It's a lot more similar than you're giving it credit for. Not to mention that once you've unlocked everything and achieved everything the game is still incredibly fun to play. I think HS achievements are an even worse Idea than OPs pseudo-arena.
Well to each their own. Achievements already exist, they are just incredibly flat, boring and unrecorded (win x number of games in x mode yada yada). I don't see how words on a screen telling you you accomplished something is a bad idea. If they are creative you might see more players playing for fun and not just grinding.

Thats what i'm starting to think, but then aimed at you and your huge amount of responses to a thread you seem to consider not worth existing.
Just stop it if you dislike his suggestion so much, not like anybody is forcing you to read and respond. If you dislike people who don't voice your opinion as much as you seem to, a forum is a terrible place to hang out.
Since Dungeon Run is an adaptation of successful Solo Arena mode of TES: Legends I think they should copy reward system too. It is cards/gold/packs depending on wins count.
However, while Bethesda and CDPR motto is 'take this free stuff for playing our game', Blizzard is traditionally greedy as hell with motto 'you're playing our game, pay or get out'.
I mean, this mode could be pretty fun for a couple of runs, but without good rewards it's pointless waste of time.
And no, cardback is not a good reward, I don't need any cardbacks/hero skins/whatever other cosmetic they'll invent. Just copy reward system from pvp arena, at least.
I like the idea and I also am a fan of PVE content, what Blizzard needs is to work on the AI and make it more intuitive, I am watching the Blizzcon stream atm and the HS Inn-vitational the teams are doing the dungeon run and it is really no challenge so far, I recall sometime back they mentioned that improving the AI was something they are working on, if they intend to do more things like this let's hope they are doing just that.
@iandakar I like your perspective :) very calm and peaceful. At the same time, if it is that way, it will become repetitive really soon, and it's a mode I'd love to see there for a longer term.
So... not even optionally ? or perhaps brawl-like , changing bosses every week and getting one pack of cards from a random expansion/classic ?
I assume that they'll coast with it for a while, then see what they can add to it to keep it in the long run.
They are probably testing to see how it's received. If we seem to like it they'll expand it. If we don't they'll drop it.
And *smack head* yeah, the brawl reward system is perfect: a pack for just attempting it or say completing the first boss. And thinking Most recent as we already have brawl giving Classic packs and it'll offer an alternative to folks who don't like/can't afford arena runs.
I'm probably showing my age here but can we REALLY not have something that's just..made to be fun? As in, "I play it to enjoy it"?
You mean, the game Hearthstone itself isn't just..made to be fun? As in, "I play it to enjoy it"?
I thought it was, but seems you think different.
My point is over on the next following lines. Mind focusing on that rather than the showy eye catch?
The point was that we should focus on making the mode itself fun rather than trying to add an incentive towards a mode people find boring which is the suggestion the OP had.

I thought that was an adaption of Hearthstones Arena?
Been more then a year since i touched that game tho, so a lot might have changed and i might have forgotten what it was really like :D
AFAIK, from modern CCGs idea of Solo Arena was implemented first in TES:L. It was in it from Beta, definitely earlier then year ago. Though I didn't play TES:L for a couple of years too.
If you forgot how it was: you pay some gold, then choose class from 3 available, then draft a deck (like in normal arena), and then fight 8 bosses in random order + 1 super boss when all lesser are completed. After each boss won you are able to draft several additional cards into your deck. And after 9 wins or after 2(or 3? don't remember) losses get reward for wins count, like in normal arena basically.
If it remains like they introduced it, noone will play it more than a few times. People will just do the card back and never play it again. Why would u play it without rewards?

Yeah, thats it. It was there when i played it for a few weeks, but i thought it looked a lot like Arena in Hearthstone so i thought it was their Arena version.
Think i got tickets to play it for free, so i played some runs. But you got free packs and stuff all the time in that game.
Well although I wouldn't say no to rewards what this mode needs is to give 10 gold per 3 wins and the ability to complete quests there. I agree that having a reward for your first 8 win of the day would probably end up grindy, even if it was a pack per week like tavern brawl you'd be "forcing" people who need the pack to do it whether they enjoy the mode or not.
On the other hand if you don't get gold per wins there you'd feel penalised for playing this game mode when playing standard or arena could help you fill your collection. And tbh I don't think that there is going to be that much more replayability over adventures once you've got the cardback and beaten all bosses. At least from what I've seen from the dungeon runs done in the Jungle Giants vs Grimestreet Grifters match today, good players won't see it as too much of a challenge which would make them more inclined to experiment (again, how often have you experimented with different ways of killing an adventure boss you've already cleared?).
Of course even with no extra replayability other than getting the cardback and seeing all the bosses you'd probably spend more time there than in any other adventure released so far. So even in the worst case scenario this expansion would bring more content than each other adventure so far, for it to be another game mode that will get the long term attention of people though, I think some rewards are needed, even if these rewards are the really bland golds per win and ability to complete quests. Then again, given the fact that this is a free mode of a free game that doesn't make you want to buy packs or utilize you so their game is better (like you would be doing if you were helping cutting down queue times) it would make sense if they didn't really want this mode to be as popular as standard or arena.
I think the biggest problem you'll run into is the crowd who will feel they're "forced" to do it in order to get packs. For many, this drive to be optimal is what fuels their gaming, and this would run the mode into the ground for them, adding the obligatory dungeon run to tavern brawl on the list of things that they don't want to do but "have" to.
They could do an event for it of course. Perhaps have it be the tavern brawl one week? They already have the heroic brawl which is basically just constructed.
I'll probably play it once just to see what it's like or if I get extremely bored. However, if they gave you a free card every time you beat it with all 9 characters, I'd definitely be playing it significantly more. Just a reward that can be as good as a legendary is enough to get me to completely rethink how I invest my time in HS.
I think people are missing that Blizzard fundamentally does not want to incentivize people grinding tons of SP. Even adventures were little more than "lets get people to try some different strats as they learn new cards, maybe that will carry over into multiplayer", basically what Brode said once. They want to push people into PvP whether they want it or not, the PvE is just a temporary diversion. Anything more than maybe a weekly reward is a non-starter.
I love the dungeon run, its great for players who cant spend a bunch of money on hearthstone, but without earning anything for playing it, I dont see myself playing alot. Maybe have a gold earning cap just like we have in other modes, but it has its own cap. Like you can only earn 100 gold, and you get 10gold for every 3 wins, and if you beat it maybe you get some dust or extra gold. And can only be awarded the extra win bonus gold 3 times in 24 hours!
There really aren't many ways to earn gold. 100g cap goes quick as well as quests. Finish them daily and still takes forever to even afford an epic let alone a legendary.

I keep getting little red notifications, that's why I keep responding.
One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Dungeons are fucking stupid right now, a reward only makes sense.
No one should get rewarded beyond that card back they're throwing at the solo-lovers for this uber RNG-based event.
Elune give me strength.
