Oh thank god I finally finished all the legendary quests. I can go back to Battlegrounds now and never touch this trash mode again. This mode needs major changes to card pools, hero powers, and treasures.
I mean, yeah. Those are coming. This is the early-access version, where each hero has one hero power and one starting treasure. They've already announced that when the mode officially launches, those options will expand:
"When the Duels officially launches on November 17, and we transition from Duels: Early Access to Duels: Season One, each class will have access to 2 Hero Powers and 3 Treasures. Additionally, Madness at the Darkmoon Faire cards will be added to the pool of eligible sets! We’ll be adding new Hero Powers and Treasures in a mid-season update early next year, and plan to reset Duels ratings at that time as well." (from https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/news/23529213)
So all of those things are coming. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the mode -- it's interesting to see these tweaked hero powers at work, and I've always thought that the incremental deckbuilding aspect of the Dungeon Run format is a good twist. It delivers the drafting element of Arena while also providing an established baseline of cards that are, if not outstanding, at least functional and somewhat cohesive (which is not guaranteed in any given Arena deck).
If you prefer Battlegrounds, by all means, hang out there. But you don't need to trash Duels to do it.
HS player base is filled with damn crybabys. If you hate mode that much, don't play it and don't ruin experience of other players, who want to play. If you hate game that much, leave the damn game.
I have to play it because of the god damn Legendary Quests. I thought I was done after the first one but then a second one immediately popped up.
There are mages, having access to Polymorph, Counterspell, and more of their anti-fun anti-play bogus. So yeah, it sucks. Besides, it's even slower gameplay than ladder, plus you get no gold for it, unless (once heroic is available) you pay for it.
The worst thing is that Blizzard chooses to spend their time on new features instead of finally fixing existing broken ones.
I'm not convinced the new game mode is for new players. Wild isn't for new players, should new players complain about how inaccessible it is? I don't care for auto battlers, that doesn't mean I spend my time lamenting and complaining about a game mode that isn't for me and is basically taking up space on the UI. I can't sit there and say, make game modes that I like playing or don't make them at all. Not every mode is for everyone, that's part of the reason they make so many, to appeal to different strokes.
There are plenty of game modes for new players, arena, battlegrounds, standard, tavern brawl, solo player content including dungeon runs. It's good they're introducing ways for long time players to utilize their large, otherwise potentially unused collections.
They could have had a separate wild and standard version, but they probably couldn't see the incentive there.

well said. as someone who has kept all cards from wild since hearthstones first expansion, it is a breath of fresh air to see blizzard showing a little love to the long time player base. blizzard has given a lot for new players as you stated, wild has literally seen no love aside from some inclusions in arena (which doesnt require you to have the cards in your collection) and a few brawls. Well i for one am excited to have this new mode, and to be perfectly honest the reveal was like a gift in my own instance because other then doing quests, i have no incentive to que ladder or casual so i can play against the latest net decks. i have played more of the dungeon runs from saviors of uldum and rise of shadows then i have any other mode in the game for the last 4 months. Well done Blizzard and Thank you.
The whining will never stop. If they made Duels with random pre set starting decks, I can bet you that there would have been posts saying Blizzard already ruined Duels by giving me random decks, instead of allowing me to create my own.
I’m confused as to why battlegrounds have been around for 1 year but we haven’t received a single reward for ranking etc, yet duels comes along and heroic promises rich rewards! I bet the rewards will be significant to make people buy wild decks

Duels is trash though we wanted a new gamemode and they just gave us wild 2.0...
It's not trash, and it's not Wild 2.0. Have you played the mode at all? The impact of the Wild sets available for deckbuilding is minimal. I've built a few different decks for Duels now, and in each of them (all different classes), I used maybe 2 or 3 Wild cards, and the decks were perfectly functional. Most of the oomph comes from your drafted buckets and your treasures. Note that I've been playing since launch, and have maintained a mostly-complete Wild collection. The cards just aren't that compelling in Duels. Not enough to make your entire 15-card starter deck out of them, at any rate. Is Loatheb a neat card? Sure. But he's not game-defining. Despite having him in my collection, I haven't included him, and I haven't missed him.
It all kind of comes down to a "speak for yourself" kind of thing. I loved Dungeon Run when it came out, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to explore that gameplay against other players. So for me, I wanted a new game mode, and they gave me one of the things I've been subconsciously wanting for years now. Battlegrounds didn't really excite me -- it's not gameplay that I enjoy. It's not trash, though -- obviously plenty of people like it and find it fun and compelling, even though I'm not one of those people. Blizzard promised us a new game mode, and they gave us a new game mode. As a bonus, it's one that I'm having a lot of fun with. If you don't like it, don't play it. Pretty simple.
I’m confused as to why battlegrounds have been around for 1 year but we haven’t received a single reward for ranking etc, yet duels comes along and heroic promises rich rewards! I bet the rewards will be significant to make people buy wild decks
Probably because Battlegrounds doesn't require any investment. You don't collect any cards for it, and you don't have to buy tickets for it. Fittingly, there are no rewards for it. What would the rewards even be?
At the end of the day, Blizzard is a business. Battlegrounds drive engagement, but not purchases. If you want to convert Battlegrounds to a ticketed system like Arena or Heroic Duels, then sure, rewards would make sense at that point. But I suspect you'd have a lot of people (possibly even including yourself) that wouldn't want to have to pay to play Battlegrounds.

No I get it re business etc. it’s just weird that even though a multiplayer mode was so successful, they don’t invest more in it but they introduce another 1:1 mode. I wouldn’t mind having a heroic battleground, why do it with duels, that’s my point
don't you find battlegrounds a bit repetitive? at least with Duels you get new treasures each time. I found one that was your hero has 3 attack on your turn which is pretty good!

This is fucking true. We all know the crying would of been the opposite that they got crappie pre build decks . And there is NO ONE who can tell me other wise.
this game mode is more boring than BG, so relax, it will only be played by streamers
Speak for yourself, BG is a half baked load of rubbish.
yeah right - I just checked twitch out of curiosity. BG streams - thousands of viewers. Duel streams - low hundreds. Maybe it’s a coincidence but streamers who play duels had their audience shrink within days ( me being one of the ones who skip whenever I see duels being streamed / on YouTube)
Can't really compare Duels with BGs right now. BGs are reasonably fleshed out. The fact that it says 'Beta' is basically a formality at this point. Duels however truly are 'early access' with many of it's primary features locked out.
Right now, especially when it comes to streamers, we're watching the same 10 classes with the same hero powers and same starting treasures. There's 0 variance here. In short, it's quite easy to get burned out or lose viewers due to repetitiveness. Once these key features go live, there will be dozens (maybe even hundreds) of class, hero power, treasure combinations that will renew a lot of the interest for the mode.
I'm not going to go so far as to say that Duels will become more popular than BGs once these features go live. It's possible but we just don't know yet. For Duels though, I believe it's an uphill battle but the best we can do is speculate.
BGs has been proven to be popular among players and streamers. Many high profile streamers, like Kripparian, have played BGs exclusively since it's debut and still have not burned out on it, with thousands of Twitch viewers still watch his stream daily. So, it's safe to say that BGs are not going anywhere and will remain popular.
Duels on the other hand I feel will ebb and flow with each new expansion (and the new mini, halfway expansions). When new cards are introduced, I believe the popularity of Duels will temporarily exceed that of BGs for a few weeks. Once the elation for the new cards pass, I feel many players will revert back to their preferred game mode. That is to say, many will return to BGs, some will go back to playing ranked and others will continue to play Duels.
Ultimately though, I suspect that the long-term success of Duels boils down to how much development support it receives overall. BGs for instance has received amazing support with frequent updates, increased content, balance changes etc. There's been dozens of new heroes and cards introduced. The implementation of brand-new strategies by introducing tribal tags that weren't previously present, restricting tribal tags at the start of a match, thereby allowing you to plan accordingly etc. BGs have evolved exponentially since it's inception and has dramatically improved as a viable game mode. If Duels can receive similar treatment, then I suspect that it will be close in popularity to BGs. But, we'll see.

I've been playing super casually, I even took a month off, and I made about 2500 dust over the course of Scholo.
If you actually actively played you should have enough dust for ~3 legendaries per set if you really want them.
And Wild isn't for new players my guy.

Release the Kraken!
Jesus warrior is completely useless. Outclassed so hard and with a useless hero power.
