Long story short, I am not actually a new player, but instead quit the game years ago (stopped playing shortly after GnG came out) and came back to check out Classic. I've decided to start on a fresh account to fully experience the game once again (I hadn't progressed very far back then) with the aim of playing Classic asap. And here's where the problem lies: Classic is locked behind the wild format. The unlock condition is quite harsh, requiring you to grind a hero to level 20 and then explore the Tavern Brawls to get a Wild card. It may not seem like much to experienced players, but is just enough to prevent actual noobs from discovering the mode for a while. Playing against weak opponents with barely any non-basic cards (such as myself) is what I was especially looking forward to when I heard about Classic. No longer needing to keep up with all sorts of crazy cards from new expansions sounds appealing, right? As of now, even rank 25 is probably going to have strong and potentially meta decks even after all the veterans move closer to Legend. As a result, the mode is going to 'die' much faster as the meta is not really diverse in there.
And finally here's my idea: Classic should either be unlocked from the start or have an easier unlock condition such as unlocking all heroes. As a result, more inexperienced players are going to try out the mode sooner resulting in a healthier rank-to-deck-strength ratio. What do you think?
No. It's good that some modes require an entry fee of some sort, Blizzard needs to make money. I agree that Blizzard might be greedy from time to time but they've been very generous with stuff like no duplicates at all, the new new reward track and allowing to purchease entire mini sets for 2k gold. Also there aren't really a lot of expensive cards you need. If you've been playing for like a year you have most classic cards, at least the good ones. And from there most HoF cards are commons and rares. The only legendary I would say it's essential for the format, out of the 3 HoF ones is Leroy, from there quite some decks benefit from Ragnaros and a coupe from Sylvanas but I'd say Leroy isfor sure necessary if you really want to play this mode. So even if you don't have HoF cards it's honestly just an small investment on a meta that's not gonna change, or at least is gonna have very small changes (maybe, just maybe a 1-2 cards refinement on a couple decks).

lol
The problem lies in not just reaching level 20, but the fact that the current unlock system is far from being clear (which is not fine if new players are to try Classic as well). Not to mention there is barely any explanation about Wild and Classic inside the game which further discourages new players from trying the mode out (or from knowing what it is even). This in turn leads to shorter lifetime of Classic as I explained in the post
No. It's good that some modes require an entry fee of some sort...
I feel like my point is being misunderstood. The only entry fee to Classic as of now is measured in time, because (afaik) you can't even craft Wild cards until you have at least one of them in collection. I agree that Classic set is relatively inexpensive to unlock as card rotation is not present. However, this is exactly what is going to lead to a stale meta even at weaker ranks. And stale meta is dead meta unless there are newer players to spice it up with fresh ideas (or budget decks)
As a player since Naxxramas.. I’m struggling to see the long term appeal of classic mode since the top meta decks have long been established, and are very evidently reigning the current release of classic mode..
If Wild mode of all things is succumbed to the same decks despite a HUGE amount of variety, I can’t see how classic mode could feel even remotely fresh over a period of time. It almost feels like it’s better off as a 6month mode or something that would rotate rather than a permanent installation.

Just buy a pack of Saviors of Uldum. It will rotate to Wild next week and that will be your “in”.
Aldo, you could just buy one pack of Wild. It’s only 100g.

Well if staleness is the problem then Classic format wil forever be stale. The meta is figured out, it has been figured out for 7 years now. There won't be a deck that suddenly pops-up as a brand new refreshing archetype. As I said, the only thing that can happen is that the existing archetypes might be VERY sightly refined, 1 or 2 cards out and 1 or 2 cards in that may be slightly more efficient but nothing more. You can try to innovate but at the end of the day the settled decks of the meta will just stomp you cause they're the meta for a reason, and as I said, this meta was figured out 7 years ago. There's a reason you see the same decks over and over when you play ladder and not some innovative home-brews.
Also, getting classes to level 20 is nowhere near as dramatic as you make it look, yes it takes some time but I don't think it takes more than a week.
It is, but only at low ranks, I am not talking about the whole playerbase here. Every year some new overpowered decks emerge in Standard and dominate the Legend rank. However, at low ranks any epic or legendary you own can mean the difference between winning or losing which is what makes it fun. Obviously, by the time players reach Legend they should have a stable deck. This is the sort of system I was looking forward to in Classic, but the 'rank 25' point is being skipped as of now.

I honestly think this is less true now, With the duplicate protection then it's fairly easy to get all commons and rares which means you pretty much have your dust available mainly for Epics and Legendaries, and I would say most decks don't require a lot of legendaries to be fully optimized so that means that nowadays it's a lot easier to have a good deck and I mean literally that, just ONE good meta deck that you can use to climb and I've seen a lot of streamers doing F2P climbs and they start with pretty much optimized decks from bronze and almost every single opponent has a perfect netdeck.
