so i was checking out the hsreplay stats to see how my bae tess is doing since her buff when i noticed somthing staggering
A. F. Kay is in 4th place
frigging HOW
her hero power is a once per game effect, and her buddy has a crappy once per turn effect and there are some stupid powerful heroes below her! does she have some sorta pre-nerf wagtoggle scenario going on here?
She isn’t bad the buddy is a tavern 2 and it gives +1 +2 to all minions on tavern 3 is especially good with mechs and divine shield minions and general you can also combine it with gemspliller which is also a tavern 3 and grease boot for increased scaling it also can lead to an endgame holy mecherial build especially if you scale a replicating menace triple it then magnetic it to the mecherial it’s also an incredible golden buddy as +2 +4 is basically a Golden Lightfang for your tavern 3 minions which you get very early on due to it being a tavern 2
Also, keep in mind that 4th best does NOT necessarily mean lots of first place finishes. I suspect she's a very consistent 3rd place hero who doesnt often hit above that point (just guesses though i barely play anymore)
Bronze warden, mech divine shield , windfury ele and gensplitter and also the 2/4 dragon which gains stats when minions lose divine shield. Get grease bot on 4. Aggem 5.
ok yeah, thats starting to sound like a toned down version of what was going on with wagtoggle. her 1st place is pretty low but 2nd and 3rd is really high
AFK hardly ever gets first place even though it has an overall good average placement. It's part of the group of heroes I hate most in Battlegrounds. Heroes that are really good in the early to mid game and fall off as soon as they encounter even a semi-real build. They are so stupid because they force out other players who have a chance to get to the late game with something that is complete shit and won't even win.
C'Thun is the worst offender by far, but the top 4 heroes on HSReplay (top 50% MMR) are those types of heroes right now. I mean just look at the placement curves for them. It's degenerate.
She requires very specific lobbies, with mechs and quilboars are the mere must, with dragons highly recommended. Cyclone is fine, but dragons are generally better, especially since those lobbies are Pyrospawn's wet dream. Not an easy hero to first with, very easy to top 2-3 though with those 3 tribes.
I wouldn't waste time on grease bot, unless you need a filler or manage to get a pair into a triple. Much like Kali, you need multiples. Aggem isn't really needed, I'm barely out of tt3 before it's top5.
In a beast lobby you want a Brute, which you can Necrolyte its stats onto Hydra, and it's a 3, so it'd be e.g. a 7/11 even after you shift 16 gems from it. On nonbeast if I get a brute, I go to 5 earlier to triple into Foe Reaper, with the other options being mainly Macareal.
C'thun being a viable hero is a sad joke, the buddy is plain awful, just compare it to Mukla's, who gets his buddy top of turn 5, and is generally better than AFK, even in the same lobbies.
I had a lobby with mechs and dragons where AFK was an option. I decided to see how it went. Got Bronze Warden and refresh mech thing. Easy top 4 as I just pushed out other players that were slower to get something going. Started to lose steam once people started having real builds. Managed to squeak out a second place by getting a ghost and having the top 2 play each other.
Did this while basically making no decisions other than get the divine shield thing. Pretty unsatisfying and knowing I had zero chance of winning at the end felt horrible. I'm sure the players who took way more damage than they wanted in the midgame hated me.

Maybe stop thinking about "winning" in Battlegrounds as getting first place. You win if you place top 4, and a build that consistently guarantees you top 4 is not "complete shit" but a strong build.

No, a win is a win. Second through fourth is just a consolation prize so people don't get fed up an leave the game mode. And no those builds are not strong. They cannot compete with an actual build. I saw it myself playing AFK as I mentioned in my other post on here.
If you want to gain MMR that's fine, but that's not winning. Any fool with enough experience in Battlegrounds can put together something that just gets fourth place and gains them MMR. And it turns out there are lots of heroes that facilitate that with degenerate hero powers and buddies.
If your initial setup of tier 3 minions is strong you use that to transition into a real comp. I definitely have won enough of the time with AFK that I wouldn't put her in the tier of heroes that gets top 4 but never gets first place. Having said that, no I don't think she is a strong hero either. You need very specific tribes to be available before even considering her as an option, and you can get bad luck and not get the good minions even in that case.

Ever since auto chess came out, making top 4 was considered victory, but whatever floats your boat.
I want to say 3 out of my last 4 runs with AFK were first places, in the 9k-10k range. While I occasionally end the game with more than one of my tier 3 minions, usually I don't and always get to tier 6 quickly.
I will say, I think you never pick AFK if Demons are available, otherwise you end up just losing to big wrath weavers at a time when you are supposed to be winning matches.
I got the brb achievement recently. Mechs, Elementals, and Dragons were in and I went for it with a divine shield build. Still don't agree she's a first place hero, but occasionally it happens and I'm glad I never have to try for that achievement again lol.

I'm guessing you're looking at HSReplay stats with no rating filter. That could explain anything.

She (her buddy) buffs. Thats key nowadays.
If you get a bounch of good tier 3 divine shields like mechs or windfury ele, she'll be a almost guranteed 4th place.

Angelina Frederica Kay is my favourite hero, but she's definitely not Tier One.
C'Thun is OP.
What's your rank?
AFK has been my most winning hero after buddies was introduced, usually with quilboars staying at tier three.
Ever since auto chess came out, making top 4 was considered victory, but whatever floats your boat.
Like I said it seems like a way to keep people from feeling completely fucked over and get them to keep coming back. And it seems to work quite well.
