Buddies are great and basically feels like a whole new game. However they need to fix the following:
Add armor again.
Revert tier-5 leveling cost.
Feels really bad being stuck at tavern 4 and getting crushed by scaled buddies.
I don't think buddies are all that great but I agree with you on everything else. However, if those changes are what will make buddies great then I am all for it.
The tier 5 thing is what really gets me. It seems like going to tier 5 almost always means you will take damage that turn. Which really sucks when you already had to wait to get there anyway. I still don't get this change. I guess it was meant to slow things down, but it just makes good heroes better and bad heroes worse.
Some buddies are so stupid strong you have to get truly unlucky with your shop not to get into top 4 with them (eg. curator). Others are also strong but rely on one clutch minion (voljin with chromawing and a couple of others with tarecgosa). Most of battlecry ones are gimped if they're not played with Brann on board. And few of them are a joke that work better if they're just stolen and used by other heroes (togwaggle).
Generally they just streamlined the matches since you only need to get 6 minions
Hopefully there will be some changes soon. I'm getting pretty tired of the pacing of some of these games and the amount of damage that can be dished out while still in the midgame.
I think they have to be careful though as there are a couple heroes I think are OP if the games go longer. Kragg in particular. I think I have figured out how to play Kragg and if all goes well you can get to 6 and have a 20 gold turn while folks are still on 4. Problem is taking so much damage that by the time I get there I'm almost dead. I think Aranna is also a bit OP with longer games. Those free refreshes make getting a build much easier.
I do wonder what the general consensus on buddies is. Seems like its a win more/lose more type of thing. If you can get your buddy meter going and power spike then you just do better, but if you don't you just do way worse. I don't really consider this fun as there is no comeback mechanic. I'm curious what the design philosophy on this was.

Remember the good old days when you could actually get to tier 6 and not get pounded by mid range? Those were good times.
Remember when there was actually good stuff on tier 6 too.
There's still good stuff on tier 6, you just die to OP midrange buddies before you can use said good stuff.
Yea Amalgadon is pretty good. Everything else is optional.
