I think the new buddy system is ok. I am having a bit of difficulty adapting to the new style, but I think that just always happens with a big update. It does need quite a bit of refinement though as I feel like the power level of buddy's are currently way off. It also adds another parameter when it comes to balancing. This is a little frustrating as I thought they finally had it well balanced. I admit it was getting a bit stale though.
Honestly, my biggest issue is with changing the cost of getting to tavern tier 5. I've been having so much trouble figuring out when to go to 5 and it just felt like such an unnecessary change. Especially when going to tavern tier 6 is now cheaper than going to 5. To me this is dumb, but I'd like to hear what other people think about it.
I am in favour of the changes (and usually any changes) to BGs - it is a mode that needs consatnt content refreshes IMO, or it gets stale.
If anything I feel like the lack of new minions with this new update is the problem - I have all the tribes as it stands worked out and have played every possible interpretation of them several times over.
Some of the buddies are OP - they'll be balanced - it is what it is. But I want more minions in the pool that I haven't seen or played with with new and interesting effects...Most of the buddies just double up on stuff we've already seen - I don't find them as exciting as I thought they might be.
Buddy system just seems weird to me; don't really want to try it. I would've liked something like a card refresh or even some sort class/alliance system to further things in a seasonal/progession sort of thing.
The game needed weirdness, badly, it was getting really stale with few options.
Now I will say I think the amount of heroes in the upper tier went way down, almost everyone with a middling buddy is at a severe disadvantage.
But I like the goofy, bringing back bomb build as a serious viable option again with mech girls' buddy, yogg, honestly there's a lot of nonsense now, and I like it.
Those buddies seem like a win-more feature. Since you don't progress anything by taking (more) damage, they don't really help you come back into the game. This for me is a terrible oversight and shows how incompetent the devs are.
They simply provide new stuff for the sake of it, not to actually balance things (especially since the armor system was disabled for now). I'm glad some of you enjoy it, but it's too bad the true purpose is to give us a bone (with new stuff) and not solve the existing issues.
The game needed something new after around half a year and they come up with something very unexpected that significantly changes every hero in the game. You may call it "weirding up" I call it being up front with your player base. While I'm not necessarily agreeing with every design, I really think we've gotten some useless heroes back in the game with new synergies. Those who think it's all the same or win more haven't checked the possibilities these buddies add to the game. I've never had such a ridiculous run with Curator or Blackthorn as yesterday despite having some stale and weak hero powers
Buddy system is horrific and it really shows how incompetent Blizzard has become. Its extremely imbalanced and there is no way they tested this properly. And there is fundamental problems with the system itself and its just a big snowbally shitshow. 4000 hours of BG and this is the moment i uninstall.

Lol you mean just like every time they introduce a new tribe. Haven't you gotten used to how these thing roll out yet?
I don't even think the heroes are that terribly balanced opposed to before. Guff is still useless but all the other bad heroes sees play for now while the top heroes have climbed back a tiny bit. Tarecgosa certainly got some extra scale, maybe too much. Mechs seem to be the "losing team" while I see more broken dragon runs than usual. I'm not saying "job's done" but for now I'm impressed with the volume of this change. But if you hadn't gotten tired of old Bgs, the change could certainly feel too big. First run was weird for me too.

Why did they weird up Battlegrounds with this buddy system?
It is confusing and adds needless complexity and weirdness to the mode that was pretty solid before.
I'm not sure I want to continue playing this gamemode?
Then don't. For us who are playing it for fun this is really refreshing, although OP AF at some points and very underwhelming on others.

expect broken characters to begin with, but i have faith that they will slowly balance everything. it's a huge change, so be patient

I think they're fun
First thought I got after few games is Tarecgosa will soon go to tier 4 or will get gutted entirely.
Her problematic design was always showing but with some buddies she's turning into a mindless must pick.
Piloted Shredder, Knife Juggler, Mad Scientist, Dr. Boom
Need to be removed from this game

I think BG is the most fun it’s been in a long time, while conversely being the most imbalanced it’s been in ages.

I wasn't a huge fan at first, but its grown on me.
