Murlocs are hard to run in Battlegrounds in the early game since your good buffs don't start coming up until Tier 3. If I am playing murlocs I usually Tavern up on turns 2 and 3. I will surely lose the battle on turn 3 but it is early enough that damage won't be too big. This way you can start looking for good murlocs and buffs on turn 4 on.
Last 3 runs with new Fungalmancer Flurgl i got either 7th or 8th. It feels like if you don't hit a brann you're just good as dead.
Anybody had a good run with it? What's your strategy?
I think that has always been the case with murlocs in general and specifically flurgl. Brann is necessary to win unless you can hit 6 toxfins and have an amalgam or two with divine shield/poison.
I thought it'd be much stronger, but it turns out you don't really want to be buying anything with him but murlocs anyway, and you get caught in trap between rolling for bran or just cycling murlocs with the hero power. You still really need brann, and even then you can get outpaced. It feels slow, which it is. Kinda shows how power-creep has had a big effect on battlegrounds too lately.
I'd like to see a new 6 drop murloc in the game again - amalgaddon doesn't count. Probably not Holy Makerel as that was rather OP, but something...

I feel that the change to Flurgl is mainly there to shore up the early game - before, he was also really overreliant on getting tidehunters to flog, which isn't as bad now. Seeing no/few murlocs early as him isn't anywhere near as bad now.
I'm just wondering whether the correct tactic isnt getting 2 triples from tidehunter and get 2 5 drops. Kinda like some other heroes do. And then if you hit brann go for murlocs. Otherwise just pick whatever other 5 drop is offered and build your board from there. Just not trying to force murlocs aka get every murloc possible.
Told ya, it's the power-creep - because you remember lucking a good brann-less run in the past with him you think, "hey well if I don't even need murlocs now to get more murlocs he must be good...right?"
Wrong. He's too slow now, that was different era of BG. You get your ass pounded before you even get off the ground, and if you do get off the ground get outpaced anyway, so the pay off isn't there.
Intrestingly I found buffed malygos in a similar place - Like, he was sometimes, if not often, a decent hero...now with his hero power doubled he's good right? Wrong. Unless you luck into a tripple forget it, and that isn't likely to happen, even with two shots every turn.
I tried this newly upgraded hero. Got 3rd place rather easily as most of my units had poisonous.
But I have a MAJOR GRIPE.
I stayed on Tier 4. When I died, I had played maybe 50 murlocs. And I tripled 5 times. (Whiffed on Brann every time, only got 1 Burgwagle).
Complaint: I literally saw ZERO Primalfin Lookouts discover a murloc guys the entire game. NONE. I stayed on Tier 4 for 8-9 turns.
HOW CAN YOU STAY ON TIER 4 AND MAYBE THROW AWAY 30 or 40 MINIONS AND --- NEVER --- SEE NOT EVEN ONE PRIMALFIN. No one else was Murlocs, there was no one "collecting them".
This reminded me of games with Galakrond where I would just need a Nadina to complete a decent dragons board and I whiff maybe 15 times with the Galakrond hero power on a Tier 5 unit combined with Triple Discovers and Darkmoon Tavern "Tier 6" discovers.
I believe sometimes some minions aren't in the game due to a Battlegrounds bug or something.
Either that or Battlegrounds gives each player a "luck factor" at the start of the game that indicates how often high winrate units appear in the Tavern.
Battlegrounds can be so stupid at times. But realistically, I could not have finished higher than 3rd no matter what units I got because mechs and quillboars can have divine shields and my board got killed by a 35/35 Cave Hydra that was going to be followed by 5 divine shield units averaging 45/45. I would have needed triple Brann to stand a chance of getting my Murlocs health high enough to even make it interesting.
