I seem to be decent with most heroes, but Omu... nope. If you're lucky enough to get a token on Turn 1, you get a strong turn then that still won't beat a top end hero or a 2/3 most of the time. Yay. You upgrade a turn earlier, 2/4/6/8 instead or 2/5/7, but in exchange you're a minion down, thus losing multiple rounds there - and what you do have is chaff. You have one turn within the first... six or so where you're actually able to reroll. You can't get any kind of build going, you're picking mediocre T2s because there's no T3s or they're just abysmal. By Turn 8 you're facing down people who have tripled and have significantly better boards with synergy. And you're a hit away from death, particularly now.
How do people succeed with Omu? What am I doing wrong?
Well, you have to try to build your deck arround the spell damage hp. if you are lucky and get the spell damage treasure too you will have devastating swipes. Not the best hero, but not the worse. You will lose vs Mozaki always, as all other heroes. Long live to duels and fuk battlegrounds.

You're in a battlegrounds thread..
You don't say. All threads are battlegrounds thread...
Omu is kind of reliant on hitting triples, if you hit triples and get good minions like Brann, Nomi, Lightfang early on then you can easily win otherwise Omu falls off quickly late game. Still one of the best heroes and my favourite right now.
Having a token turn 1 just like Millhouse is what save you the early game. If you are losing too much fight you can stay one turn at tavern 3/4 in order to pick the strongest minion available even if it means having no direction yet. Once you get to tavern 5 you will be able to choose what kind of build you want and then stabilize from that
She is still top 10 I would say, but there are definitely better choice in the new meta now
Tough to tell without seeing you play it obviously but from the description, it sounds like you're sticking too closely to the "you get to level up a turn early" plan. That's not always the correct play. The beautiful thing with Omu is the flexibility. If your board isn't good enough to justify being a minion down then don't level up a turn early. Level up on curve and utilize the extra mana to reroll and get higher quality minions or to be a minion up.

What you describe here just sounds like rolling badly and then exacerbating the problem by making economic plays instead of tempo plays. Every hero is bad if you don't roll good minions and investing your money into leveling up isn't going to fix that. I've not played a ton of this patch but he certainly seems worse now than he was before. The last meta was about getting a triple and discovering a tier 5 unit as early as possible. Omu excels at that and so he was very powerful in that meta. I've not really figured out what this meta is about yet but it definitely seems tempo oriented. There's almost always a place for econ heroes in any meta, even tempo ones. You just have to learn to balance the approaches instead of going all in on economy.
Most times when it costs 1 less gold to level than you have, you level and buy a minion. You can level quickly with noticeably less of a hit to do so than most Heros. It's more about getting from level 3 to 6 quicker than the field than the early game. Just be careful not to go too fast vs your stats.
The latest patch moves some Heros up and down in the chart. Omu should remain near the top.

I tried that. I then basically am buying notably less minions and getting smacked around. Turn 1, buy one. Turn two, level, reroll twice for the heck of it. Turn three, buy two, probably a TT2 and a TT3. Turn four, level, buy one, get smacked hard. Turn 5, buy 2, Turn 6, buy one, level, get smacked hard. Turn seven try to buy two highish tier minions, get walloped by people who've been getting triples, because you can't get triples easily when you're not rerolling. Probably dead shortly after that. And until this point the HP doesn't actually get you better minions, because either you're levelling and buying a previous tier minion, or you're very susecptible to the whims of RNG on getting any current tier, as you're barely rerolling. If you spend an extra turn trying to stabilize, you lose all the tempo advantage of levelling faster.

You get free gold for your hero and level a bunch and buy good cards when you see them
I was terrible with Omu at first. Watch Kripp for help with breakpoints. I rarely bottom 4 with him.

Isn't Omu she?
Hmm, thanks. Apologies for being slow replying, been surprisingly busy the last few days considering a national lockdown is happening!
So I should basically be playing her as a very slightly better Vashj? Two free rolls on a tier up? Probably still worth picking when offered, I guess.
