It seems that with the last few patches the mode just moved to a Vegas style slot machine. You either get a T5 good minion on 8-9 or try to survive into Top 4 with praying the RNG gods spare you from the highroller.
And it's not a skill mode now, you either get the lucky Genie/ Mama/ Nomi and win or you got to go fast T5 and pray for DS + Poisonous combo to fight equally the luckier ones.
Pirates and Demons are not viable at a large margin, since any end game combo involves several huge posion minions or 300+ Hp Garr and 80+ dmg wf/megawf elemental that just obliterate this 2 tribes viable strategies. The 4/4 and 4/3 buffs are not viable at all - 4/1 divine shield wf or 4/4 non ds for T3.
I still play the game, but even at 10k+ which is top 1000 EU the mode feels stall and some heroes are so busted with the speeding it's hilarious. A lucky Omo is T6 with Genie + Rag at 10g and no matter your skill if you face him this turn you get 15-25 dmg and loose any Top 4 hopes if not lucky to build poison/ds combo in the next 2-3 turns before dying.
and thats exactly why i didnt play that stupid mode for 3-4 months now, all it accomplishes is annoyance (patch downloads all over again and again) and a huge waste of time. also ladder of all things is less aggrevating and rng-ey and way faster to gain pitiful amounts of gold
i saw where it would go in the future and obviously it didnt get better in all this time, pfft. what a waste of resources
Battlegrounds is making the best of the alternatives you have available. It's brillant.
RNG evens out.
I made legend a couple of times and was Rank 5 every month for over a year.
I tried Battlegrounds with no intention of doing anything except seeing what it was. After experiencing the strategic decisions, I lost interest in standard very quickly and only play if someone chats me up for a 80 gold quest out of being a bud (I don't need the gold).
Battlegrounds doesn't appeal to everyone, but since HSReplay tracks 3 million games a week and games have 8 players = 24 million tracked player games compared to 10 million for standard HS x 2 players = 22 million player games tracked -- it does have people who like it and it is a rather large in number.
Exactly my sentiments. Its completely bullshit. Skill does NOT factor in whether you win or lose. Its all RNG.
The only hero that requires skill is Daryl. The rest are autopilot. The strategy is just the same. Triple at tavern 4 to discover the broken elementals.
Great it's another Battlegrounds hate, it's all rng thread... .But how can some players consistently win more games than others if the mode requires no skill? I don't get why rng should exclude skill, it's actually quite the opposite here. Rng forces you to adapt to the given situation which is where true skill shines through. It's easy to plan ahead, it's hard to plan while executing it.
Complaining about RNG in BG doesn't mean that there is ZERO skill in it. Of course the better you play the more games you will win. But in some game, it doesn't matter how good you are you will get top 8 due to everybody being luckier than you. And having to sit 15mn losing to every highroller feels really bad.
Also, Djinn on tier 5 is REALLY DUMB. Instead of highrolling Lil'Rag with triple, now you get Djinn that will give you Lil'Rag or Amalgedon. Great idea indeed.
Not even talking about Lich King that can reborn him + Baron Rivendare so you get 2 elementals per turn.
It's not comparable to Standard. It's not all RNG though it sits at a different point on the scale between luck and skill than standard. Everyone has their own points on that scale they like best. Heros impact strategy fairly significantly. It is an entirely different system of probability events that can be navigated strategically to your advantage over others over the long run; much like poker. It is okay not to finish first every game and it is okay to finish last occasionally. Sometimes games vs high rollers you just have to just do your best to reduce your points lost or get to 4th.
But I find it far less aggravating than ranked.
That said, I fully agree that it's currently pretty broken and has slipped more towards luck with Djinn at 5. But you can strategically better your odds for this meta too.
At high ranks, it does feel a bit luck driven. I am currently 10k (peaked 12k before reset). High rank players seldom make mistakes, so the impact of luck is more significant. I definitely could feel a strong impact of skills below 9k. If you are complaining about luck at 10k+, you should probably take a break. The more you climb, the more you will feel the weight of luck.
Hearthstone is less salty if you don't try that hard.
If all 8 players are using the tracker that counts 1 game as 8 different tracked games to the HSreplay gamelogs, so muliplying that 3 million times 8 automatically is a bit mathematically presumptuous. Im not disagreeing with your point. Just with your math.
Of course it’s like a slot machine otherwise people wouldn’t play it. I find myself frustrated so many times and I say to hell with it but then I’m back for one more game, for better luck.
their business model is built around the gambling mentality, otherwise it would be like chess - pure strategy - and people wouldn’t play.
Turn 10. My opponent (Reno) has 2x Lil Rag, 1x golden Djinni, 1x Nomi, 1x Amalgadon (approx 40/40 with divine shield and poisonous) and 1x Garr (approx 80 health), and one spot open to buy / sell elementals and to make sure his Djinni actually summons both its minions.
At that stage of the game, me and most other players are mostly on tavern tier 4-5, and have teams consisting of mostly t3-t5 minions. But this guy evidently highrolled getting Djinni early, goldened it with his hero power and then got those Rags / Amalgadon / Garr off of it.
Ok so let’s put do u get to pick ur hero or all them random when u get minion it’s literally a dice roll or slot machine what ever you to use . Attacking is is it random or or can u point to what u what where to attack seems 1000% RnG to me
Rng is different to a slot machine - the latter is programmed to ensure you win 1 time and lose 9 it’s not 50/50. What the OP is saying is that many of the results may not be as random / strategy based as people may think.
if everyone was getting to pick the same minions each turn (identical tavern) then rng would only be limited to who goes first and deathrattles, but it’s not!

I'm in the same boat, once I really looked to see how deep the rabbit hole was it had me. I haven't played ranked much since.
Less aggravation I find as well. No ropers being dicks just for the sake of being dicks.
Exactly my sentiments. Its completely bullshit. Skill does NOT factor in whether you win or lose. Its all RNG.

Since when does bgz felt anything different than a slot?

I would say that BGs are equally if not more influenced by RNG than regular HS.
Randomly given choice of hero, randomly given choice of minions in the tavern, randomly attack opposing minions.
That's not to say there is no skill involved, there are strategies and game plans based on what you get, but it still feels like a card game to me.
You play with the hand you are dealt.

It was slot machine when they started bgs and it still is 🤔 that is any thing else you are delusional

Just completely disgusting.
Less Aggravation that’s a good one I guess u like no skill games
If Battlegrounds is all RNG why do the ones that complain always suck at Battlegrounds?
It's all RNG right?
Where are the "OMG Battlegrounds is too EZ it's all RNG, way too easy!" people?
Ok so let’s put do u get to pick ur hero or all them random when u get minion it’s literally a dice roll or slot machine what ever you to use . Attacking is is it random or or can u point to what u what where to attack seems 1000% RnG to me
Guess again. I can enjoy games anywhere on the spectrum from bingo to chess.
Why do so many people see only in black or white?
