You're happy that they are taking away quality of life features just to sell them back to you? And you don't mind that they're going to do it EVERY expansion cycle?
The bottom line, and I am going to be so brash as to say there's no valid counter argument to this, is it is completely optional. No one is making you pay for it, and you can certainly still play battlegrounds without it.
People always bitch and moan about battle passes costing money or this and that, hearthstone or any game.
Don't. Buy. It. Then.
You can still play it fine, but will of course have less than the players that financially support it.
Edit: Also, where the hell does all of this entitlement come from? They gave us battlegrounds completely for free, that thousands enjoy, for free. FAR more enjoyment than this f2p players provide to the world. Be happy you're allowed to play it for free anyways, they could EASILY put a paywall on even being able to play it, and people still would.
No one is excited to pay for something that they could get for free before, but I think some people are looking at this all wrong. Battlegrounds has basically been a free trial so far to let people see what they would eventually have to pay for. It's not like the mode was always meant to be free and then they got greedy. The free trial is now over and it is never exciting when that happens, but we knew it was coming.
The question really is, is this cost fair? I think if it receives regular updates like it has recently then it might be fair price. 2500 gold is pretty easy to get by just doing daily quests, but I would prefer if there was a reasonable way to pay for it by doing battlegrounds instead of forcing you to play another mode or paying money. I pay for the expansions and play ranked myself a fair amount, so this really doesn't change much for me, but for players who mostly play Hearthstone for Battlegrounds now I think there should be a reasonable way for them to do F2P without playing other modes.
for players that sending me PM stop you self... i have 13480 gold rdy for next xpack its not pay to win to pay gold or real moeny you just have to play both modes... you can even farm gold in arena if you decent at the game

There is a reasonable way for them to play BG's for free without playing other modes, in that they can just play it. They get less heroes to choose from, and they need to be okay with that. If they're not okay with it, buy the pass.
Trust me I agree with you for the most part, but being able to play for free at the drawback of only being able to pick from 2 champions is completely fair.
I like this because it kind of prevents people to have 999 smurf accounts, which is super annoying to me. At the moment Top 200 BG is full with no-lifers with 5 smurf accounts. This is gonna change now
because it says "for the duration of the.. [expansion] ..cycle." By which they could mean either while the cards are in standard or while the xpac is the most current. Without official comment i would expect the latter.

I'm obviously talking about being able to play and have all the same advantages as someone who pays. In ranked mode you can play a reasonable amount and get the same advantages that people who paid money get, that is not true for Battlegrounds.
Each expansion lasts for a 2 year cycle. I posted a picture in earlier post specifying the details.
I don't think that's what they meant with 'Ashes of Outlands expansion cycle' though. I rather think they mean these 4 months until the next expansion hits. If it really is 2 years, then 2500 gold is a bargain, but they probably meant just 4 months. Battlegrounds is still new and a lot of updates will come for it. It's very unlikely they're making a battle pass that lasts and stays for 2 years when no one really knows what the future of Battlegrounds will hold.
Well, you can't build up on BG much. It will still be the same mode with some improvements 10 years from now.
For example, besides adding new heroes and cards, they could introduce "scouting" a future opponent for gold, or buying health with gold etc... But it would still be the same mode with same main mechanics.
If they are to change the core mechanics they would simply release a new mode (just like they do with the cards - new ones instead of updating old ones).

The text on that picture is completely up for interpretation. I understand the 'Ashes of Outland expansion cycle' to mean the four months before the next expansion, not the entire time the cards will be in standard.
Nah, they wouldn't use the word "cycle" if it wasn't meant to be 2 years. I agree it's not precisely stated, but it's 95% to be interpreted as 2 years.
I guess most people are confused, because the previous BG QoL lasted until next expansion.

I hope you're right, but I really don't think so. In the Omnistone special from a couple of weeks ago, they discuss the new Tavern Pass, and Firebat clearly states that you have to pay every expansion (watch it here). I expect him to know, with him being a streamer and all.
EDIT: All over reddit, people are talking about spending 20$ per expansion to get the Battlegrounds perks, and no Blizzard employee is correcting them. Given how active the Hearthstone team is on reddit, their silence on the subject is telling - if it was two years and not four months, they would be correcting people and publishing clarifications. I'm pretty sure is 20$ per expansion.
It's 4 months, not two hears. And it's been confirmed. That's still really cheap, and if you don't like it, nobody is forcing you to buy it or even play it.
this price is a joke... you should pay more to play it its not hard to make 2500 gold...

Where are people getting the 2 years from? It was my understanding that you had to repurchase the pass every new expansion.

That the original post has 0 upvotes shows how much people agree with OP's sentiment, as inaccurate as these things are.

Wahhhhhhh bgs not free anymore wah
If that's the case they are toying with the playerbase with that text line. I hope they blue-post CLEAR official details until this comes out.
If it's 2500 gold for 4 months then you have to be 10k+ MMR to get this and it to be worthy for you.

They should seriously consider lowering the gold cost of this then since BG is so limited at the moment that it feels like a BETA version mode.
