This post is factually incorrect. Before tirion was removed from the game, he had an average placement of 3rd place. Deathwing had an average placement of 3.5. Yes, Deathwing is overpowered. But he was certainly not "more cancerous than Tirion".
To be sure, not worse than Tirion. But I'll say this about Deathwing and Ratpack: there's little more frustrating than having your last minion trading into a Rat Pack... and taking an extra 5 damage for the loss.
I'll take my lumps for a fair loss, but do I really need to take extra lumps, too? When a tier-2 minion is dealing damage like it was a tier-6 minion, I'm just not a fan of that.
Deathwing from +3 to +2 (as is likely to happen) is going to be a big improvement. It'll be a lot easier to get value trades against now 3/1 tokens than against 4/1 tokens. However, I'd still really enjoy it if tokens did less (no?) damage to heroes.
You can debate about whether Rat Pack is the problem or if Deathwing's synergy with Tokens is too good. We'll see how he does with only +2 Attack bonus.
However, I think it actually is problematic that every lobby with a Deathwing player feels like there's an elephant in the room. Everyone needs to pick token cards, ideally a Rat Pack, 2 if possible, just to be prepared for that one matchup.
While I think it is interesting to have Deathwing as a hero where matches feel different, something that makes him stand out in comparison to so many other heroes that will more or less all go for the same minions, he's having a bit too much impact on the game. When you are more concerned about countering Deathwing instead of developing your own comp, and no other hero, hardly any tribe, allows and even requires such as a specific counter-measure, he needs to be reconsidered on a fundamental level: Either you want every hero to feel as unique and design Battlegrounds as a mode where you are supposed to counter other heroes as much possible and play according to your own strengths, in which case quite a few cards and most heroes should be rebalanced. Or you want Battlegrounds as a mode where you are mostly trying to do your own thing, improvise with what you get offered etc. without thinking too much and picking minions specifically based on your lobby, in which case Deathwing is just the wrong kind of hero.

Or you play as deathwing and everyone else has 1-2 ratpacks and you never get one so you die after like five rounds! Also fun =) I'd say he's extremly up and down, sure if you get the rat packs you can quite fast get to tier 5/6 but if you dont, you'll lose rather quickly.
I have to admit that I think he's a problem. But not because he's necessarily op.
It's because, like Tyrion, hes relatively boring. Rat pack, microbots, tokens, it's really about getting as many minions as possible for an easy top4 finish.
Hes also the only hero you actively draft specific cards for. Like buying a random ratpack to fill out your board just cause its deathwing. Just not a very fun hero overall.
I think they simply rotate him out at nerfing him to +2 attack would kill him. I'd rotate him out and forget he existed tbh.
I'm trying to limit my salt cause I dont think hes so strong he cant be beaten... just the worst designed hero.
P.S. I enjoyed tirion and didnt want him shipped off rotation. I found him more fun to play as and against him then deathwing.
The problem is everyone is teching for Deathwings hero power, generally over their own hero's power. Of course there are counters but which ever player gets the rats early game is in far too strong a position.

You can build around him. Its bad but not super bad. Tirion was definitely worse.

I cant imagine a Case where id dont buy a Rat on Tavern2, with or without Deathwing .
