Everything blinks and makes funny sounds, you can roll to get something better, funny comments by Bob that keep you addicted. It actually uses similar mechanics. I like playing it very much, and I also think that it is really addicting, even more than Hearthstone itself.
Some people enjoy slot machines. Some people enjoy Battelgrounds. Some people throw their entire lives away playing slot machines. Some people throw their entire lives away playing battlegrounds.
Most matchups in BG now are decided by who goes first too, so gambling in a coin toss followed by lights and sounds is BG.
What does going first have to do with anything? Minions still damage each other.... going first is better on certain builds... but if it were that good the DH hero would be top tier.

It has a ton to do with everything. Bird, spawn buff before they attack you, cleaves, overkills, pirate attack buffs, arcane cannon, soul juggler. There are more builds that benefit from attacking first than the otherwise.
And illidan is top tier if you highroll spawns or mccaws, but he’s not because you have to highroll those as stated.

Welcome to hearthstone, the entire game psychology is based on gambling, from opening the app / game to the moment you hit close
Did you notice that they stopped showing the replay in the background after the game had finished?
it was always ending up in a different outcome depending on all the stupid rng, who goes first etc proving that the mode is a joke. Same game - same minions - different outcome. If that’s not software driven casino then what is it?
I actually stopped playing BG after they introduced the Tavern Pass. Maybe there is still hope. I actually think that every card game, where you invest time in your collection is addicting. But that's different towards a slot machine-like BG, where you actually can not collect stuff.

OP is figuring out games with micro-transactions are designed to be addictive.

If you have ever played the BG, you would not comment something like this.
Well, I can't understand why you are so rough. I prefer to play poker, but I think it's up to everyone to decide either to play a game or not.
I will soon join therapy group for hearthstone addicts.
Thats why it is addictive as gambling.

Consumer product designed to draw the consumer's attention? :O
really very interesting
*Hearthstone* is like a casino slot machine.
Take a walk on the wild side...
