I would maybe more equate it to those mobile games that just require you to tap the screen, but they keep giving you rewards constantly like you are accomplishing something other than spending time with the app open.
I know, reductive since this game is a bit more than that. But you are likely to get first place a lot with even a minimal skill level of the mode, giving you that dopamine rush.
Having said that, I um utterly bored of every other mode in this game.
For those of us that have been playing hearthstone from the start it is really just an addiction that has kept us around this long.
I play battlegrounds very sporatically. I certainly don't condemn it. It's charming for all it's simplicity.
Talk simplicity when you have reached 10k mmr. There is a lot more strategy to the mode than you give it credit for.
The game is functionally the same regardless of mmr. At 10k you are simply playing against players who will likely also be playing a perfect line. If anything if all players are playing perfectly the outcomes become more rng dependent not less.
I think the reason these threads keep popping up is because you have those that believe it’s an rng fiesta (it is) and those that believe it is skill based (it is)”
Individually each game is a purely rng. What minions you get, when you get them, and can you guess correctly based on further events.
Over many hours and hours of play, playing an optimized line , and hoping your opponents don’t, you can gain some advantage.
Basicslly it’s poker. Consistency is key.
so those that say it’s a waste of time you probably aren’t playing enough to start taking advantage of others mistakes. streamers play for hours every day, expierence huge losing streaks, get tilted, then come back and do it the next day.
I think yes, a computer can be made to play a nice game of poker. But, what separates poker from battlegrounds is that in poker you can bluff. That makes a game within the game possible to exploit, and probably is a lot more important than simply making the best play every turn in like a computer algorithm.
The original analogy I was going to use was blackjack because if you play a consistent perfect line you can stretch out a small advantage against the house. BUT I figured the first nay sayers I would get would point out that in blackjack you’re just playing against the house and other players poor play isn’t a factor,.....I would argue that point though, as if you ever had a shitty player feeding the dealer cards cause they don’t know how to play a bad player can absolutely cause problems for good players.....basically anyone that keeps feeding rafaam strong minions,
im not saying this is poker just that there is a system you can use consistently to minimize rng.

The interesting part is how all those 10k players got there in the first place. Spoiler: it is not by RNG alone.
I totally agree on this. And NO he is not saying that "if I don't like it, nobody should".
I have a hard time comprehending how ANYONE can waste their time on games like Autochess or Battleground. It's basically an RNG festival with like 90% luck and 10% skin, if we may call it that. They should really focus on the main game. Galakron's Awakening recieved mostly negative to mixed reviews, and the player base is ever dropping because it's really hard to get into the game right now and the meta is so stale people are just taking a break until the rotation. With Legends of Runeterra approaching on mobile devices, Hearthsone is bound to lose at least some percentage of it's fanbase. Most of the veterans will stay because of the time and money already invested, but LOR (so it seems) provides a beginer-friendly experience Hearthstone can't DREAM to compete with right now.

True it’s by playing a lot of games and minimizing mistakes,,,.this has been said I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make.
I guess is all about personal enjoyment...for me BGs is main thing which still keeps me along with HS as constructed doesn't feel fun,and because that i still play other mods besides BG.
I agree with the OP. Battlegrounds suck. Arena is far more entertaining/rewarding if you don't like regular constructed, laddering, memes, etc. but they refuse to dedicate any time to it and every patch is battlegrounds this and that. To each his own, but to me battlegrounds were fun for a few runs and then every run began feeling identically the same.
The popularity of autobattlers has cut into Blizzard's market share so they created Battlegrounds to keep Hearthstone relevant. Too bad the card game itself isn't able to hold its own anymore. It will be interesting to see what happens when LoR and MtG:Arena hit mobile markets.

Yes. Battlegrounds is a stupid waste of energy. Know what else is? Crack. Apt comparison.
Dude, chill a bit.
If BG is not for you, just leave it alone, it is easy.
You got Standard, Wild, Arena and Solo content.

I have. All that happens at 10k is first place is more 1 in 8. Under 5k a good player can get first place almost every match.
10K? Post a screenshot please.
Yeah, I didn't think we'd be seeing that screenshot any time soon.
