Battlegrounds is grouped with Arena in a 'Modes' section of the game. I'm wondering if Battlegrounds will have an entry fee similar to Arena after it's out of beta, and offer rewards as well. Personally, I'd prefer it to remain free and be just for fun, and am willing not to have any rewards as long as it remains a free option. Given the profit motive, though, I wonder if it's going to remain that way, or if it will change, particularly if a lot of people get hooked on it and it's another potential source of substantial revenue... or if that was the intention all along.
Like everyone, I know it doesn't have an entry fee, present tense. I'm wondering if that's just for beta. I don't think anyone in charge has ever been asked that, or has ever stated it's specifically going to stay free forever.

Exactly, that's what we know right now and have been told. A thread won't divulge any information that google doesn't provide. You might have a better chance getting an answer from a dev on reddit where devs actually do read and respond.
They will never make a promise like, "This mode will always be free until the end of time."
But since they've been pretty clear that there will be no rewards (either now or in the near future), it's a safe bet that there will not be an entry fee anytime soon.

The point wasn't to discover information Google doesn't provide. It was to wonder about a subject out loud and see what other thought about the subject.

LOL.
Never understand why people reply to a legitimate conversation starter dismissively for no reason.
It's a good question and one I have been asking myself. Personally, I think they will eventually charge and offer rewards as it makes business sense given the time and resources they've invested in making it (and will continue to expand to maintain it).
I wasn't being dismissive. My response is literally just saying you won't get an answer for the question that your title posed but reddit might, just trying to be helpful.
Without any feasible rewards for winning, other than a rank of some sort, then it would seem unlikely that they would charge to play it. Compare it to Arena - there are sizeable returns on your investment, if you play well.
That's not to say that they wont change it to be like Arena down the line perhaps - but it would alienate a large amount of the playerbase who prefer to keep their gold for packs, etc. But there's been no announcement that I am aware of for plans to make it an entry-fee based game.
It will be 'free'. The entire point of battlegrounds is to give players an extra incent to buy more packs -thus spend more money or be more active playing ranked to get the gold- to unlock battleground bonuses. I'm not sure whether it's a healthy sign per se.
If a lot of players keep playing BGs and ignore ladder, then they will add an entry fee. Either that or they'll disable it because of an "unknown bug" which causes some issues which won't be shared with us.

It doesn't matter if it's healthy or not, what matters is if it's profitable. Who cares if some people get sick from BGs...
The real question is, will this mode be wildly popular or not. Personally I like it because it really doesn't have any of the frustration found in the other modes.
I haven't played the other auto-chess games, but I'd assume whatever they are doing to make money is something Blizzard is thinking about implementing. I wouldn't expect an entry fee, but reasons to encourage you to spend money I'd expect as a certainty.

No Battlegrounds mode does not have an entry fee

Time, and at some point Google, will tell.
There is only my justice now
