I like Dungeon Run as much as the next guy, but in all honesty, I really hope Blizzard doesn't keep doing these Dungeon Run style PvE modes with each new expansion. Monster Hunt was way too easy and a lot of players completed it day one. We need actual adventures, bosses that require you build a deck around, and that have massive rewards, other then a pointless card back.
Remember how memorable the four traditional adventures were? League of Explorers alone was just so well made, so much fun, had so many amazing cards to earn, and was just an amazing adventure all around. Hell, it's the only Adventure I actually fully completed Heroic Mode on.
But the problem is now we won't get adventures like those anymore. Now we just get these randomized Dungeon Run like "adventures" where you build a deck per run, and the only reward is a cardback for completing the whole thing. The Frozen Throne adventure was a great adventure, however it was very short, and the rewards were pretty shit. The free Hero Card, and Arthas were great, but only a card pack per wing completion? What the fuck Blizzard?
All I want for the next expansions is more adventures like Frozen Throne. Only thing time, give us more bosses to fight, and give us better rewards. More card packs after wing completion would be a good idea, or hell, just give us cards likes the old Adventures did. We need more.
Honestly, I find the dungeon runs to be boring as hell, especially with the lack of interesting awards. Hopefully. we get an adventure next expansion.
We won't get them back for at least a year if they ever do change their mind and bring them back. Ben Brode said before he left that the next expansion is complete and testing is being finalized the expansion after that is having the finishing touches done on it and is entering testing and they have just started designing the first expansion for next year. So if they do decide to back step on the no more adventures thing we wont see one until exp 2 of 2019 at the earliest.
I personally love Dungeon Run and it's easily my favourite adventure so far, but a lot of that is because I love Roguelikes. That being said, I was less of a fan of Monster Hunt and I think it's because it tried to do the same thing as Dungeon Run except more scripted, but not as scripted as the traditional PvEs. Frozen Throne was excellent, especially the first and last encounters. I think it'd be nice if they went back to some of the older styles of adventures for a bit and then revisit the Dungeon Run style after a few expansions just to help mix things up and keep it fresh.
I also obviously want more rewards as much as anyone, but a thing to keep in mind is that for the more recent expansions (i.e. Frozen Throne, Kobolds, Witchwood) the PvE content has been free unlike the older Adventures (i.e. Naxx, Blackrock, Explorers, Karazhan) where you had to pay for each wing in order to play them. So it's not surprising that the older adventures gave more rewards because you paid for the content. So hypothetically if we wanted to get a lot more rewards from PvE content that might mean going back to paying for adventures (unless Blizzard decides they are okay giving out more free stuff to players).
Dungeon Run and Monster Hunt have two differences from the traditional adventures. 1) Instead of treating each boss as a puzzle to beat by building a deck from your collection to exploit their weakness/gimmick (the traditional adventure style), your character grows in power as it progresses on the Run/Hunt by finding treasure and adding new cards to your deck. 2) Dungeon Run/Monster Hunt is a more repeatable mode that isn't always the exact same every time like League of Explorers, Naxx, etc. as the bosses you face aren't always the same and there are rare bosses to encounter. So from the perspective of gameplay, Dungeon Run type modes should have more replay value and be much more friendly to those who are F2P.
It sounds like your only real gripe with the Dungeon Run format is the lack of exciting prizes for playing it. I believe Blizzard wanted to move away from putting cards behind a barrier where you had to actually beat something to get them, even after you paid money. The way they do it now you can get anything you want right away via buying packs and crafting, which is much better for players who wish to play with the cards they are most excited about right when the expansion releases. Also, by not putting cards behind a barrier of gameplay, they can make the content more challenging right off the bat.
While getting a card back as a prize is not super exciting (I agree with you here), it doesn't cost you anything to play Dungeon Run either. It is just a bonus on top of the normal ways to play Hearthstone (ranked/arena). Would you be more excited about the Dungeon Run/Monster Hunt format if it awarded more than one card back (or maybe you could earn old card backs you were missing by completing it subsequent times)? How about a new alternate hero or some other kind of flair for your account?
Ehh my issue with Dungeon Run is that it's too time consuming. First 7 bosses are completly irrelevant and you lose to them once every 100th game. The only challenging and fun boss is the last one but you gotta waste 60 minutes to get to him.
I love the dungeon runs, it's a fun little single player experience. I really don't understand people who are complaining about the rewards, if you're playing for rewards you're probably better off spending that time mowing someone's lawn for a few bucks so you can buy yourself some card packs.
It would probably be best for Blizzard to have no reward at all so that people who are only interested in such don't have to bother with it, but it felt nice to get a little card back as a token of your achievement.

So much this ... I miss them . These dungeon runs are like a cheap trick.
