Hello, one and all! It's been a while since I last posted anything on here, but I figured, since I'm getting more into Hearthstone again, I might as well start acting around in the community. In the past, I have been hosting these tournaments on another hearthstone forum (Which has pretty much died now). The tournaments there were albeit small, but honestly fun to watch and organize.
Usually when it comes to Hearthstone, there's a prohibitive barrier in form of the dust pricing of competitive decks preventing newer, or disenfranchised players from really partaking in any tournaments at all. Well, fear not, for this tournament is very budget friendly. Let me introduce you to Hearthstone Pauper, a format directly nicked from Magic: the Gathering. You only get to play with commons (and there have been some pretty busted commons in Hearthstone history), and this format tries to push you into playing with cards you may never have touched before today.
The Tournament is going to be using the Conquest ruleset, as I'm not planning for this to become too big of an event (unless I get more particiapants than I know what to do with), and it's going to be focused on the European Servers. I have playtested a few decks in Pauper, and the format is honestly quite fun and enjoyable. If you like yourself some old-school hearthstone, this is the closest you are going to get to reliving those good old days, while still having it feel fresh and exciting. Unlike a format like Standard or Wild, this is a format we haven't really explored yet, so there's a lot of wiggleroom for you brewers out there who love to break formats wide open and find competitive decks.
So, how do you sign-up?
Well, all you have to do is send a mail with your decklists, battletag and any other relevant information to thekabalkorner@gmail.com. The Sign-up period will last from today, the 1st of November to November 15th (Two weeks from now). Alright, now with all that said and done, lets go through some ground rules.
All matches will be best-of-5. The first player to win 3 games within the match is considered the winner of the match and advances.
Each player must submit decklists from three unique classes prior to each stage of the event. Players may submit new decks prior to each stage of the event.
A player must win one game with each of his three decks to win the match.
When a player wins a game, the deck used by the winning player cannot be used for the remainder of the match.
The losing player can keep the same deck used or switch to a different one of their choice.
Players will be told what classes their opponent has available, but they won’t know which class is picked until both players have picked.
Pauper is COMMONS ONLY. This means that your deck may not contain any Basics, Rares, Epics or Legendaries.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here. So far, there's no actual banned list, but I'm keeping my eyes on a few cards which have been performing really, really well in playtesting. If their presence in this tournament (and other ones to come in the future) turns out to be oppressive, I may issue restrictions or bans upon them if one card sticks out to me as being too strong.
I hope you all have a great day! Thanks for reading!
Are commons from any set allowed or only from Standard sets?
Why no basic cards? There is no reason to exclude them from a cost perspective, but maybe you excluded them for another reason?
I excluded them because some Basics would cause major problems with the format. That, and I want people to stop relying on Basics like Fireball, Frostbolt, Consecration and Wild Growth. With them in the format, they'd be Auto includes.
Sounds like fun! I'd join, but in NA and you said this is EU focused..
If there's enough interest, I could host a Pauper Tournament on the NA Servers in the future for sure! But nothing's stopping anyone from hosting their own pauper tournament

Cool idea!
Nature is the Day.
Man is the Sun.
Woman is the Moon.
The Stone is the Sky.
The Art is the Way.
Humerously enough, I think that mana wyrm nerf saved this format from being over run with mages.

Same here, if we're enough people maybe we could make our own?

All cards that have been printed as commons are legal. So yes, Piloted Shredder is in the format.

Lol. Well, with no frostbolt or arcane missiles backing it up, Mana Wyrm is suprizingly not that scary, even pre-nerf.
This sounds really. When will the actual tournament take place? Is there a set date for it?
We're starting on friday the 16th.
are you going to stream it?
I think we should be able to use rares, they're not that hard to get...
Unpopular opinion: Rogue is OP
Most likely, yes.
Yes. I will
Pauper is a format all about the commons. Constraints promote Creativity.
