First of all I am not trying to make a one Is better than the other thread or comparing apples to oranges. I am just curious If there Is any serious MTG players who attended tournaments regularly that have been playing the HS beta. What are some of the major differences you see from a competitive standpoint any major flaws you see that would prevent HS from being competitive at a very high level? Thank you in advance for any responses I might get I am very excited and hopefully HS can be the next big competitive TCG.
I played MTG and attended a few pre-release tournaments (for sealed deck), as well as hundreds of booster drafts locally at a collectibles convention. I was competitive in the fact that I earned cards worth more than the total I've paid to play booster drafts, but have never played MTG in a constructed/type 2 tournament.
IMO HS is good enough to have tournaments. I feel there is enough skill involved with the game. However, the current version of beta hardly functions as a competitive game because the rewards system is not yet implemented. So the factor lacking is the need for someone to actually make/host the tournaments. It'd be nice if Blizzard made in-game tournaments. I have a feeling HS may havea highly competitive component to it once the rewads system is added in, but it really depends on how they implement it.
HS is actually very different from MTG from a playing perspective. The biggest factor is that you can't do anything on your opponents turn. That means you do plays based on what you think will happen, rather than responding to what happened. This generally involves making attempts to bait cards you suspect your opponent may have. Pretty much lots of mind games. While there is more luck in HS, there's a lot of skill involved as well. I think something that sets HS apart is that the pace is really fast. Aggro decks are really on a timer because of the HS mana system.
