Step 1: Give players the ability to filter out 2 classes they don't want to play against. Step 2: Watch as the queue for priest and mage decks sharply increases in duration and ends up facing them against other priests or mages.
No, that's how you tell if people don't like playing against a class. The way to tell if a class is OP is by looking at the win rate of each respective class, and see how it changes based on what rank it's played at. That way you can tell which classes are winning too much, and also see if it is because a class is good against bad players, or just too good overall.
We don't ahve access to this, but I'm sure Blizzard does.
People not liking to play against a class is a direct result of their being overpowered. Maybe not by individual sample, but you could make polls asking people which classes they dislike playing against the most and statistically, the results would accurately reflect how overpowered they are.
People not liking to play against a class is a direct result of their being overpowered.
Not really. I would choose which class to avoid based on which deck I was playing. If I were playing Mage or Warlock, I would avoid Druids and Paladins at all costs. If I were playing Rogue or Paladin, then I wouldn't mind matching up against Druids.
Priest is the second weakest class in HS right now and a freewin most of the time.
Priest player, uh?
Priest is not op with his copying from the opponent's deck, minions with 10/10 in turn 3, mind control, shadow form (2 damage for 2 mana on ANY target wtf.), low-cost destruction of any minion that has no attack of 4, massive healing, etc... noooo that's really weak. rofl.
HA! HA-HA, hahaha.
Ok enough of that. Ive said it in another post a few days ago. Priests are nowhere to be seen in higher ranks. In my last 100 games I had to deal with 2 priests (checked my statsrecorder). I can see why priests are feared in lower ranks (no offense) due to their removal n stuff, but most games rank 7+ where players have their respective dream decks are over on turn 6-9 at the latest. Priest shine in the late game and are screwed when ppl play or buff to 4 dmg minions.
Minion with 10/10 on turn 3? Lightwell + Divine Spirit + Inner Fire = Wow 6 cards which does not deserve to be in a deck all in the starting hand. You just need ONE silence or removal to get rid of 3 cards from your opponent. Its like a friend of mine playing HS. He said to me while we were drafting arena: "Hey cool Angry chicken, its pretty strong". Yeah its strong if you play it on turn 1, buff his hp on turn 2 and attack, hope it doesnt die and attack on turn 3 with 5 dmg, yay.
Mind Control is mostrly a dead card. Since the nerf it is rather useless and should be in a deck once and not twice anymore. You get one for two, yeah, but your turn is over and if you wasnt already ahead you dont usually gain as much, especially if your opponent doesnt play a big minion. And again: Most matches dont last as long.
Shadow form is cool, but every class has cool stuff. It is really strong, but hey, ever faced a Jaraxxus? :D
I dont know what ranks you play in and I dont want to offend you, but please try to play priest and judge after ~50 games or so and record your stats^^
I am no priest player myself. I have a deck for daily quests though.
Priest is one of the best classes in the game imho.... Scratcher said all, plus 2 shadow form is 3 dmg for 2 mana... if that is not op i am santa claus
I was watching a lot of higher ranked streams lately (I cant get higher than rank 4 atm :/ ). Everyones playing Druid, WL, Pala and Rogue. Some rare Warriors, Mages and Shamys. Priest and Hunter is nowhere to be seen. Most streamers dont even have a deck for them.
Please dont get me wrong, this is absolutely no proof, but at least some would play priest, if it was as good as you say, right?
Priest is one of the best classes in the game imho.... Scratcher said all, plus 2 shadow form is 3 dmg for 2 mana... if that is not op i am santa claus
Except for the fact that you have to burn 6 mana and 2 cards to get there in the first place. If you waste that much tempo getting to level 2 shadow form, you probably took a lot of damage and now need the heal.
Priest is one of the best classes in the game imho.... Scratcher said all, plus 2 shadow form is 3 dmg for 2 mana... if that is not op i am santa claus
But you used 2 turns worth of mana, and 2 cards, to get that 3 damage! You are going to be in trouble more times than not sacrificing that much for a better hero power.
Priest is not op with his copying from the opponent's deck, minions with 10/10 in turn 3
wait, what? you really think Mindgames is op? It's like, the most inconsistent card of the game. I doubt it's ran in any decent's priest deck actually (maybe it's not that bad in the current meta, now that I think about it, but still, I don't think it's good enough most of the time).
If you're not talking about mindgames, it can be silenced (and it also requires a lot of cards to pull it off). And it's not impossible to silence/remove it on turn 4.
I don't believe any class to be "OP" - at all. That's some meta horse dung. Sure, some classes play better against others. Sure, there are bugs, exploits and questionable balance on some individual cards. But classes? Until I see a reasonable argument for the claim, absolutely not.
People not liking to play against a class is a direct result of their being overpowered. Maybe not by individual sample, but you could make polls asking people which classes they dislike playing against the most and statistically, the results would accurately reflect how overpowered they are.
Statistics work differently though ;) Yes, you are right, by individual it varies. I hate playing vs. priest, because it is boring gameplay. I also don't like playing one, although it would have been a good option for a day or two. Still m W/L ratio vs priest is higher than vs. any other class.
But, just by asking a question, you don't answer a different one. Your sample can't be representative, so anything you try to pull out your "answer" is void.

How can you even remotely think that something people dont want to play against is directly OP.
Because it's logical? Sure, there's be the odd person here and there like you, who dislikes playing against certain classes for arbitrary reasons, but that's not representative of the masses. Most people will not want to face the classes they lose the most against, regardless of the deck type or play style.
No, that's how you tell if people don't like playing against a class. The way to tell if a class is OP is by looking at the win rate of each respective class, and see how it changes based on what rank it's played at. We don't ahve access to this, but I'm sure Blizzard does.
We actually do have stats. It isn't as comprehensive as what Blizzard has, since I'm sure there are millions of players in beta right now, but a sample of 5 thousand players is very good and statistically significant.
Nothing is op...Only thing that exists are bad players+whiners who copy other people's decks to be competetive and still they can't go past ranked 10 most of them.
and dont forget to then whine about cards being OP liek MC so blizzard will nerf even that for them so the netdecks can move up 1 rank. They lose to a priest OMG MC OP. Soon pala will be there cos they got some minions killed by an equality combo omg omg nerf. Thanks for some1 who actually gets how it works
I usually win against Priests and I still believe that MC was, and is, OP. The ability to take permanent, un-silenceable control of your opponent's minions is head and shoulders above anything that the other classes have to offer; Pally is my main and I'd take MC over the Equality/Consecrate gimmick any day.
@Firespawnie So, you really think that everything in the entire game is perfectly balanced? If blizzard was so perfect, and magically made every single card in the game without a single error, they would have know not to nerf any of their flawless cards.
@Donfurr Not a chance that equality is getting nerfed. I still feel MC did need to get nerfed (maybe to 9 mana, not 10), but priest didn't. MC was an incredibly overpowered card for an otherwise weak class. Other things need to be stronger in priest, not MC. I just wish Blizzard would buff something for once. I mean, geez I don't think they've buffed a single card.
Mind control WAS a problem in constructed. Completely removing a players ability to play any minions above 6 cost without first having massive board control is devastating, and that's without ever having to even play the card. Priest having the freedom to play their big minions (which are very strong), while making it suicide for the enemy AND having the strongest late game hero power made priest nearly unbeatable late game. However, they were kept balanced because of their incredibly weak early game.
That put priest in an incredibly awkward spot, they by far had the best late game, but by far the worst early game as well. That's why I believe that MC needed a nerf, whilst buffing their early game. That way you can give priest a fighting chance against rush decks without making them incredibly overpowered.
Mind Control WAS not a problem in constructed. Only for those who dont know how to play against it. The Priest meta only survived for a short while and got completely blown away before the nerf even hit. But this will turn into an endless discussion.
The Only 2 class that who actuallly really had a Meta to begin with was the Frost Giant Mage and the Miracle Rogue. Which are now both considered dead.
It's not an endless discussion, you didn't address my point. I am not saying priest was overpowered, thus MC needed a nerf. I was saying priest wasn't well-rounded enough with incredibly good late game, incredibly bad early game. Playing around MC was one of the biggest strengths MC offered. Forcing your opponent to never play a 6 of higher drop because maybe you have a card in your hand is pretty damn strong. It's not like they have to cast it on a 5 drop, they'd just play their own 6-8 drop and beat your board that way.
Please understand, I'm not saying priest was OP, I was saying too much of priest's power was rested in MC, and some of Priest's power should have been spread out. What would you say is better for the game, a priest with an abysmal early game and incredible late game (loses to any rush deck, beats any non-priest slow deck), or a priest with a weak early game and a strong late game? We both agree that priest didn't deserve a straight-up nerf, but I'd rather priest stood a fighting chance against rush, and late game decks stand a fighting chance against priest.

Out of all classes I dislike playing against Priests, Paladins and Shamans.

k15: That trade would be insanely bad. Dont you ever give away eq+cons!!! MC is garbage and dead weight most of the time. It is pretty imba against:
