I don't play much standard but currently I'm seeing a lot of videos where getting Mr. Smite from the ship wins Warriors the game. In arena you hunt dragons/beasts and amalgam to get either Onyxia/Ysera or your colossal to win. Rogue can discover literally any legendary from any class.
I'm not against randomness and I like discover as a mechanic. But legendaries are single copy in a deck because of a reason. They are too strong already so getting another copy or even a cheap 1 mana version shouldn't be that easy.

If you remove legendaries from discover pools its going to make the game so incredibly linear. Thats not a good idea. Nellie can just be changed to discover pirates that cost 5 or less.
The problem today is discovering Mr. Smite, next expansion it might be a problematic epic or rare. The problem is overpowered cards that are a win condition in themselves.
I think that removing them from the discovery pool would make things less fun. I'd like them to decrease the possibility of discovering legendaries. Decrease it significantly. So as to not have them being discovered every game.
While being able to get Hooktusk, Edwin, or Smite off of Nellie in Rogue feels amazing (particularly to complete the Hooktusk requirement), with it generally being a game over it can be pretty dumb. That being said, I don't mind being rewarded for playing Faelin.
I’d be fine with a lowered frequency. Something where you really win the lottery if you discover that particular card. As it is currently, I can regularly get 2-3 Gaias as mage in one game. In a recent arena run 9-3 with DH, I discovered metamorphosis 5 times from the panda.
It would also be just fine not to have legendaries in the pool. It would not make the game linear or boring. In fact, just having random draw like swashburgler instead of discover would be fine.
Also, discover from your deck should not be a thing. Tracking used to come at a cost as hunters only draw, and now everyone has it. Some have it with a bonus.

I've started running double silence in all decks. It's a win condition against Druid, Pirates, Mechs etc in the current meta. Nit just for Nellie anymore XD
No, discover is fine the way it is. Pirates can be annoying, but nerfs came, meta changed and they are not that problematic anymore. Most of the times discover is about spells anyway and these rare cases when discovered legendary enables equally legendary comeback or gives you final nail in the coffin are part of the game's charm.
I guess if they were treated similar to the arena drafting (years back when I played it at least) where finding a legendary pick amongst the 30 cards was like a 1 in 20 chance similar to pack openings, then I wouldn't mind. Would also make it feel nice when you do highroll a good legendary after many attempts.
But banning them from the pool just sounds like salt, I hate being smited 4 times in a game but I also enjoy playing 7 leviathans and watch my opponent spam that wow emote every time another comes down
I wouldn't mind if the discover system got rework so that you couldn't ever discover the same card twice in one game. I think that it would make it a little less random over all, and limit some of the crazier "discover a discover" card chains.
That would have prevented the shadowstep and panda importer nonsense as well.
I mean i think its somewhat fine like it is .. i just love packing as many discover/add random card in a meme deck in wild :( Any change would ruin this kind of fun tbh ..
better they adress the problem card , if you can discover X steadily , then it might need a nerf if its too oppressive !
I’d rather they nerf the problem mechanic than continue on a forever quest of nerfing whatever card is problematic to discover.
There are some cards that are great and cool and fun if they can only be in the deck once. If they get discovered 4 times, however, we have a problem. Why nerf the great card when the problem is the discover? Almost every deck that ends up being complained about on this site is powered by discover. Currently, Druid, pirate warrior, and Mech mage are all discover decks.
Maybe I’m just old. I miss the days of card counting and anticipating an opponent’s deck. Discover kinda put an end to that level of strategy.

discovers problem right now is volume not quality tbh. Im getting 5 chained discovered cards in one turn pretty easily with mech decks

You can silence Nellie, you know that right?

Excluding legendarys would probably end up buffing the discover mechanic in the long term. The fewer options there are, the more reliable discover is.
