I used to play standard and wild quite a bit but stopped playing around a year and a half ago. I've just logged in today and DE'd all my extra gold cards I've amassed through the years and have 32k dust.
Looking to get involved again but don't really wanna buy packs. Any solid craft / deck choices and recommendations to jump into the action? Or general advice to get back involved? Obviously don't have any cards from this year/rotation.
If you want to ladder you will have to craft some cards.
Pirate Warrior should be easy to upgrade if you played Wild back then.
+ 1 legendary quest and 4-5 new pirates, the rest is old stuff.
It is a T1 deck at the moment.

Big Priest should be playable with 3-4 new cards as well. But it is T2 at the moment at best (more like T3 in my opinion). The game plan is still the same.

Also a "ok deck" from the past which is again about T3 "playable" is Secret Mage.

Two stronger but maybe a little bit more expensive to upgrade decks whould be Evenlock and Renolock.
Any Paladin deck should work. (There are several that do not use the Questline.) Aggro Druid is almost too strong and is pretty budget-friendly, with only one legendary.
There are viable options for every class at the moment, now that Warlock is not causing problems. Honestly, now is probably the best time to pick something that appeals to you -- it's hard to go wrong.
At this point Standard is pretty much all about finishing your quest line first or aggroing your opponent before they finish theirs. Usually happens around turn 8.
So if you don't enjoy a combo/aggro style of gameplay, standard is probably not enjoyable right now.

That's not true at all. There are several control decks with reasonable win rates. They may be low Tier 2, but they are still viable for climbing.

Hey guys,

There should have been a free deck for your return. They were doing a "new and returning player" free deck thing. I think it's still available.
That would give you a good starting point.
Questlines are the new hot thing. Warlock quest was the top dog but just got nerfed pretty hard. And banned in wild altogether.
You'd probably be best to take a look at decks involving them and pick your favourite. Can't really go wrong*
*Priest questline might be the weakest at the moment, though.
Other than that - handbuff paladin is pretty solid, face hunter is still good (duh) and multiple variations of Demon Hunter decks are doing well.
