Such a truthful reflection of the current amazing meta, ain't it? Roughly 80% of pros taking mage, paladin, rogue and priest. How peculiar. Those mirrors are so much fun!
Yeah it's ridiculous. I really don't understand why they play meta decks. Oh wait... Maybe that's because it's a freaking world championship and they actually want to win?
Jokes aside, there really is nothing weird about it. It's like watching El Classico and wondering why Koeman plays Messi instead of Braithwaite.
RNG is a HUGE factor. It's a card game after all. Every card draw is a RNG effect as well.
But I do agree to some extent that anyone with knowledge how the game works and experience can be a "pro" as long as you devote as much time and effort as they do.
@M0res: that is absolutely idiotic. You don’t become a pro if you don’t know how to properly maneuver a deck and channel the rng properly.
Yeah yeah... look at this match from yesterday: https://youtu.be/4ANA7cAp7lk . Go to 26th minute rogue vs priest and tell me what the priest could have done to mitigate the rng... you call that skill or pure luck?
There's always a few players that make interesting tweaks, or like DreadEye, who brought a deck almost no one expected or prepared for, with Inquisitor DH.
DreadEye was a few unlucky/lucky turns away from being Week 1 winner, so it's not even like he didn't do well with his off meta choice.

It's within the realm of possibility that an average player could get to grandmasters based on luck. It happened in poker when Jamie Gold won the main event. This was a $10,000 buyin tournament and he was an amateur. My god he got lucky.

As you said poker I just have an example as my friend who won a game of poker last night with a couple of his friends. He told me he played every hand and forced his luck literary. He's not very good playing poker but still got lucky and won.
As you said it's within the realm of possibility that an average player reaches higher ranks/ grandmasters but at those higher levels I believe every player that is top 100 maybe 200 on a regular occasion is a contender to be the winner.

Can't believe they are actually trying to win games smh.

All games are driven by rng. They call them “pros” but anyone with a basic knowledge of the game could win those matches if rng favours them

Literally every tournament is like this, where have you been.
yes anyone can that’s why you see the same people over and over

tournament play is the one place you should expect to see nothing but netdecks with slight tweaks to account for the lack of variation
