Once the Year of the Dragon begins, three expansions that have dominated the Standard metagame of the past two years will finally become Wild exclusive. Cards from the sets Journey to Un'Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throneand Kobolds & Catacombs have also defined the Wild metagame, especially Death Knights, Spellstones and Legendary Weapons.
On top of that, Genn Greymane and Baku the Mooneater will join the Hall of Fame one year early. These two cards have consistently featured within the highest tier decks in Wild as well as Standard. With their rotation, the chasm between Wild and Standard deck strategies will widen.
With so many popular and powerful cards becoming Wild-only, I want to ask if you will go with them and play more Wild. This game mode has always been less popular with the player base, so I'm interested to know if the number of Wild players is likely to increase and why!
I voted for "no but I will keep my old cards" because I already play Wild about a third of the time, but I'll likely play less for a while when the expansion rotates. I definitely won't play more at least for a month or two, then once I get tired of Standard, I'll play more Wild again.
Neither death knights nor spellstones have defined the wild metagame. I'm not sure what you're basing this on.
I don't mean every Death Knight or Spellstone - but I think some cards have. Bloodreaver Gul'dan and Lesser Amethyst Spellstone are key cards in cubelock, with the death knight also featuring in pretty much all Renolock decks.
Are you also forgetting Lesser Diamond Spellstone in Big Priest?? Key part of their strategy right there. Also Shadowreaper Anduin was the lynchpin that made Reno Priest so popular and deadly (perhaps an oversimplification, but hopefully you get my point).

Fair point about the priest ones. Renolock was already popular before the death knights and spellstones though. Cubelock is mostly a deck because of cube (what's in a name) and the demon cheating mechanics.

To the question at hand: I alraedy play wild and this likely isn't going to change as long as Big priest has reliant counters.
Frostlich Jaina and DK Guldan are op in Wild. (Resurrecting malganis voidlord and doomguard, scariest board after nzoth or equal) Valeera the Hollow and Hagatha are not bad too

Yeah you're right about cubelock there. Still, the swings from N'zoth and Bloodreaver Gul'dan are game-wining in a lot of cases.
In any case, my statement that they defined the metagame was perhaps a bit strong haha!
I have been playing quite some Wild this expansion.
When the rotation hits though, I'm hoping for a fresh meta simular to Old Gods and Un'Goro. Those we're incredible in my perspective. The game feeling fresh in Standard will probably mean I will play Standard exclusively for about a month, then continue my endeavors in Arena, for which I'm very excited about the new rotating expansions system they will be implementing.
Somewhere in the year when Standard gets ruined again by a dominating archetype or gets stale from playing it too much I will enter the Wild again. For me this is a natural cycle that is going on for some years now.
Always played wild, currently rank 9 now that the new season started. Way more diverse and fun being that you can use ALL the cards. Naxramus was so OP haha

Man, I hope that we revisit a meta that feels like Old Gods/Un'Goro! I will probably focus on Standard immediately after rotation, with a bit of Wild play just for experimentation before everyone goes back to playing Renolock/Big Priest/Even Shammy(!)

I'm sorry but what? The only relevant mage deck that runs Jaina is Reno mage and is tier 2 at best.
Valeera and Hagatha don't see any play whatsoever in wild.

I already play it a lot more than standard and the trend will continue

I'll play more Wild than Standard only to play with Astral Tiger and Tyrantus tbh

No I don’t play wild ever nor will I ever.

I just don’t care for seeing old broken cards in every match up. I like to play with new cards. If I Do play it it will be just to complete quest.
I play wild mostly right now. But after that rotation I may start to play standard more, because fuck Baku and DKs.
I already play and (somewhat) enjoy Wild. How much Baku & Genn effect the meta there may be enough to compel me to go back to Standard.
We shall see.
No dont want see Baku anymore.
