So we've all seen people call every strong deck in the meta "cancer" decks, and insult players who play those decks. I feel like people just throw this term around nonsensically. Why do we use this term? Is it because the decks are strong, or because they're prevalent? If it's a good deck, then of course people will play it because they want to win.
I really wonder if anyone's ever in the history of Hearthstone, ever been a strong meta deck that people maybe don't complain about as being "cancer" or some stupid things like that. A deck that's strong, but people are actually okay with its existence. Insulting every deck that's among the strongest currently in the meta is stupid because by means of comparison, there will always be decks that are better than others.

It doesn't matter how weak or strong a deck is in the grand scheme; if it's tier 1, it's better than the competition. There is no "fair" tier 1 deck because in order to be that good in Constructed, you need to be both consistent and a little bit broken. If your deck is more broken than whoever you're facing, they're going to be salty about it.
Well in fairness, the whole idea of a cancer is something that grows and spreads, and does so to the detriment of the rest of body (in this case the HS ladder). Any deck that has a major stake in the meta basically fits this description.
Fitting with this, a super strong deck that doesn't get played much (maybe it's too expensive for most players or it just hasn't been made popular yet) is not considered cancerous, while sub-50% win rate decks that still dominate the meta (e.g. Quest rogue back in Un'Goro) are.
Conclusion: "cancer" does not actually refer to the deck, but its prevalence in the meta.
Yeah. That's the case. There's right now no deck that is nearly as broken as Secret Paladin with Challenger, Pirate Warrior, Undertaker Hunter, Face Shaman with Doomhammer, Patron Warrior or Midrange Druid with FoN + Savage Roar combo.
Odd Paladin isn't even close to being broken. Way to easy to counter. Its funny ppl are so happy he's leaving standard.
Worst decks right now are IMO Gallery Priest and Odd Warrior but still not even close to gross Secret Paladin.
I never did mind even paladin when Call to Arms wasn't nerfed yet.
Same goes for Hunter last few months to be honest. Sure they were prevalent, but never annoying or unbeatable. ESPECIALLY when compared to decks like pre-nerf Razakus priest, Cube lock, Jade Druid, Midrange Shaman, Pirate Warrior etc...
Top decks in most card games will have something about them that feels unfair or broken. Good/fair decks don't win games consistently, you have to have some card or combination/set of cards that does something far stronger than anything else should be in order to win.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
Besides the obvious "people will call anything cancer" point that has been made before...
The only two decks I can recall that were S-tier were Midrange Shaman and Jade Druid. I suppose you can consider that "cancerous" since they were unquestionably the best decks in their respective formats, and it wasn't even very close.

I don't think Jade Druid was cancer, I just did not like the precedent that Jade Idol set, in that it was now okay for Blizzard to kill of fatigue as a legitimate endgame strategy. I remember that meta well, it was my first legend month.

Specifically, I mean Jade Druid right after UI was released, but before the Spreading Plague nerf. I don't think any deck is "cancer," but S-tier decks are generally not a good thing...which is why Plague was nerfed.

That's like saying "what's a 'thing' that people don't complain about.'
We're a large group of diverse people. We all have different tastes, preferences, and desires. Thus for every single thing there will be SOMEONE who likes it and SOMEONE that doesn't.
Meanwhile people who like something tend to not be motivated to talk a lot about it. They'd rather just play it.
People who dislike something WILL want to talk about it, wishing to seek support for something that makes them feel so negative.
Thus when Pirate Warrior was big, people who loved it just played it. People who hated it raged on the forums.
When Odd Warrior was big, the people who hated Pirate Warrior and liked Odd Warrior stopped complaining and played. The people who prefered Pirate Warrior stopped playing so much and took to complaining.
So no, there isn't a deck that 'people' didn't call cancer since the people who want to talk about it will be whichever group didn't like it.
Then there's the folks who have different priorities. For example, some people like variety. So when something is new they play and when things stagnate they complain.
So what you get is a new meta where some group dislikes the deck that goes on top, they rage about it, then after some time it becomes stale and brings others to complain about it. Then the meta shifts causing both groups to stop complaining, but a new group comes in to complain.. until that gets stale.
THEN add in the folks who grow tired of the game as a whole until they start complaining constantly since, really, they are done with the game as a whole, the folks who troll and join ing just to mess with folks, and you get the overall situation.
So yeah, so long as 'the people' refers to whoever is posting to the forum at the time, there will never be a deck that's 'not cancer'. Maybe if we were all playing co-operatively. No one complains about how broken characters are when it's in your favor, after all.
Pretty sure anyone who calls any deck cancer doesn't have a blanking clue as to what cancer is.
Glad someone else thinks this way actually. My wife is an End Of Life Specialist Nurse and some of the stories she's told me.... *shudders*
Anyway, any deck that is super good on the Ladder will be called this. As someone else noted earlier though, it's only been Midrange Face Shaman with the original Totem Golem and probably Pirate Warrior that fit the bill perfectly.

Many haven't been labeled as "cancer". Some decks definitely have been OP as why nerds came in to make them un-cancerous.

Patron Warrior was a hard deck to master and Tier 1. Probaly the best example I can think of off the top of my head.

Only t1 decks with some broken synergy and/or very high popularity.
We had/have plenty of t1 decks that are not recognized as cancer by the community.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
Pretty sure anyone who calls any deck cancer doesn't have a blanking clue as to what cancer is.
Im going to say yogg druid, or most cthun decks. But it all depends on the meta but people will forever complain
Also Exodia mage, but i dont think it ever made it to tier 1.
Mechathun decks are all cancer.
Priest Decks that resurrect a full row of minions from nowhere.
Warlock Hero upgrade which does the same thing.
Jaina upgrade
Rusty Recycler
Ironic. It could recycle others, but not itself.
And yet, it still got nerfed into the ground, presumably because of too many people calling it cancer
Legend with : S65 Freeze Mage, S57 Maly Gonk Druid, S57 "Okay" Shaman, S53 Boom-zooka Hunter, S53 Maly Tog Druid, S52 Wild Tog Druid ft.Blingtron, S50 Quest Rogue, S49 Dead Man's Warrior, S41 Wild Clown Fiesta Druid, S41 Hadronox Jade Druid, S40 Wild OTK Dragon Druid, S35 SMOrc Shaman, S33 Jade Druid, S22 Control Priest, S19 Control Priest

4/3/19 RIP Keith Flint. 😔
People hate losing and people hate things that are popular, mix those things and you have cancerous decks, to those people.
