A Treant is not a minion type. It is a token. Similar to how a Silver Hand Recruit is a token. Nightmare amalgam is not considered a silver hand recruit either.
As mentioned above, they are not a family in the same way Dragons, Elementals ect are.
Effects which synergize with Treants only work with minions whose name is exactly Treant. So that goes for the classic Treant and also the Witchwood Treant (same name, different artworks).
There are other cards like Volcanic Lumberer which is actually a Treant but doesn't gain any synergy.
Come to think of it, it's about time we had a new minion family...the last new one was Elemental in Un'goro.
Nightmare Amalgam
I want to do some things with it haha. :)

They should rework it to be 'all' basically triggering off any tribe-based effect now or ever added to the game.
Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
Not sure about this; however I don't understand why the ancients (lore, war, etc) aren't considered treants, personally.
What a great answer! Thank you so much Broken Cycle for the explanation...makes perfect sense. :)
I agree with that too Xynot! :)
It's minion type is already 'all', so it would apply, they only need to change text whenever they launch something new
Another Huffer
