Has anyone tried and/or had success with a Spiteful Mage? I’ve seen a few variants, and the most intriguing one is an Even Spiteful Mage.
I crafted the Spitefully Summoners for my priest and warrior, but perhaps it could also work in mage? I don’t have enough cards for Spiteful Druid, but I’m close for mage (just need a second Pyro).
I wouldn't try to go for Even or Odd mage, and especially considering Mage doesn't have any Even synergy, I would definitely not go down that path. Spiteful decks are supposed to be minion-based, and its extremely difficult to build an Even or Odd deck that curves out well, with the exceptions being Hunter (a low tier 2 deck) and obviously Paladin. Try it an elemental package, Tar Creeper, Fire Plume Phoenix, Bonfire Elemental, Frost Lich Jaina (if you have her) as well as Sunfury Protector and a Blizzard or two to counter the Paladins.
I made this deck because I had an elemental mage deck and extra summoners. I realized there is space for it and decided why not? and to my surprise it works pretty well. I managed to have a very nice curve with this deck to ensure you can use your mana to the max every turn. if you do not get spiteful on curve the elementals and their synergy are already strong enough tempo to get your opponent low until you get Jaina or either Pyroblast. Pyro has come in clutch so many times now. if spiteful fails to show up elementals deal enough damage and I usually finish them off with 10 damage out of nowhere. Baron Geddon can be easily replaced by any other elemental really it's just there to be cool. I would defenitely avoid running Book of Specters because the 50/50 chance is very much not worth it. It will make you lose the game so do not run the book. But a tyrantus on turn 6 makes your opponents concede half of the time. and if they decide to try their luck against it you can easily win the late game once you get Frost Lich Jaina out.
What does your curve look like in Even Mage besides the Summoners? You lose Mana Wurms, Arcanologist and Apprentice don't work in your deck, and there is a real cost to putting two Pyroblasts in your deck. Even if you only draw one you've basically skipped a draw step in a lot of matchups. Mage is a bit weak already and most of their good cards are spells or go well with spells, so besides the Blasts your deck would be mainly neutrals. Grand Archivist would be funny though.
I think we yelled at each other in another thread, I'm not here to bust your chops, just giving my input, you're free to ignore it fellow hearthstone player.
Spiteful mage seems most sucessful in a minion mage with book of specters and pyroblast
Book of spectres is too much of a liability, when it comes to spiteful summons you don't want the chance to low roll a 2 drop. If you need card generation maybe arugal?
I played it whole day yesterday. Doesnt really work that well (at least I dropped from Rank 3 to 5) because:
1. Mage's minions are bad compared to Spiteful Priest's and Druid's (like DuskbreakerDruid of the ScytheCrypt LordGreedy Sprite). Your class minions dont have taunt or rush, so you usually dont have the leading tempo; and even if you have, you lost it quite easily, especially to Paladin. No ramps or clears for exclusively for Spiteful Mages (unless you run Flamestrikes, then see reason 2.)
2. Mage high cost spells are good on its own but have bad synergy with either Spiteful Summoner (Flamestrike summon 7 drops and 7 drops have a lot of bad outcomes or understated, such as Memespire, 1/1 Pala Legendary; but if you put only Pyroblast, you cant make a comeback on board (see 1. above)) or Grand Archivist (Druids dont care if it hits their own side, since they get card draws and 5/5; Priests spells are always beneficial i.e. Mind Control,Amber; Mages' Pyroblast you definitely dont want to hit your side.)
However, I didn't run Elemental package in my Spiteful list. And TBH it looks like it might perform better for Spiteful Mages than typical list from other classes' Spiteful decks.
1)The best Barnes decks just had a few really big minions, but there were some good Barnes decks that had a bunch of minions. If you pulled Ysera, great. If you pulled a beetle, that's alright too.
So maybe Mage can't do what Druid and Priest do, but with a normal midrange Mage (1-2 pyroblast, 1-2 flamestrike, 1-2 blizzard, 2x polymorph, 2x Fireball), you still usually get big value out of Spiteful Summoner. Even pulling a 4-cost spell, you end up on average with 8/8 of stats for 6 mana. This also hedges against the possibility of drawing the pyroblasts before the spitefuls.
2) Just go aggro. Use book of specters, Arugal, Aluneth, and a bunch of little minions. Include Spitefuls and Pryoblasts. Pyroblast is a finishing card anyway.
I dont see how it could end up being that bad. spiteful summoner pulling 10 mana spells on curve wins games. period.
And then you just destroy that minion :) its on turn 6 dude...im not saying that everyone will have removal in hand by that turn but also they wont have spiteful shitt on turn 6 always..
Arugal without Book of Spectors seems like a waste. I saw Thijs had an even spiteful mage, so I wanted to give that a try. I have all the cards besides the 2x pyroblast, so I’ll give it a whirl and see how it goes.
I built a Spiteful Mage of my own with Elementals, taunts, and Alanna. I have to say it works pretty damn well. And I don't even have some of the excellent Elemental cards like Baron Geddon, Blazecaller, Arcane Tyrant...
Spiteful Mage with Book of Specters? lol ok........you want consistency, dont run Book. I'm at rank 3 and climbing with Spiteful Elemental Mage. It's literally the neutral list from Spiteful Druid with a couple of Mage cards thrown in. Spiteful decks are dumb and take skill of deckbuilding and in-game decision making and throw it all away.

Book of spectres would ruin the spiteful play

Whats the point of it being even though? 1-cost ping isn't good enough to justify taking away so many tools imo.

I played against an Arugal / Book of specters / Spiteful Summoner Minion based deck.
The Summoner pulled the book of specters twice in the game :)
