Quick question: Does a free Flamestrike from Inkmaster still result in another dragon being spawned by Dragoncaller? My gut reaction is that it doesn’t since Medivh’s weapon only summons a 0-cost off of the free spells but I’m not certain that it’s the case for sure. Anyone have some insight before I spend time testing?
Damn it haha ~ I haven't actually bothered to keep count while I've been playing Dragoncaller Alanna. Then again I do not have her in my reno decks but I will illustrate how current spell mechanics work and if Blizzard is consistent then the 0 mana Flamestrike will give you an additional dragon.
Atiesh spawns a minion by calculating the cost of the spell specifically at the time it was cast. So it is a reactionary effect to a single instance.
Skulking Geist destroys 1 cost spells using the original spell cost, indicating that his effect is an aoe aura ignoring discount effects.
If you look at Arcane Tyrant his effect also procs after calculating the base cost of a spell. Essentially, if you go Bloodbloom into Twisting Nether you can then play Arcane Tyrant for free. Since the spell cast works as an aura effect for that turn.
Working backwards and taking into consideration effects like those of Skulking Geist and Arcane Tyrant, Dragoncaller Alanna should spawn another dragon even if the spell cast was zero mana. The aura effect will look at the original cost.
As a result, as stated above, if Blizzard has been consistent with their cording you should get an extra dragon!

It shouldn't work, although I haven't tested it. Inkmaster changes the cost to 0. It's not a reduction or playing for free like an autocast. It actually becomes 0. I'd playtest it in unranked to make sure though.
Inkmaster renders every spell a 0-mana one. Dragoncaller reacts accordingly to that and doesn't count a discounted flamestrike.
Do you have any testing for that? Not trying to question your authority on it, I just want some form of confirmation other than an expectation of what should happen as there are some cards that interact a bit ambiguously (i.e. giants being discounted only after they're drawn, N'Zoth resurrecting minions that were silenced when they died).

Really interesting. I didn't know that's how Arcane Tyrant and Skulking Geist works! That actually adds credibility to the idea that this might provide a dragon. And in my limited testing, I seemed to be getting more dragons that I expected every time I played her. Mind you, I wasn't counting, but I'll try to keep a more detailed record.
I don't have Inkmaster so I just tested out with dragon's furry with Apperentice(it's 4 cost) the dragon when I played Alana after came out just fine so it probably works with Inkaster too
Good to see some confirmation with that! I'm glad to be proven wrong on this point as Dragoncaller has been a fun addition to my Reno mage in wild.

Anyone know the answer? I just don't want this thread to get buried.
good question, id like to know the answer too ..let me know!

I... I love him.
Just tested and unless I missed counting something along the way (I don't think I did), the Inkmaster'd spell counted as one of the dragons.
