Okay so my idea is that they add a couple of cards to the basic set called something like "Tech in" or whatever. Basically, a 1-mana spell that lets you discover a card from a pool of six cards that you chose to be your side board/ tech cards in deck building.
So in building your deck, if you choose to put in "tech in", you also get to choose these six cards that don't go into your deck, but can be discovered.
This opens up space to counter the meta or a specific archetype that you otherwise struggle against, by letting you bring super situational hate cards such as golakka crawler, eater of secrets, the black Knight, Harrison Jones, etc. in much the same way that a side board works in magic the gathering.
I like the idea. However, it's "too confusing for new players."
Yeah I thought so too, but I figure that by using the discover mechanic it would at least be somewhat familiar. But it would require a new button in the collection at minimum :p
This is a great idea. It adds another layer of complexity to the deckbuilding skills.
The only problem I see is the end of some hard-counterable decks: It might be too little of a drawback to your deck to have a Hungry Crab or a Sacrificial Pact on your sidebord, alongside other more "well-rounded" options, and always distroy some players without having to take the risk of puting that card on your actual deck. It was amazing when Toast pulled that off last week, but the guy had a "dead" card on any non-renolock machup.
Interesting idea. I think it would only be good if these "tech in" cards started in your opening hand every game, otherwise you'd just want to run the actual tech cards themselves.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.

I see your point. I'm not sure if there's a way to get around that. Still, the size of the sideboard limits it. If you choose four well-rounded cards, a sac pact and a crawler for your sideboard, the discover may not show the sac pact when you need it, since discover only gives three options out of the six cards you put in.
Also, you still have to draw your tech discovery card and pay a mana to use it...

Good idea/bad idea? Comments?
