I've been gone from the game for about a year and thought I'd start playing again. Got nearly a full classic collection, and most of the cards until WoG, which means I've missed the two newest sets of boosters. Do I need a lot of cards from this set? I mostly play midrange hunter, paladin, warlock, priest and mage. I've got about 20k dust, but I'd rather spend them on classic goldens.
Yeah I'd say buy some of each expansion to get the common cards worth having. Odds are very likely that in order to get the good rare cards from each set you need to spend dust. Which it looks like you have. I've dusted all of my golden cards so it looks like we have different priorities on how to spend dust but you could use that dust to get some good cards from each expansion. I'd also prioritize the cards from the newest expansion first since they will stick around in standard the longest I believe.
There are pretty good commons and rare in MSG, lots of discover cards as well so yeah, you should invest in it, there's more than half a year left of it

Thanks, I guess I'll invest some in MSG as well. Btw will all of the 3 current boosters rotate out in 2018?
how much do you plan to spend? my approach to the situation would be: look up a few decks on hearthpwn for classes you'd like to play. ask friends (or random people on the internet like me) which ones are good and fun to play. then decide how many basic and rare cards from each set you're probably gonna need in these decks you chose. based on that buy the packs from the different expansions (i could give you more precise tips once i know your budget). this should give you a decent amount of classic and rares. for select epics and legendarys you will definitely need to (re)invest some of your dust. for most decks you dont need more than 1-2 of the newest legendarys :) just certain key theme cards that fit more than one class (patches, finja,nzoth,...). oh and one more thing: do you want to play standard or wild? wild would probably be easier for you because most wild decks are at least 50% cards you already own ;)
the next rotation in early 2018 will send all 2016 expansions (wotg, karazhan, msg) to wild.
and i'll agree with the other posters, get karazhan. very useful cards and best cards for money value
looking at the msg expansion exclusively i can tell you that you'll probably only need a few neutral cards, as the msg faction themes (handbuff, kazakus, jade) are not played much anymore
so if the decks you want to play do only contain very few msg cards you could also consider spending all your money on ungoro packs and use the additionally gained dust to craft those select msg cards.

I was thinking of buying 60 packs of each, but maybe I'm better off with 120 Un'Goro packs, or just getting 60 Un'Goro packs and saving the rest. If all I need from MSG is a few commons and rares my money might be better of spent elsewhere, thanks for the advice.
I wouldnt buy MSOG packs right now personally. Theres probably only about 10-20 cards you really need so its probably more economical to just craft them when you need them.
You'd def want most the MSG cards for Priest. Mage ONK and if you want to play current secret mage a few from MSG. Hunter you can just craft Kindly Grandmother's and Alleycats if you want, commons. Pally is a bit meh, can craft the commons in MSG, the legend is alright but is definitely not the new Sunkeeper level. MSG was great for Renolock but now... If you want to do discolock need 2 of the ONK cards.
The best neutral legends for those classes are probably already ONK except for Kazakus: Medivh, Barnes, Curator.

Just buy a Old gods, then MSG pack, then Un'goro and then repeat. They are all changing expansions.
Also play the Karazhan prologue, it's free :)

II know it's off topic but how do I make one of these discussions?
Get Karazhan asap. Most of the cards are used right now.
Depending on which deck you wanna play (see decklists on the main page), check what are you missing from them and buy packs according to that.
