Hello, I think Battlegrounds is in dire need of a new faction to sustain variety in gameplay, so I have made up my own! A disclaimer before moving ahead, this is my first time posting on the forums, so some tweaks might need to be done to this post, anyways lets get into it!
Introducing the Naga, a faction that relies around sending out waves that will buff their fellowkin during, or prior to combat. This means that this new faction will introduce a new keyword - Wave. Some naga are adept in sea manipulations and are able to create Wavesthat will flow either to the left or right, depending on the starting point of it. Once a Wave hits the edge of the board, it will disappear. Minions that send out these Waves are not affected by it themselves unless the Wave is bouncedback into them.
An example of an early game minion that makes use of the Wave mechanic is the Sea Witch.
To properly utilize the Wave mechanic, players will need to position their units properly, and decide which Naga to gain the effects of the Waves. With proper positioning, a good naga player will have the ability to outscale their opponents.
With the introduction of a new faction, a new battlegrounds hero to revolve around summoning Naga were also created. Introducing the ruler of Nazjatar and Queen of the naga, Queen Azshara. Being transformed from a night elf into a naga, her hero power relies around using her dark affiliation with a certain Old God, to transform units into naga. Her battlegrounds buddy is none other than Bubblemancer Nancy, who will continously grow more powerful as she is struck by Waves.
Now, as with the other factions and races in the Battlegrounds, the naga set is supported by 15 cards.
Starting from Tavern Tier 1, the initial Naga has the potential to scale well into the mid-to-late game.
At Tavern tier 2, the Wave mechanic will slowly start being introduced by the two obtainable naga cards. Nagas are relatively weak on damage in the early game, but with the Nazjatar Scout players have to ability to provide all allies with a much needed damage boost.
Tavern Tier 3 is when a naga composition starts gaining key units to properly send out buffs for their board. The Naga Duelist and Coilfang Spearman introduce units that can help in picking off high health enemy units. The Naga Taskmasker provides more sustainability across the board to the team.
Moving into tavern tier 4, the Naga composition will start to receive units that support two playstyles. An "End of Turn" focused playstyle that relies on permanently buffing units prior to combat using Waves. And a second style that support sending outWaves during combat for a much higher, but temporary, buff.
Tavern tier 5 provides units that will cause you to shuffle your composition and position making decisions. Corrupted Seer supports both "End of Turn" and combat playstyles, the Naga Brute is a massive defensive unit that absorb Waves to scale rapidly, and the Nazjatar Wavemaster is used to further enhance the combat-buff playstyle.
Tavern tier 6 comes with a unit for each playstyle. Lady Vashj provide passive damage to random enemies each time she is hit by a Wave. To support a playstyle that allows for Nazjatar Wavemaster to be placed to her right, she was granted a Divine Shield to assist in survivability. Deep Sea Siren is the ultimate naga support unit, buffing the entire board (this might be the most unbalanced of the set, but I wanted a card whose Waves bounced without needing magic mirror).
That is the end of my custom created Battleground faction. Now I want you all to be fully aware that I created this in an afternoon without too much thought on balance. I did not create golden versions of the cards, so you get to imagine what their golden forms will be. Do note that some cards are better than initially inspected. The Magic Mirror, Corrupted Seer and Nazjatar Duelist are able to activate their effects during both the combat phase, and purchasing phase.
Thank you for taking your time reading through this, and please leave feedback below for changes you might want to make :)
Also, thanks to the artists who provided the art for the cards. The link to the pinterest where I used the art can be found in the spoiler below.
