So today, Blizzard did an interview with Hearthpwn about stuff that didn't make it into Kobolds & Catacombs. One thing that didn't make the cut that caught my attention was the original Rogue legendary weapon.
So, Dual Wield would've been a concept where your hero power is replaced with a second weapon. However this implementation is just awful and I'm glad they didn't do it. However, the idea for Dual Wieldable weapons was a really cool idea and lead me to create some new ideas, so here's what I came up with. Introducing, the new Dual Wield keyword!
So the way the Dual Wield keyword works is, weapons that have this keyword can be equipped together. Here's how it works: Dual Wield weapons can be equipped like regular weapons, but if you have a Dual Wield weapon equipped, then play another one, instead of destroying the equipped weapon, the new weapon instead replaces your Hero Power, and their attack values and card text are combined together, so when your hero attacks, it'll have both of the weapon's abilities activate at the same time. Now here's the kicker: When you attack, the first equipped Dual Wield weapon loses durability instead of both of them, so you'll have to plan carefully what order you equip your weapons. If your opponent plays Ooze, then the first equipped weapon is destroyed. Now one thing to note: Only weapons that have the Dual Wield keyword can be Dual Wielded. So you can't just play Stormforged Axe and then Doomhammer expecting to be an OP little shit. Also, weapon buffs only apply to the first equipped weapon as well, unless stated otherwise. Lastly, when the first Dual Wield weapon is destroyed, the second one will take it's place, and your Hero Power will return to you. (If your Hero Power was upgraded in anyway, the upgraded Hero Power will return)
So, to start, I've done what Blizzard does when they introduce new keywords from previous effects and new tribes, and I've given a lot of old cards the Dual Wield keyword.
Yeah. Now suddenly the Fiery War Axe nerf doesn't look too bad now. Now the keyword is primarily for Rogues and Warriors, however Shamans and Paladins will have a couple of their own Dual Wield cards as well. Now at the moment I'm making some new Dual Wield ideas and would love to see some of your ideas for the keyword. When I make new cards, I will update the OP and post them here. Here are the ideas I've come up with so far:
Bulwark is the first Dual Wield weapon that I came up with. I took the classic spiked Warrior shield and make it into card form. Thanks to the new keyword, new weapons can be added in the form of shields. Shields would have no attack, but have high durability and a unique card text. For example, Bulwark is a 5 mana 0 attack weapon, but has 10 durability! What it does is soak up any damage that your hero takes at the cost of durability, so imagine it as an Ice Barrier for Warriors. (The Dual Wield rule applies here, so if you have two Bulwarks equipped, only the first one loses durability.) One other thing to note, is if your hero takes excess damage, then the damage is factored into the weapon, and any remainer is taken to your hero. Example: Say a Mage casts Fireball at you. your Bulwark has 4 durability left. The weapon will break, and your hero will take two damage. See?
So originally I had the idea to buff the Rogue hero power to make it so the Wicked Daggers would have the Dual Wield keyword, however a fellow user explained to me how that would be OP as shit, and I agree. So instead, he suggested I make a Rogue spell instead for this ability, so I made Dual Wield Mastery. It replaces the old Dagger Mastery hero power with a new "Dual Wield Mastery" one, that has the same effect as the old hero power, only now the daggers have Dual Wield. So if you have one dagger equipped, then use your hero power, the Hero Power will become a second dagger. Now you have 2 attack to ping stuff with!
