This weeks theme comes from pui980178whose "Eavesdropper" was the winner of our "Triggered" competition.
Competition-Specific Restrictions:
This week is simple: Your card must simply reduce the cost of another card or cards permanently. Emperor Thaurissan and Fire Plume Harbinger are both great examples of this.
Cards like Sea Giant would not qualify, as it only reduces it's own cost. Same goes for Sorcerer's Apprentice, as it doesn't reduce costs permanently.
Competition Process
Preview Phase (Starts Now! Ends 20:00 UTC 27/May/2017) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme. Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts 20:00 UTC 27/April/2017, Ends 20:00 UTC 1/May/2017) During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like! Voting Phase (Starts 20:00 UTC 1/May/2017, Ends 20:00 UTC 2/May/2017) During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites! Final Phase (Starts 20:00 UTC 2/May/2017, Ends 20:00 UTC 3/May/2017) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!
Discussion Topic Rules
To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.
So, without further ado, have fun and get creating!
Working on art, but thoughts on design? Trying to help make Paladin quest (i.e., paladin buff cards) playable. Would also enable some OTK combos with Blessed Champion. Side note, this would be auto include in Paladin meme decks, since it would allow you to play hemet and wrath on T10 or two wraths on T7 after playing hemet T6.
This week is extremely strict. Maybe to such a point that it is unhealthy.
This card might seem very weak initially, but allows you to do some CRAZY combos with Tundra Rhino and make hunter able to be miracle like with Starving Buzzard.
And yeah. I do understand this might not be too exiciting.
This theme makes me think of the chronomancy cards I made awhile ago. Maybe something like this:
The art is kinda blurry, but the idea makes up for it.
It might be too strong? Getting a 2 mana discount on anything is really powerful, and it also allows for planning the next turn. Despite it having almost premium stats.
Don't get me wrong. Its a great idea. I expected every single card to just be a Shadowstep mechanic copy, or something that just reduces something in your hand. This stands out. And the flavor of the Bronze dragons is a Bullseye flavorwise.
I believe you should probaly not be able to both look at the card and reduce it, for next to no penalty statwise.
First idea. Could be used with the Warlock quest, or a reduction to a large hand in a handlock style deck.
As for feedback:
General Tao: There's an awful lot going on here. Taunt gives it synergy with the quest, as well as immediately making it better than Lord of the Arena. Returning the weapon to hand is a nice idea, but playing this on a Gorehowlresets the attack, and makes it 4 cost in hand. My first idea for balancing would be to remove the cost reduction, but obviously that's the point of the week. Personally I would decrease the reduction to 2, and drop the taunt.
Shady Shopkeeper: Nice idea, but I question it being a pirate. When did pirates start keeping shop? Other than that, I like it.
Bronze Drake: The mechanics of reducing the cost of cards in the deck has been shown with Thing from Below and Kabal Crystal Runner. However, I don't see why it needs to have the look element. I could understand either "Reduce the cost of the next card you draw by 2" or Reveal the top card of your deck. It costs two less. As it is, you lose 1 stat to gain a 2 mana cost reduction AND the ability to plan your next turn in advance. Maybe even bump the mana to 6 and draw the card?

One of the issues I had when making these effects before is that people thought they were too slow, which is why I made it like this. And Far Sight has a 3 mana discount right away and no one uses it. Although maybe the argument is that it would be really good attached to a body?
Just an idea I was floating after I saw the prompt for this week. I don't think it's that great, so I'll probably end up ditching it - both because it feels kinda eh considering rogue's current quest, and because the mana cost and stats never seem to feel right for an effect like this.
Regardless, the idea with this card is that every time you play it, it becomes cheaper the next time. This works alongside cards like mimic pod and thistle tea, as well as with bounce effects, or even gang-up. Shadowcasted copies will always cost 0 as a result of this effect.
Here's my initial thought for the week. I agree this is a very strict prompt so it will be interesting to see how people manage to find something unique within it.
Don't love the art or name, but curious what people think of the mechanic.
General Tao: In a quest deck, if you have a ping left on Sulfuras, you could hero power, play this, play Sulfuras again, and hero power a second time all in one turn. Seems kind of broken. I would at least drop the reduction to 2, maybe also change stats to 4/5 if you're going to keep taunt.

Well... Far Sight was played in Malygos Shaman. Which means it was not a terrible card.
And Far Sight pays 2.5 mana for its mana reduction. Your pays 0.5. And its not even a Class card.
A better comparison would probaly be Primordial Glyph, and it pays 1 mana for its reduction. And that card is an autoinclude in more or less, every single Mage deck. And the card that is reduced is although not controlled, but a card that you chose to include in your deck.
Increasing its mana cost by 1, and giving it 4 attack, would be the closest thing that i could see that would be balanced without destroying the card.
You could also make it reveal it to the opponent too.

I want a new title, but Flux won't let me have one,
Useful for Combo Rogues, Miracle Rogues, and yes... Quest Rogue as well don't decapitate me pls lol.
This doesn't work, because you aren't allowed to reduce the cost of the card itself. It has to reduce the cost of other cards.
I thought the rules said it couldn't reduce its own cost? This doesn't it reduces duplicates. Its not like it will reduce itself by sitting in your hand, you have to play it first, which in turn reduces future copies of it. That counts doesn't it?

A "Costs X less for Y" effect counts as self-reducing as it is it's own card text that reduces the cost.
Also, it looks very similar to my card, which I think dodges the "can't reduce it's own cost" rule? But it might not, so I should probably think of something else as well.

My first thought. Not what I'll submit. Yes I know it's Moroes, but the art is perfect.
@LittleOrgeHearthstone That's a clever idea. I like it.
