I have lost 90% of games vs shaman and they are the main reason why I'm hitting a wall on ladder. They just seem to have so much stuff, and taunt totems prevent me from using my weapons to clear stuff out.
"TGT Shaman" is just a horrible matchup for Control Warrior imo. They were already a pain in the ass for CW before this exp, and now they got more stuff to ruin your early game. You need a perfect starting hand, and depending on the totems they get it may not be enough, cause you need to "waste" a lot of hard removal on their early crapload of minions, and Totem Golem is really hard to deal with as a CW (you get forced to use your Execute on their early game stuff, or take a lot of damage). Sometimes resisting until Brawl may save you, but if you're under heavy pressure you'll probably get behind anyway. In general, these days Shamans and Control Priests are my worst nightmares (regarding Priests, it tends to be a RNG problem, they always steal key cards to destroy me late game :D).
It's a tough matchup. You can improve your win ratio against them by adding double brawl or mc tech. Baron Geddon is useful as well because he usually clears most of his board - especially with whirlwind effect. Bash helps with clearing their Flametongue Totem if it's behind taunt totem or you dont draw a weapon.
I played against them 5 times today and i won every single match without a huge problems. It was pretty surprising for me but i guess double brawl + mc tech are the key. It seems that a new shaman version with a lot of totem buffs is not so hard as traditional greedy control shaman.
On the other hand - it really depends how many taunt totems they create and how effective you can clear their board.
If you can not beat them, JOIN them! kappa. Or just try their decks for a few days to get to know them, then you will know what's best to do in this match up
Thanks for all the helpful replies, I'll try to tech in more brawl and mc-tech to counter them. It's just so soul-crushing, I just lost a match against a total baddie shaman. He made inefficient trades multiple times in game, made several mistakes, and I still lost in the end because his board was flooded with totems with 2 thunderbluff valiants.
I must have a terrible list...I only have a 50% win percentage against control warrior. Brawls are absolutely devastating and any board presence you can muster is pretty helpful.
I run double Brawl and baron geddon and it seems to do the trick, you cant always stop a perfect start but if you curve out amazingly is game over too.
