I've been enjoying Control Warrior lately, and I've been wondering if it's wiser for me (in general) to craft Alexstrasza or Cairne Bloodhoof first for this and most other decks (Nuba's latest build shown below):
I'm currently missing those two and Sylvanas Windrunner from this list (I have higher priority crafting Sylvanas first, which is why she's not included in the poll). I'm leaning more towards Alexstrasza rather than Cairne Bloodhoof for the more unique effect, but Cairne is also not a card to not be underestimated.
My current replacements for these legendaries are as followed:
Cairne Bloodhoof > Sunwalker: Same story as the Sylvanas replacement. (Just replace the "her" with "his." xD)
Alexstrasza > Ysera: I just happen to own Ysera and know that she works relatively well in the deck after seeing her in some competitive builds. Not sure how much better Alex is, which is why I'm wondering if Cairne would be wiser to craft first or not in comparison. :]
~ Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help out!
I rock Cairne because of the synergy with brawl and huge capacity to take damage and absorb whirlwinds/geddon/board clear as well as to generate armour in the process.
Also for control warrior I feel alex is useful only if you're already winning, sure you have the two turn play with grom but if you get to that point you should win regardless. I play it a lot and rock ysera at 9 if I even bother (especially with a faceless manipulator floating round).
If you're talking about crafting one of those cards - DEFINITELY go Cairne, you will get way more use out of it as it fits in with heaps of decks. Alex is a great card but much more situational.
PS if you're running gorehowl try running upgrade! it can give you an 8 dmg followed by 7dmg face attack and also adds huge value to fiery war axe. Also I'd go Loatheb over azure drake any day of the week, you don't need spell damage with control warrior.

Thanks for the super useful reply! I've noticed Nuba (as a deckbuilder) seems reluctant to put Loatheb in his decks for whatever reason (which I do respect as he does make great lists), but I also think he's a lot more appropriate in the deck than the single Azure Drake.
As for the craft order you specified, I think you convinced me to go Cairne Bloodhoof before Alexstrasza. Getting that huge tempo on turn 6 is a lot more important to the game's outcome compared to on turn 9+ in the form of Alex, whom Ysera plays a similar role at the time anyways. Also, the greater versatility of Cairne makes him a lot more valuable in a wider range of decks.
Glad I could be of assistance! I play control warrior all the time, it's pretty much the most powerful deck around it's just getting the cards to play it is the hard bit.
Loatheb is an absolute beast of a card, especially in control decks as it usually nullifies hard removal and board clears for a turn while providing a big body on the board. Mages hate it and I hate mages so it's ok in my book.
Both cards are great for control warrior, no doubt. But I would go with Alexstrasza for sure. It can be situational, but there's plenty of situations that arise, and just knowing it's in your deck changes the way you can play. It saves your ass plenty of times when used defensively, and wins games that way against out-of-steam opponents... Or allows you to just board control all game and then nuke your opponent to 15 later on, which happens A LOT.
I can't argue with the tempo that Cairne provides on turn 6, and can't imagine running the deck optimally without him... But if I had to use only one of the two cards you're pondering, Alex wins me more games I think.
Not trying to make your decision any harder, just thought I'd sound in. Looks like you have a good grasp of how to play this type of deck, so you should win plenty of games using either card!

I definitely see justification to crafting Alex first, but I feel Cairne Bloodhoof will be more useful for me initially as I'll be able to play him in more decks. While Cairne can go in nearly any Midrange or Control deck, Alex only fits in very specific Control decks such as Freeze mage, Control Warrior, and some niche Miracle Rogue builds.
Great point, PhCraft. I had been thinking purely in context of control warrior, and hadn't thought about card usage across multiple decks. I actually crafted Cairne first for the reasons you just stated. Though I absolutely love Freeze Mage and Control Warrior, so Alex wasn't too far behind in my crafted legendaries. ;)
