I'd heard a lot of things recently about Pirate Warrior. Some good, most bad. And of the bad, most that it is annoying to try and beat.
So I thought I would give playing it a try, since I've been playing recently for the last couple of weeks and surprised not to face off against one yet. I hold my hands up and admit, I netdecked for this (I very rarely ever do that, but I was interested to see what this deck was like and didn't fancy all the trial and error of building it from scratch).
And I can kind of see why people like playing it, in fairness. It has a lot, and I mean, a LOT of satisfaction factor when you can pull off that damage combo out of the blue.
And I can also see why people would hate playing against it as well, to be honest. It's like a dirty pleasure. XD
We are probably similar, I held off on joining the pirate cancer and just played my "typical fair" decks. Took me the entirety of last month to get from Rank 20 to Rank 10. Then I decided to try Pirate this month. Went from Rank 20 to Rank 8 in 2 days. :-( I also feel like a bad person, but I feel like a worse person because I play the Wild version with Ship's Cannon.
How is it possible to play for weeks and not face a single pirate warrior? I'm facing something like 15% pirate warrior on ladder.
I played it to rank 5 at the start of MSoG but got bored of it really fast, I usually never play aggro for that exact reason.
I dunno. RNG I guess? I play a lot in Wild actually - so maybe all the PWs are sticking it out in Standard? That might account for it at least partially.
The weapons aren't the problem at all. It's the cheap and effecient buff cards and Small-Time Buccaneer that are the culprits.
I dunno about STB. I mean, it's definitely a strong card, but not really that much more than some other similar ones such as Mana Wyrm, that Secrets chick, etc. Though that's just my opinion, of course.
In fairness, from my experiments with this deck, I have to say that the biggest problem I have found with it (in terms of OP strength) is the combination of the Arcanite Reaper and then the next turn 2 x Heroic Strike.

It depends on how you look at it. In a vaccuum? It's probably not stronger, no. Taking into account that it's most of the time a flame imp with no drawback that summons a Stonetusk Boar, it's for sure stronger. But it's not the weapons themselves that are the problem, it's the overall insane synergy. Personally I don't think pirate decks are necessarily OP, I'm just against the fact that they are an auto-include in every single aggro and midrange deck for weapon classes.

Ohhh, you mean with that legendary little pirate that auto summons? Ok, sure - though I think that could be the case with a couple of 1-drop pirates, too of course. maybe that guy needs to be changed perhaps. (I forget his name)
Yeah, I would agree that the synergy is very strong in the deck overall.
The only real problem here is Team5's approach to the game. It's unbelievable how they still haven't learnt that 1mana drops should be weak, not stronger than most 4mana+ cards.
What combo? And how is that satisfying? If you know that it's a deck that requires no skill or even brain (literally, bot can play it like a pro)... it's not any achievement at all, even if you make Legend you know it has nothing to do with your ability to play well, nor you had to think about what you do at all... cards play themselves (now with Patches even literally), it's too straight forward and it's the same as you'd click randomly with mouse while PC is turned off.
What form of satisfaction or fun do you feel is beyond me... I don't even mean this as an offense I just find it unbelievable that human being feels enjoyment while just clicking on one spot on screen just like that without.. meaning. Isn't it better to go watch a movie than to play such a game?
Anyways, I'm personally thankful for people playing this, I farm you a lot and it's basically instant win... didn't play much this season tho, Rank 3 Wild, Rank 5 Standard, but I think will be double Legend this season ONLY thanks to so many Pirate Warriors. So from me you have a big thank you! But really, just go play another game instead, I'm sure you'll have more satisfaction than "when you can pull off that damage combo out of the blue".
*blink* *blink*
Ok, sailor.... :-)
Out of interest, if it's a deck that anyone can play like a pro and can beat anything easily... how do you manage to farm them with a "basically instant win"? But not to worry. If you're farming me so easily, you must be getting much gold. I'm happy to be of some help. :-)
In terms of combo, I was referring to the : Heroic Strike + Mortal Strike + Mortal Strike (+ Arc Reaper) combo, for 21 damage in one turn. That's the satisfying combo, made more so when you have an empty board against a row of your opponent's minions and they are a turn away from lethal. That was remarkably satisfying when I pulled that off today, to be honest.
I'm surprised you want me to go and play another game when I (and other pirate warriors) am so obviously helping you get the only wins you appear to be able to get right now. :-/

It actually is, as surprising as it may seem. For example, since MSoG released, I've faced Pirate Warrior less than 20 times (and I play at least 3 ladder games a day). Srsly, Casual mode included. And on the other hand, climbing this month is Dragon Priest fest. From rank 11 to rank 8 it was around 80% DP (I often play on my phone, so I don't track stats), with some Shamans, Miracle Rogues and 3x Pirate Warrior. So it might just be local meta, who knows?
I normally don't play my pirate warrior or shaman decks that much, but lately I've been falling back on them when I start getting really salty about losing to top end decks, especially in casual. I guess my attitude has become "ok, you all want to play your tier 1 or 2 decks, then I'll play mine too".
And personally, I get a great deal of satisfaction out of stomping any reno or jade druid deck into the ground on turn 4-5 before they've had a chance to use Reno or start putting out a ton of overpowered jade golems. Sorry, but as far as I'm concerned Reno or Jade druid decks are just as bad as any pirate deck-the only difference is that they beat you late in the game after forcing you to exhaust all your resources rather than getting it over with quickly. If you don't want to people to play pirates, try playing a deck that something other than pirates has at least an even chance to beat.

I didn't say it can beat anything easily, don't put words in my mouth, I just said it takes no skill to be played like a pro plays it, cos it doesn't take any skill at all. Automatic brainless clicking on face with occasional forced trades (taunt or extreme value like idk 1/1 into 4/1 for example). But if it's fun to you or to anyone else whatever... just shared my thoughts in a thread about it.
As for the only wins, I said that I climb that much only thanks to pirate warriors, not that I win only vs them. I'd climb without them as well but they make me fly trough the ladder with ease, in Wild especially cos of Belchers and such, but in Standard there are couple of decent decks that counter it as well.
Not sure if it's worse to play Face Warrior and having "remarkably satisfying" moments while at it or writing OK, Sailor :) at the beginning and #MixedMessages at the end of the post.
Shame you feel the need to be salty about it. It's just a deck of cards in a card game. You need to find something you enjoy yourself and not be so upset that others find their own things to enjoy.
I strongly agree with this. It's a game, I never understood why people get upset about it. You know the rules of the game, and you play it, win or lose.

I find playing with it as boring as against it. What is the fun of a card game if it is not interactive?

That's 13 damage for 4 mana. Yikes!
Throw in a Mortal Strike or 2 to finish the job.

I'm a little surprised we've not started seeing more anti-weapon minions added so far (like the Ooze chappy).
The only real problem here is Team5's approach to the game. It's unbelievable how they still haven't learnt that 1mana drops should be weak, not stronger than most 4mana+ cards.
Patches the Pirate, yes. That would be the case with the other 1-drop pirates, but the rest are 1-health minions, they are far easier to remove.
Some people get satisfaction from winning, not so unbelievable to think about.

While I have nothing against the deck, all the satisfaction I had was with the patches animation... and that lasted for, what? 5 games?
Playing it quickly becomes a chore rather than fun, for me at least.
Also, don't apologise for netdecking, don't apologize for playing whatever the hell you want, let the salty guys do their thing and move on.
I've no clue what I'm doing...
