Lol I play a version with only 4 legendaries being lord godfrey, zilliax, bloodmage and mechathun. I'll include my list.. standard budget version hehe..
To answer your question.. no I highly doubt it can get you to rank 5 or less. In wild I played RenoLock last month to rank 6, then found it difficult to get any farther without investing a ton of time whixh I didnt have.
I've played #9 Legend on the second last day in December and he was on a Mechathun Control-lock. It's definitely a viable win condition against slow decks. Against fast decks it has all the regular WL anti aggro tools; this guy even ran two Golakka Crawlers because Odd and Pirate Kingsbane are popular decks in Legend.
In order to play a Mecha'thun deck you first and foremost need draw.
Depends on the opponent. Heropowering into an eventual Mecha'thun represents a win condition against other slow decks that just takes three cards. No need to build an all in combo deck with Novice Engineer and Hemet, especially if most opponents play aggro anyways. Btw a demon package with Sense Demons + Voidcallers + Voidlords also thins the deck and is great to stall at the same time.
So here's a question: Is it wrong to always just keep Bloodreaver in your opening hand? I find myself just always wishing I had this card if I don't. Even though it's a 10-drop, It's so good against aggro if you can stay alive long enough to play it on curve.

I think you can safely mulligan br guldan because you have tons of draw in this deck and you will surely get him by turn 10... very little chance that you dont... you should focus on survival more then your turn 10 play...

To live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffer!
So the speed version with Hemet and without DK and other fancy stuff brought me to rank 2 so far in wild and a friend who had more time to play used it from rank 1 to legend.
I think it is a very solid deck in the current meta.
edit: Now that I uploaded the list I realised it is actually quite fancy and dust intense, lol sorry.
Warlock is probably the best class for Mecha'thun at the moment. Its quite popular at 3 digit legend and there are a couple of builds (control version with Gul'Dan and Voidlords and turbo version with a lot of draw power and cheap minions). VS will probably have the most up to date lists later on today when the report comes out.
Okay so the Mecha'Thun list I posted here actually did a lot for me to get legend in wild again with 237 games total and 59% of it was the mentioned deck.
Mostly because you find many shamans in wild and this deck just eats them alive:
The deck is efficient I won't say that. You can play the combo so early on due to your hand not being accounted for by Cataclysm into the whole thing.
If you manage your mana well you can accurately draw in the combo by turn 10 to 14 in most games. You're a dead duck in some of them. It's a really fun deck, the meta has shifted towards a more midrangy aggression recently with the bat of nerfs. Controls are out of there with Paladin not being meta anymore in the OTK slot. Priests have fallen. Hunter is still there. Warrior, Mage and Warlock aren't in bad shapes. I feel shaman got touched at their early core with Flametongue.
I made it to rank 5 with this deck on the second day of the season. Actually, I’ve made it to rank 5 with Mecha’thun every season since it’s release. Currently though it’s not a great deck to run. You our worst matchups are mage unless they’re the big spell. You have little to no chance against odd. Second worst are all priests but especially otk. Followed by that is hunter. WR against hunter is around 45%. Even warlock slaughters you too and now they’re t Ching in anti combo. Every class after that it’s 50/50 or better by now Howe first 3 classes make up most of the meta.

I like to make cards and discuss game balance.
I enjoy when "No similar decks were found."

Dog made Rank 1 Legend with it.
I have a lot of success with my decklist. From rank 10* to 4*** with a 27w9l record.
HF & GG
It's definitely viable, I've ran into a couple in standard around rank 2.
