People always cry nerf over some card or another. They coin hideous terms like "cancer decks" (I personally want to punch any user of that phrase in the face.) Then they go online and post silly forum threads like "dark pact is simply ridiculous" at 0100 after a couple of beers but..
COME ON!!
It's like the dirty secret no one is talking about. It's the warlock wet dream. The spaf shot you didn't pause in time not to see. Dark Pact is a ridiculous card and i want answers.
Cubelock is the new Jade druid and i hope you all feel ashamed of yourself for playing it.
But the problem is NOT Dark Pact. It's simply Doomguard. This card should have been nerfed LONG time ago. It would not take much: simply change it to Battlecry: Discard two random cards, gain Charge.
It should only have charge when you discarded 2 cards.

thats by far the best nerf for the card I've ever read
Many decks currently counter Cubelock, including; Control Lock, Aggro Pally, Murloc Pally, Burn Mage, Big Priest (If it highrolls), and to a lesser extent Mill/Kingsbane Rogue. Even with Dark Pact the deck is far from unstoppable.

the real counter is spiteful priest btw
I am probably just under 50% hunter against cube, but you have to really curve out nicely or get some nice topdecks. 5-7 dmg to kill over Voidwall does feel pretty amazing.
I like warlock, but also would love to see Doom get charge with a battlecry
I agree that you need to post the deck you're playing with so that we can see just how bad you're not teching against it. I think right now Polymorph and control are good counters.
Another person blaming a deck for all his trouble. If this was back in day aggro shaman, jade druid, or even pre-nerf Raza priest. But a mid-pack deck, that has counter decks, and half a dozen decks it loses to in heated battles.
Too many people jumped on the fairy tale about cubelock becoming the teir 0 deck, because it has not been Nerf.
Get it through your thick 💀..... Not broken, not Op, barely above average deck.
Every card is balance, bad cards by themselves only become good to great with support, like any other combo in this game.
Not ashamed, fun challenging deck to play or play against.
I will agree that Dark Pact can be a problem, and almost all of the other cheap problem spells such as Execute and Rockbiter Weapon were nerfed to 2 mana, (Which I think would be a fair nerf to Dark Pact), but, as others have said, Cubelock isn't even the top deck in the meta right now, with many viable counters. While there may be a need to nerf the card in the future, if the deck gets out of hand, that is to be foreseen. Right now I don't think there are any cards barring Call to Arms that severely need a nerf at the moment.
I was stuck at rank 7 to 10, for days, all because of priest,..... Did you hear me complaining about spiteful, or inner fire. No.
I just switched tactics, and targeted the decks that dominated me. I played a deck that has been a priest nemesis for a while, and by doing so charge down to rank 5 with like 7 priest victories in a row.
So instead of complaining about cubelock, find it's hated rival and target them.
But remember in this Meta, you are counter by a deck no matter what you play.
I don't usually agree with many nerf ideas, but I do think a card that, for only 1 mana, heals you for 8 AND activates deathrattles for you, seems a bit high on the value scale. I know the Doomguard whining is at an all-time high after, what, 4 years of play, and I get why, but it's not the card itself that's a problem, it's the new deck - they simply have made it too easy to cheat cards onto the board. I think if you can fix the Lackey somehow, then most Cubelock problems are solved with an Ooze. If that occurs, then I don't think anyone will even much care about Dark Pact anymore.

This make SO much sense that I can't help but treat it as a litmus test for Blizzard's performance. If this exact nerf doesn't happen I'll honestly lose a lot of faith.
Fair points but I didn't latch on to that idea so strongly by taking into account the larger problem of Cubelock. There are pros and cons to lots of nerf ideas, but this one stood out to me because it seems to be a distinct flaw, or "miss" on the mechanics. They failed to bind the charge ability with the penalty and bundle them both in the Battlecry. Yeah, they probably wanted it that way in the beginning and knew there would be ways to cheat it out that would make it very powerful. But years -- and charge-focused nerfs -- later, it's a problem.
I don't know, I guess I've just never seen a nerf this elegant -- something so logical and faithful to core mechanics it almost feels like a bug-fix instead of a nerf.
Sadly the nerf will probably never happen, but still: gaining charge with the battlecry would not even require to discard cards. Doomguard would get charge when you play him, not by special summoning him. Discarding 2 cards should be the case, but when the hand is empty (as it is in zoo), then you don't discard any cards and still get charge.
And no, Carnivorous Cube should NOT get nerfed, simply because Doomguard was a problematic card always when you special summon him. See Voidcaller. It was strong back then and even now in Wild Cubelock is so strong because you can special summon him from a Voidcaller and have a Doomguard that early.
Carnivorous Cube is absolutely OK in all other cube-decks, but insane in Cubelock. Why? Because Warlock is insane because of Doomguard.

Please don't tell my girlfriend about my card collection...

And like Jade Druid, it's also countered quite well by Skulking Geist.

All these nerf threads need to stop. There is no such thing as an OP card.
