I think Tainted Zealot is actually better. Zealot has better survivability and drawing 1 card in warlock is mostly irrelevant. Plus Defile combo would more likely wipe the whole board. Since it goes 2 -> 4 -> 5 -> 6, etc.
It was played in handlock when soulfire was 0 mana. It is definitely worth picking now, lots of synergy. Plus a card draw it provides is quite nice in handlock.

Oh wow, that's a great suggestion! I'll have to test which is better: a lot more damage from Defile, or drawing a card. Probably the damage honestly.
In all of my theorycrafting for control warlock decks in both Standard and Wild, it seems that Bloodmage Thalnos is now going to be fantastic. Defile, Demonwrath, Hellfire, Bane of Doom, Mortal Coil, Darkbomb, Shadow Bolt, and Drain Soul ALL benefit from Spell Damage and most control warlocks will run most, if not all, of these cards.
Do you guys also think that the addition of Defile and Drain Soul pushed Thalnos over the edge into being great in Warlock?
I think so, with Thalnos and Defile you almost certainly get a boardclear for 4 mana.
