Would shaman be overpowered if instead of cards having overload, the card would have an option, similar to druid wrath/druid of the claw/etc to either:
pay additional cost for the card immediatly
lock crystals for next turn
I had the idea in a game where I had to lightning bolt a druid's aspirant on turn 2, but had 1 floating mana remaining. Had I had an option to pay 2 mana to deal 3 damage, it would allow me to have enough mana to coin a shredder the next turn. Instead, I lock a mana crystal and float 1 mana, and he innervates out a druid of the claw on 4 and I'm sad.
It's one option, but it still just pushes mana crystals around and doesn't do anything interesting.
Better would be if a card had a basic effect and an optional overload effect. That way, you have tactical flexibility - is the weaker effect enough now? Do you need the full power?
For example, Doomhammer could start with 4 durability, with the option Overload (2): Gain 4 durability.
Neptulon: Add 2 random Murlocs to your hand. Overload (3): Add 4 instead.
