I think so - I sometimes play murloc warlock and honestly for most of the good games you don't use your hero power that much. The shaman cards like rockbiter, windfury, bloodlust and flametongue goes better with murlocs.
Totems are pretty useless tho, they take up a spot on the board which might cap you out at 7 and healing and spell power totem are 100% useless

I disagree, they are great for taunt, healing for favorable trades and a body on board for the Bloodlust.
Can you craft the Murloc Warleader? Without it I don't think you can play a murloc deck. Old Murk-Eye is a pretty hard card to replace too but you could go with an Argent Commander or Reckless Rocketeer though if drawn early those cards are just dead in the water.
As for viability, I played a few games at rank 6 and won exactly 50% of them. I do think a lot of the wins were due to surprise factor as most people expect shaman to play a slower tempo control deck. 10 wins and 10 losses. 50% isn't half bad, I imagine this deck doing well early on in the ladder.
I have never once tried to make a murloc deck and, no offense to all you murloc warriors out there (I know your powers and skills) I would not waste the dust on any murloc card. They have never been my interest for serious play, but to you folks that like'em, keep it up. It struck my fancy to try a murloc Shaman since Shaman is my favs. LOL!

This was just a fun deck I drew up and I agree that it is not seriously competetive, if you're gonna run Murloc, Warlock is the best way to go about it. Generally speaking, you're using Leeroy Jenkins as a finisher, as such, Reckless Rocketeer would be a bit better to push through that extra 2 damage (w/ windfury).
Murloc decks are fun; I wouldn't spend crazy dust for it but they can be hit or miss; still, fun :) I think Shaman is a good choice; unexpected and frankly I mean better than some other choices. I mean face a lot of anti-aggro these days so 50/50 ain't bad at that rank.
Good idea there, I never thought of putting stronger late game minions there - just went with the face idea but I suppose buffing murlocs and protecting them works...
Murlocs can survive Equality pyromancer if there is a warleader in play. Murlocs can survive Equality consecrate if there is two war leaders in play. Its the same mechanic as stormwind.
But anyway, In my experience the best way to play murlocs is to keep mixing it up. Big creatures really do help, and so does having a lot of spell damage. The key reason being it denies them an defences. The difference between my shaman deck and yours for example, is that with my deck they cannot hide behind taunts (due to silence+spell damage), and they cannot rely on their AOE because the big guys will just sit there and take it.
I'm not saying my deck is better, (if I were to test it I would probably find several flaws...card draw looks like an issue, for example.) But nonetheless, you can clearly see that there are numerous different ways to approach building Murloc decks.
If you try this style of play, let me know how you get on :)
I am working on a rogue deck at the moment but I'll make some edits to this deck and repost shortly.

This is why I feel Warlocks make a stronger Murloc deck...
So I drew up a murloc shaman deck.. yes.. a shaman. I figured I'd try and make an aggro shaman ... what do you guys think?

What would you substitute for Old Murk-Eye if you didn't have him? I'm not sure if I have Murloc Warleader either. Maybe Raid Leader to buff the field?

I'm not sure if I have any Murloc Warleaders or not since I can't check until I get home. But yeah, it would have to be an Argent Commander for Old Murk-Eye.

As for surviving AoE... nothing survives my AoE... except when I Wild Pyromancer Equality with a Stormwind Champion on board LOL
