So basically we're going to have one legendary card less compared to other classes and not that we got any other op card to make up for this. On the contrary...
I mean, it's a good thing, right? When a brainless highroller deck gets thashed + the Legendary Totem was mostly a meme card anyways (was kind of slow for the super aggro tempo shaman)
It's not about that. It's about the fact that shaman has a legendary that ONLY WORKS in this archetype and it's going to be a useless legendary spot in the card collection now
Totem shammy definitely didn't get any help from class cards for this coming expansion. I'll leave it to the big brain deck builders to see if a miracle totem deck can occur with the neutral cards we are getting.
Throw in Tour Guide and some spells and you could still have a deck.
Even before rotation, (as in, right now) this deck was not great. Maybe in the mini set before eys'or rotates out next-next year they will give totem shaman a little love. :P

I mean, it's not just totem shaman that go thrashed. Any shaman that is not murloc just got 5 unusable class cards because of the stupid murloc archetype.

And before that, it had a bunch of unusable cards because of the totem archetype. Thats just how it works if they make archetype-specific class cards. Pretty much every class has a number of very niche, very specific cards right now. It's not that big of a deal nor an only Shaman thing.

I got legend with it tho
I'm not saying you can't win with it, but it isn't an overall high performing deck. But like with most decks, if you get the goods early on, it can snowball well.

You're right, I made a mistake there, flametongue is not core. I also forgot about totemcarver, that could be another thing to supplement the loss of other totem synergy.

Well, it kinda is. Mage for exemple, has way less cards that are completely unplayable apart from a very specific niche decks. For exemple, the whole secret package can be used in secret mage, but can also be used in control because it offers good draw/defense. While it isn't the only class who suffers from this, shaman has been a pretty good case study on having a lot of its cards locked for any but one specific deck.
I just went through them and after rotation 14 out 48 shaman cards will be somewhat locked to a specific archetype. Mage has 12 cards that are comparably specific.
I really don't think Shaman is an outlier or that it is that big of a deal.
I think pure totem shaman is dead, but a totem package might still work well in another shaman (Murloc?). Particularly since Amalgam is a Totem, Elemental, and Murloc. Not sure if Ey'sor will be worth including in a lesser totem package, though.

...and with it a useless legendary now.

Same goes for a LOT of Legendaries. There are infinitely more bad ones than there are good ones.
Anyways, it's only the first expansion of the new year. Let's not jump to conclusions about how bad it'll be indefinitely.

i really wish shaman would stop getting murloc / totem legendary cards.. it is too limited and i really dislike it
I wouldn't say it's down the toilet, but it will lose a few cards.
Splitting Axe, Totemic Surge, Totemic Might, EVIL Totem are out.
But you still have a new Flametongue Totem, Trick Totem, Totemic Reflection, Mana Tide Totem, Totem Goliath, Circus Amalgam and Grand Totem Eys'or.

You are forgetting Storm's Wrath which wasn't totem specific but it was staple

The archetype also gets Draenei Totemcarver .
I believe Flametongue isn't core, no?

Good riddance.
