Shaman is in the worst position it has probably ever been in the entire existence of the game.
The only competitive decks it has are awful. Galakrond Shaman just cant compete anymore. Evolve Shaman and Totem Shaman are completely reliant on drawing the perfect cards needed for set up and require perfect curves and fairy tale land board states.
The class has almost no reliable draw. It is so awful it has to resort to playing Novice Engineer in its decks.
Historically, Shaman has always had some type of aggressive face strategy or some type of control-ish deck, and it definitely does not have either identity right now in Standard. I don't even know what Shaman's identity is right now. The Prime is worthless and contributes little to nothing to the current Shaman decks. Overload/Vessina strategies have gone out the window since they lost all their best cards in the rotation. Control cant compete because almost every other control class has infinite value and just plain better cards.
What gives, Blizzard devs? What is this current Shaman supposed to be good at? I know there have always been weak classes during each meta but this has got to be one of the lowest points I've ever seen for an existing Hero in the entire history of the game.
That is the problem, don't have a chance vs broken stuff like OP DH cards, insane value generation from rogue, fast ramp in druid or insane boards priest and mage can put from nothing.

Yeah I was just thinking the same thing. It just does "fair" things in a meta full of broken things. It has no big power plays that other classes can achieve. Best case maybe four 8/8 rush minions from Galakrond, which are usually easily dealt with or Dragonqueen Alex if you want want to try a Highlander Shaman (sucks). Can't go face better than DH, Hunter, and Murloc Pally. Can't be control because Priest, Mage, and Warlock are all better at it. Can't be Highlander because Hunter, Mage, Rogue are all better at it. Can't generate infinite value at all in no way shape or form. It just has nothing that can give it an edge over other decks in the meta. In the next expansion, it definitely needs a way to generate infinite value or it needs more tools for an aggressive deck. Otherwise, the Year of the Phoenix is going to be a LONG year for Shaman players.
Watching GMs slug it out between Murloc Pally and Totem or Galakrond Evolve Shaman this weekend has been one of the least enjoyable Hearthstone Tournaments I’ve ever seen. It’s like watching arena. You can see why they’re at the bottom right now. The decks are so much weaker than the current meta kings it’s not even funny.
im not a fan of Shaman but I agree that it’s in a terrible position at the moment. Needs a huge boost in order to make it competitive. I almost feel sorry for Thrall. Shame man.
You can play muckmorpher and cheat out some stuff with kaelthas or cheat out a heal taunt one turn early. It's a bit of a meme though but when it works it's pretty good but too slow in the current meta vs aggro DH lists. Control shaman doesn't have enough card draw or enough healing to do well. Witch's brew doesn't give any tempo in a meta where DH and rogue get card draw and tempo at the same time. Its board clears also don't give tempo in a meta where DH and warrior gets tempo and board clear at the same time (and in the case of warrior healing through the form of armour too). It's especially bad in a meta where everything the DH has just goes face so you're dead on turn 5 when all the good shaman cards except maybe muckmorpher are not online yet.
As a shaman player right now, i just chill at rank 10 building random decks and trying them out, hoping to find something that works well....and never expecting to win. But it’s nice to not care about your rank, and just have fun with the game.
I understand your point of view, but maybe this reason I was driven to find winning Shaman last month and I found it. Went all the way to diamond 3 with Dragon Battlecry Shaman.
You just have to make the early came set with cards like Forked Lightning and Sky Gen'ral Kragg. And when you play double-battlecry with cards like Dragonqueen and Brightwing you will have insanely amount of value.
You can also clear the board with cards like Waste Warden and The Lurker Below. And double battlecry with Zephyrs is always good.

I was trying this very same deck out today. Dragon Highlander Shaman with Quest. It is literally what motivated me to make this post. The deck was fun and seemed like it could be competitive at first but...kept getting crushed by DH. Kept getting outvalued by Rogue and Priest who can go infinite value as opposed to your limited yet powerful value. My hsreplay stats say i went 2-7 with it. Limited data for sure but I can tell it's definitely not strong enough to legitimately climb the ladder with any consistency. Could you get Legend with Shaman? Sure. Will it take you 100 times longer than with a DH or Rogue...without a doubt.
Shaman's class identity is occasionally generate fun clips for Trolden with evolve or Bandersmosh highrolls.
Jokes aside, it was kind of expected for the class to be weaker this year because of how busted it was in the Doom of the Tomb event and at the start of Descent of Dragons. The same happened when Shaman was busted during the Karazhan/MsoG and then it was trash during the second half of the Year of the Mammoth (remeber Freeze Shaman?). So either there has to be some balance patches to bring the powerlevel of the top classes down a bit or the next expansion bring some additional tools to refine the current Shaman archetypes.
Way too much broken shit in this game right now- If you look at totem, evolve/galakrond shaman right now, it should be easily strong enough on paper -they would make the line-up in older metas easily.
The bottom line is the things Rogue, Demon Hunter and to lesser extent Priest are doing right now is just busted OP, while mage is also powerful while being a complete RNG clown-fiesta. We're only one expansion into the annual cycle as well, seems to me it's out of control.
The fact is, if everything isnt equal something has to be worst. And everything should not be equal, so something has to be worst. Right now its Shaman. With 10 classes it is not possible to have every class be viable. That is just how it is. Shaman will proberply get some love in the coming expansions, and be good again.
It misses hagatha. Even with that the control spells are pretty meh. It badly needs a spell which attacks and heals at same time. It needs PROACTIVE spells.

Its board wipes are trash. Lightning Storm leaves you down 2 mana the following turn where the Priest gets the same spell Breath of the Infinite with no Overload. Hagatha's Scheme is garbage if drawn late.

Shaman is fine, balanced and fair.

I took legend with control shaman last month. It performs quite good.

i don’t play shaman but i don’t think it’s that bad.
Shaman isnt bad, you're just bad with shaman.
Totem Shaman is one or two cards away from being great.
So is Pure or Libram Paladin.
But without the right tools they can't compete with the leading classes. At least not consistently.
Biggest problem is card draw. DH is nuts because it can draw and draw and draw. Rogue gets zero cost cards almost effortlessly.
I've been playing Zoo Warlock recently and even that deck can pull off nutty card draw.
Paladin and Shaman have garbage card draw.
The fact is, if everything isnt equal something has to be worst. And everything should not be equal, so something has to be worst. Right now its Shaman. Yeah but it needs to counter 2-3 classes atleast.
In hindsight unnerfed shaman in previous meta would have been competitive now.
