With the level of taunt we have its fairly easy to protect, or, as Heiro said, it will draw a card and force some removal on their part. Perhaps even removal they really don't want to be using -- if they let it go 2-3 turns its typically GG.
I might be playing it incorrectly, but after trying it this deck just seems incredibly weak in the current meta. You have no early game so you're just sitting around while your opponent throws out masses of low cost minions. If you don't luck into both of your Lightning Storms you're pretty much screwed,
its still good just got to change it to more anti aggro with pyro's / aboms etc. so far i like the twilight drakes i put in the deck, it always forces 2 removals somtimes 2 small removals and 1 creature trade to get him off the board :). i like defender of argus but they always tend to clear my board or take out the drake before i get to use him so i am thinking of tossing him out for 2 aboms.
I've been using this deck a lot lately and I'll agree with you on this. Although the early forked lightnings are the ones I really feel like I'm hurting if I don't draw. The main thing that has gotten me is if someone gets too many murlocks out and gets them buffed up too quickly. Generally though between 2 silence/ 2 forked / 2 lightning storms / 2 spirit wolves, I get enough to survive out the early game. I also find that it causes them to waste a lot of control cards on mana tides / flame tongues.
I'm only diamond 2 atm, so maybe this deck will start to falter later, but as of now I win 75% of games easily. I think if you get much higher than that on win rate, it will just get nerfed anyways.
Another thing I could see synergizing really well with this deck is Blood Mage Thalanos. 3 mana gives you a 3 damage forked lightning with a card draw. Seems pretty strong to me. Anyone else tried running that yet? I don't have him, but I've got the dust...just deciding....
As with any deck, it needs its meta, to shine. Shortly after the Wipe, tons of warriors appeared, because of immense Drawpower and a rather aggressive play of control. After a single card nerf, suddenly the wombo combo priests appeared, add in MC and lots were "surprised". The time of control came, and with it the cries for nerfing mages, plus the phase of "4 attack is great". ATM the meta is all around playing aggro or OTK, because those won the last "larger" tournaments. And both are rather good vs. Control.
The meta is always shifting, and sometimes a specific type of deck just sucks it. When the meta gets broken, another appears and so on.
Just be patient :)

I started this deck without the legendaries and even without the epics with great success. I have gone from plat 2 to diamond 3 running this deck exclusively.
I do have Ysera, who I used in place of one legendary.
In place of the other 3 I used:
Argent Commander x 1
Frost Elemental x 1
Reckless Rocketeer x 1
Those are just the 3 I used, I think you could substitue many other cards in place of them. Any of the good 4-5-6 mana cards should replace them nicely like Sunwalker, Lord of the Arena, etc...
Played this deck last night - only missing the 2 Earth Elementals. I won 8 and lost 3. I misplayed a few times in the early games as I got used to the deck.
My last match I played against a mage. Once Malygos hit the table, the next turn I was able to play Lava Burst for 10 damage and Lightning bolt for 8. game over. Tremendous deck.
Just remove all minions on their side throughout the game - this is a mid to late game deck. It's great!
Sorry guys for not responding in a long time, but I will address some things posted here first.
The Current Meta: it is an ever changing meta that is very unstable due the game being in it's early stages and there are no new card sets produced so far to increase the complexity of the game, until they produce new cards and finish the beta heavy balancing changes the meta will not be there (You can't say the current meta is aggressive decks because the last 2 winners of the tournaments that are being held nearly weekly are playing with aggressive decks).
Get the Rock weapons instead of the drakes for the current aggressive meta (though it's not considered meta but oh well), here how it works generally with these aggressive decks, they spend usually minimum of 2 cards per turn to swarm their field, it is worth it sometimes to take few hits in order for them to swarm some more and reduce the amount of cards in their hand and clear the board in 1 turn, usually they use 2-4 health monsters to do so and this number is very manageable, you have 2 options here:
1- let them gather up and kill them all at once (requires a combination of the following Lightning storm / Forked / Bolt / Bloodmage / Spell Totem).
2- Don't give them a chance to swarm up on you (use totems with flametounge / forked when there are 2 monsters / weapons / rock weapon / drop feral spirit)
some hints:
Keep the following in your hands (Lightning storm / Forked lightning / Feral spirit / bloodmage plus 1 damaging spell ) Mulligan the rest.
Dropping a turn 4 (coin) Earth Elemental is high risk high reward in these types of match up (don't do it against rogues) since your opponent will play super aggro he will have to waste A LOT of cards.
Always try to balance between maintaining the board presence while having more cards in your hands than your opponent.
Mana tide is very strong.

don't know what to put in for him, he's good i have him just have a tough spot for him in the deck.
I tried this and got steamrolled, curve is way too high to be competitive consistently

Is there a less expensive variant of this deck for those of us who can't craft the legendaries yet?
You don't really need the legendaries, they are just the cream on top.

What I have been doing so far:
I posted a deck on the first post named Star Master Competitive Control Deck v2.0 and here is the deck list
You can change the 2x Drakes for 2x Rock Weapons if you so desire ( More early game presence) or 1x Axe for 1x Defender (late game presence).
Artist: Foo18
So
- Unbound Elemental
- Malygos
- Defender of Argus
+ Stormforged axe
+ Ysera
+ Bloodmage
Is the addition of bloodmage and one axe enough to make it more competitive in the current state of play?
since this a more control flame tongue totem seems more for an aggro deck and seem it could be dead in control.
Flametongue totem is very much control, you can use totems to clear the board
Greetings Madskull,
I'd like to know if you still use the v2 version of this deck up to this day.
I've ben trying it out again latelly and im having a hard time against heavy aggro decks D:.
Any tips ? thank you !
Chris
P.S. If you still play the same deck, would you mind posting General starts for it? im not too sure if i play it correctly

But I love the azure drake! =(
I'm thinking more of dropping the mana tides as they often only draw one card anyway (which azure does also, as well as being 4/4 and giving SP)
