So I know this is brand new information, but a lot of people in the stream and in General Discussion (and on social media) seem to believe that battlecry shaman will be super powerful with the new expansion with C'Thun and Mistcaller.
While I would love Mistcaller to be a think, I don't think a new expansion is going to change the fact he is a 4/4 for 6 that doesn't impact anything directly on the board.
Do you guys have any thoughts on Battlecry shaman being a valid competitive deck (considering the standard format) going forward?
Is hard to tell, we need first to see the new early game minions and how the nerfs impact the classic set since the reason for midrange shaman to be out of the meta is that it cant wrestle effectively with paladin and hunter for tempo so instead you try to race them with tunnel trogg, feral spirits and totem golem. If the quality of 1 and 2 mana drops comes down in this expansion and the new ones work, if not better, at least equally in shaman than the other classes then we might see board control decks for thrall re surge.
As far as Mistcaller goes, it will be incredibly powerful if the game ever loses the whole focus on overpowered sticky minions and insta win battlecries.
Kel, do you have a rough decklist you currently use? I understand if you don't want to share, but I tried battlecry shaman and could never get it to go above rank 15. (To be honest, I've not been able to get any of my shaman decks above rank 15 for the last 2-3 seasons) so I've stopped playing shaman entirely and have been playing mainly priest, druid, and mage.
If the meta slows down at all I think Battlecry Shaman has the potential to be incredibly strong. I've been playing a Dragon battlecry Shaman to some success, and stomp all over warriors and priests because they just run out of hard removal for the number of big threats I can drop. Mistcaller is often the MVP, since it turns every minion in the deck into something that requires an answer if you can find the time to play it.Aggro is as tough as can be expected, and winning that matchup pretty much requires either drawing and winning the joust on Healing Wave or finding multiple healing waves through scarabs.
It makes me wonder what the past 6 months could have looked like if they gave Mistcaller a fair statline of 6/6 or even 5/5. Mysterious Challenger and Dr. Boom suffer no status penalty despite their powerful effects, while Mistcaller receives a major stat loss. Given the state of Shaman it makes you wonder what Blizzard was thinking.
Believe it or not, Battlecry Shaman is already viable. This deck wins at rank 5, check the write-up for full info.
While I definitely appreciate the vigor and energy you have and even providing a decklist. I think you and I have very different meanings of the word "viable". I should probably make myself clearer. Viable to me means "competitive" (i.e. Tier 1 or Tier 2 deck). Any deck can be piloted to rank 5 given enough time and skill since the ranking system is not a zero sum system. But I digress.
Thank you for the decklist I'll take some ideas from it! :)
@Kel Top 4? I'm not referring to the front page here dude. LOL Most people understand what I say when I mention "Tier 1, or Tier 2" decks. I suggest you familiarize yourself with Tempostorm's tier rankings.
@GDC. What was the point of your statement? To be combative or berative? Or were you just being snide to earn "style" on the forums from other passers-by for anyone unwitting enough to wander into this thread? Regardless, my point about the system of ranking being zero sum still stands. If you want to continue this tangent discussion please PM me in a civil manner and I will respond in an equally civil manner; otherwise stay on topic about battlecry shaman please.

I'd love to hear other shaman opinions!
With some innovation battlecry shaman is already viable =P For instance my bc shaman has 70% winrate at the moment.
Surprise!
