Basically I would like to hear your opinions on whether you think Spiteful Smith is too slow or not. (I don't have greesnskin so need to replace the 5 drop) My other choice is stranglethorn tiger, but other players have sworn by Smith in the deck so I went with it.
Also thinking of doing a bit more juggling. I can either get rid of both flappy birds, add a second Deathspeaker and a fan of knives (great tech when paired with Void Ripper and just for VS aggro decks in general with their 1 health minions that can snowball) or some other combo like this. I would like to know if you think flappy bird is still worth keeping in the deck really, as I have to make room for 1 fan of knives and I only have 1 fox in the deck (so can't remove the 2nd like people are doing) This is mainly because I see the value in deathspeaker for trading. I am Trying it out so it has to be in the deck.
I could Just remove 1 flappy bird of course, but then that would leave multiple 1 x minions and I hate that if it can be helped. The only time I am happy having 1 of a minion is if it's tech. If it's regular play stuff, and especially something I need, I like to have 2 of it.
I hope someone has some time to check this out anyway, as I'm new to playing Rogue and don't have much experience building rogue decks neither. I understand how to play the deck, what it does, why it does it and how to do those things etc.
Resource management, thinking multiple turns ahead etc are important for instance. The fact the deck is all about tempo plays and everything you play is supposed to be moving you forward, no stalling. this is why I'm feeling apprehensive about Smith. He doesn't activate his +2 weapon damage until he takes damage, and it can be played around if the player know what they are doing. I can't see any way to self damage it that would be worth it at all. SI7 dealing 2 to him would just be bad in most cases I imagine, so it would have to be traded in, or survive removal. (this actually works out great VS Even Shaman as the cards practically play around defile themselves, and hellfire won't kill it neither)
Anyway dudes, if you have any tips regarding the stuff I mentioned I'd love to hear it. The more knowledge the better. I'd love to be able to know Rogue like how I know warlock one day as I think I will end up choosing it as my second class to main.
I reckon rogue feels right, it feels a bit cheeky, a bit sneaky and that sort of thing. Much like how I love that warlocks mechanics mirror how a Warlock works in in warlock lore as well (balance etc. if you do something, it has a cost, all magick has a price etc) this is represented very well in how the class plays.. I think they nailed rogue as well (probably have with the other classes too, but I've not played as much of them to get to know them properly... with warlock and Rogue though they just felt right to me straight away)
Just go with a second Cobalt Scalebane or Deathspeaker.
You think it's certainly always going to be too slow. What about Stranglethorn Tiger?
Also I wanted to add a fan of knives, maybe I could just stick that in instead and then I don't have to juggle as much.
One last thing. Some people use tar creeper... good or bad in this deck, and what would you replace if it was a good choice? I thought that taunts would just be too slow in general, but have seen a quite a few people take them for tech vs aggro. maybe even just one of them as a tech card? I think fan of knives would be better though and maybe even taking 2 of them wouldn't be a bad thing. It not only is tech against aggro, but when paired with void ripper it hurts spreading plague as well.
This is basically all I need to know so if you got the goods on these answers I will be one happy dude. ha ha.
I'm literally in the middle of getting this mix right before I finish off the grind. Not got much to offer as far as voidripper/deathspeaker/plague scientist as I'm still working that out myself but definitely don't put fan of knives in it's just shit for odd rogue. It's only good against paladin and still doesn't guarantee that you win the matchup but is next to useless in other matchups. As for greenskin just put a second scalebane in.
Fan of knives is good against heal zoo and also pairs with void riper at taking out spreading plague as well. I think I may try it out just to see what's what.
For now though I put in an extra deathspeaker over another 5 drop. If I was going to put a 5 drop in it would probs be stranglethorn over another scalebane. I just like having those older, basic cards in my decks. I always used to try and build decks with a few black cards in there. as time went by this became more difficult though (I think because I started playing control more and they usually need a lot more epics than tempo and aggro decks)
What is your opinion on tar creepers for the deck?
And you mention plague scientist. I heard there is a way to deal with early mountain giants by using that with a 1 drop. is it best with the pirate with charge? I'm not sure how the combos with the scientist work, I've got them but not used them in my deck yet as just not sure what's going on with it. I think I'd like to try it out though as I loved using suborn gastropod as tech in my even lock (before my even lock become a semi meme that is, ha ha)
OtHiI’ve been messing with zalae’s list. Got to rank 9 so far. Newer player so that’s the highest I’ve been so far.
I replaced a void ripper with a flappy bird and got an argent squire back in. Saw a different list with the smith in it still need to try but I already have Greenskin from a pack a couple weeks back.
One of the big things to do playing this deck is to use your dagger to manage the board to keep your guys intact. Deathspeakers are great for this as well.
Honestly I don’t think Edwin is worth it. You do t want to dump your hand because the deck has no draw so comboing him out to make him big is bad as he will probably just get silenced or removed. Most of the time he will just be a 4/4 and this is really best when you are on coin and have him in your starting hand.
Other than that you need to learn the meta to play around board clears, spreading plague etc.

I thought about taking edwin out, but I only just crafted him so I want to use him. It's the main reason I have him in there. I'd rather a 2nd void ripper possibly if I had one.
he's not all that bad neither though and I feel having him there helps me learn how to play rogue a bit as it's another combo card. and even as a 4/4 it's still all right IMO.
what do you use over edwin, and do you ever take fan of knives or plague scientist or anything to help with aggro (also fan of knives + ripper works VS spreading plague also, so you can bait out a large one then ripper into knives)
This is how mine is looking at the minute anyway... it has some of the zalae list, but differs.
Fan of knives is terrible in this deck. Odd paladin is already a bad matchup and the card is a huge tempo loss vs everything else. Spiteful Smith just isn't a good card. You're better off running a second Scalebane. If you want to run Creepers, I would remove the Deathspeaker and the Blink Fox but it's all personal preference. The 3 drop changes shouldn't affect the performance of the deck that much in my opinion.

I'd rather keep the current 3 drops than add 2 taunts unless I feel they are needed, but just having 2 taunt cards in a deck that's supposed to be about tempo seems counter productive to me. I had the same feeling about spiteful, but thought I may have been missing something with the card (like a way to self activate it or something.. the guy who has it in his deck said it's "good against priest" but this was the only reason he gave why he thought it was a good card unfortunately).
Do you not think stranglethorn tiger is good for being able to stick though? it could be used pro actively to either deter the player from making certain plays, to help push lethal, get a buff from fungal mancer etc. I mean having a mid sized minion that nothing can attack till it moves seems great. Of course hard removal will still kill it, but in the times where that's not an option the card could be great in securing a two turn lethal IMO. I know 2 scalebanes are good as I used to use them a lot, but I had heard 2 is far too clunky in this deck.
I'm definitely inclined to at least try out one stranglethorn.
I don’t use fan or creeper. Odd pally is pretty much an insta lose unless you can coin out one drops and keep them coming.
You can beat the other Agro with your dagger and deathspeaker trades. And focus on getting two guys to stick on your fungal turn.
I haven’t taken Edwin out yet.
yeah ok I'm sold. no knives.
I'm still thinking about adding 1 stranglethorn tiger though. is sticky unless they have nether or something like that. good for 2 turn lethal's and buffing up for 3 turn lethal and stuff like that. Having a card that can sit there without being bothered for a few turns seems to me like it suits the play style very well.
Of course I don't have much experience using these tactics in hearthstone, so I don't know how well they will work until I test them out.

As I said in my original post, you can pretty much swap out whatever you feel like in the 3 slot. When I was facing a lot of paladins, I took out blink foxes for creepers. They kill recruits, force trades and usually stick around for fungals. They also have some synergy with void ripper.
You can try stranglehorn but I feel it's too slow. I'd rather run something like corridor creeper since it has synergy with this deck. It gets something on the board, when it's cheap it's a nice combo activator, works great with fungalmancer and can help push a bit more damage with void ripper.

corridor creeper. nice choice. I love to use that when possible. if it gets buffed it will be huge as well. Just one do you think?
also the tar creepers do sound nice. I really like that deathspeaker though and want to try and get some use from the cards before they rotate so I guess I'll just switch stuff out when it's needed.
I would run 2 and take out the spiteful smith and blink fox/deathspeaker. Personally, I never liked the blink foxes so I would cut it.
I currently just have 2 x deathspeaker and no fox in the list.
You saying go down to 1 death speaker and 2 x creeper?
thanks again btw.
EDIT: I have just the 1 speaker and 2 corridor creepers in the list now. I may add tar creepers too for further void ripper synergy. Will have to see what's what after I play some games.
I have recently cut it from my deck to try other things out, but some people are saying elsewhere that they are really good and I should have them.
They just seem a bit random to me, and while I do love the card and want to include them, space is tight.
I also decided to try out tar creepers in the deck as as having something that can soak up some trades while doing 2 turn plays might be decent. it can also become a nice bit of face damage or used to clear something if it gets flipped by the ripper (and if it's been zapped by the shroomer as well, it's a beast)
This is my current version anyway. I would have 2 Deathspeakers normally, but I'm testing the Tar Creepers so had to make room. (I think ideally I'd like 2 Speakers and 1 bink Fox possibly over the tar creepers, just not sure till I've tried everything though.
Wondering if any of you has tried different combos and what you think?
PS: what do you think about plague scientist for taking out el gigante?
When considering cards you need to ask yourself what your game plan is, and how does this card help to achieve that, and in a rogue deck, how does it synergise with other cards.
Odd Rogue is an aggro deck, it tries to win early game and runs out of steam late game. It also has the ability to play control against other aggro decks to get the win. When looking at match-ups ignore the decks you usually lose to. Focus on improving your chances in the close matchups without damaging the good match-ups.
Odd Paladin is a terrible match-up. I don't tech to try and win this one. I'm more concerned with Warlocks, Hunters, Rogues and Even Shaman.
When it comes to discussing cards there are only a few slots that vary between lists. The following is the core list:
This leaves 8 slots that are mostly your 3 slots and a couple of 5 slots.
Blink Fox - For me this is an auto include. One thing this deck is missing is card draw. This is a 3/3 for 3 with draw.
Deathspeaker - It can help you maintain board and remove an opposing threat, great tempo. Underwhelming if drawn late game. Great for helping maintain board in the close match-ups. If you run this card only run 1.
Edwin VanCleef - For me Edwin is anti-synergy with this deck. I don't have much draw so don't want to dump my hand to buff him up. Unless I have coin he's not being played until turn 4-6. On most occasions he's a 4/4 for 3. I don't think he belongs in this deck.
Plague Scientist - Can help eliminate a threat. Requires combo and a minion on board or Southsea Deckhand. On most occasions you lose the minion. It's too situational for me.
Tar Creeper - For me this card goes against what this deck wants to achieve. It's too slow. If you're playing taunts you haven't got the board, and you're probably losing anyway. The Black Knight is run in close match-up decks like Even Warlock. Can't afford the loss of tempo.
Vicious Fledgling - It's a threat that must be removed, but too often is, or taunts go up and you can't get it to hit face. There are other more consistant 3 drops that provide value.
Void Ripper - With so many taunts in the meta this provides a way of getting through them. It is situational but improves close match-ups.
Captain Greenskin - He's a 5/4 buffing weapon for +1/+1, saves you 2 mana next turn. Auto include for me.
Cobalt Scalebane - A threat that must be removed immediately or else you keep buffing other minions. Auto include. 1 or 2 depends on your other cards.
Spiteful Smith - I run one of these over a 2nd Scalebane and this is why I like the card. It's a 4/6 so hard to remove, If it sticks you can use to trade, damaged gives you +2 attack to your weapon.
I think if u are running void ripper tar creeper it a solid slot for three.. nice conversion from the ripper.. protects minions like flappy bird from other minions, acts a big body to buff with fungal and cold blood...
A lot of people remove void too quickly from there list in my opinion but it has synergy with so many other cards that i dont mind the lack of immediate pressure

Good luck!
thanks dude. I don't have greenskin to run him. I do have 2 void rippers now though as I bought a second. I was thinking of taking leeroy out tbh as he's not as good in this deck as in miracle or mill rogue.
so you run spiteful as well as greenskin, can I see the list please? I'm really starting to regret dusting that card. I could have dusted master oakheart instead as well as I never use him.
PS: I also don't have tar creeper in my current deck, but I run 2 rippers still as they are just so good. they can help out in way too many situations so if you have 2, run 2 that my moto. ha ha.

thanks dude. yeah I'm running 2 void rippers in my most current list. I had been running tar creepers as well, but there is just too much to include. I can't decide on them as they can really help at times, then most the time when I don't draw them I don't miss them really.
I just wish I had greenskin as it seems a pretty decent card for this archetype

omnistone, deck doctor, firebat
Smith is too slow.
Just go with a second Cobalt Scalebane or Deathspeaker.

thanks though.

also the tar creepers do sound nice.
Hey guys.. quick bump.
What do you all think of Blink Fox?
PPS: heres the deck.
2x Argent Squire, 2x Dire Mole, 2x Fire Fly, 2x Southsea Deckhand, 2x Cold Blood, 2x Deadly Poison, 2x Hench-Clan Thug, 2xSI:7 Agent, 2xFungalmancer, 1x Leeroy Jenkins, 2x Vilespine Slayer, 1x Baku the Mooneater
I run 2x Blink Fox, 1x Deathspeaker, 2x Void Ripper, 1x Captain Greenskin, 1x Cobalt Scalebane, 1x Spiteful Smith
Whatever you choose, be comfortable with your choices. Play what feels good.
Good luck!
I think if u are running void ripper tar creeper it a solid slot for three.. nice conversion from the ripper.. protects minions like flappy bird from other minions, acts a big body to buff with fungal and cold blood...
A lot of people remove void too quickly from there list in my opinion but it has synergy with so many other cards that i dont mind the lack of immediate pressure
thanks dude.
