Leeroy is great in a mage deck. It's basically like having another fireball in your hand, except it is possible it could stay in play if you use Leeroy and arcane explosion or blizzard or have a taunt to keep him safe the next turn.
I use him to fill up the board so I can Frost Nova, the opponent's stuck with frozen 1/1's instead of prepping the board with stronger drops and I can get Sea Giants out faster (since I don't have a second mountain giant).
I use him in Warlock and Rogue decks, both not so bad in most cases.
Yeah, it's efficient, definitely one of the more splashable legendaries we have. Most of the decks I play just don't utilize him much besides a finisher, after all, when you can clear the board, you're sitting at 6 mana at least and it'll take another card or ping. I can find a multitude of ways to -1 myself for 6 damage using two cards. At 4 mana? Probably not, but that's why I said more for late game.
If you play on NA, feel free to PM me. We could work out some kinks with deck and see if we can get it up to speed with you or vice versa. I'm not necessarily sure it's a deck to rank with, Rogue doesn't have as much card advantage to deal with sustain, so decks that prepare for Priest are going to be easily prepped for a Rogue deck that lacks in ways to close out a game.
@Poche: I played a more balls-to-the-wall style of deck, not unlike yours, I decided to sub in Sinister Strikes and they work pretty fun with Leeroy. I took it a step further and threw in Arcane Golems for kicks and it saved me quite a few times.
I made a bunch of changes and it still worked out in principle, all the Rogue decks have some semblance of same-ness because of the nature of the class, I just added more spell damage +1. I tried a version with direct damage, and another with Shadowstep, Arcane Golems and Leeroy. Both seemed to operate on the same principles and playing either felt no different besides screwing around with Leeroy.
Have you tried adding in Bladeflurry to deal with other common swarm issues? What's the issue you find in playing the deck?
It just seems i cant deal with larger creatures, i faced a lot of druid ramp and paladins last night and having to use way to many resources to handle larger creatures that came out early or were buffed to crazy sizes, im not completely blaming deck im sure ive made plenty of bad decisions as ive been playing it one night so far.
I've used your deck and the one played in the most recent Managrind. Feels that your deck is more of the traditional rogue assassination deck while Galleon is just minion based.
That's correct, I think that the inclusive of Defender of Argus, Shattered Sun Cleric, and Dark Iron Dwarf in Galleon's is indicative if his play style.
The main point of contention in my deck is probably going to be Headcrack, but I do have a mental list of swaps. I want to include Novice Engineers and Argent Commanders somehow, but Fan of Knives must stay because Warlock Aggro is going to return in full force. I'm convinced that Assassin's Blade isn't very good and when you're faced with strong taunts and direct damage, you're going to fall very quick - especially as a class with no sustain. Argent Commander will take the place of ABlade for now. This deck feels like it teeters on the edge of "control" and burn, I'm not particularly sure which way I want to take the deck - Sinister Strike, Cold Blood, and Leeroy instantly turn this deck into full aggression. On the other hand, adding a few more key minions such as Shattered Sun Cleric and Defender of Argus may turn the tables into a control deck.
There's many questions to ask: Do you feel like this deck is too split between control/burn? Is there a way to solidify the stance of the deck and that way create a stronger synergy? The main minions to focus on are Ogre Magi and Kobold Geomancer imo, while Ogre has good stats, does the mana cost justify his usage? While Kobold Geomancer is cheap, does his lackluster stats justify his usage?
Going to need to sit down and think this one over, because I know the style of deck I want to play, but I'm not sure how well the core gameplan is going to play out when shifting around key cards. I should really take my own advice, and start from the basics. The first question when building a deck is:
With Galleon's deck, it just seems like a basic deck that I can run with any other class. Rogue specifically are viewed as assassins but he doesn't really play many of the rogue-specific spells. I think your deck is more on point on how it should be played although I am going to look through it myself and see what I would personally change if there is anything to be changed.
I agree on the warlock making a come back, never really left but with the mage nerf we may see a lot more of them. I'm too lazy to look around and this is just an off topic question, what rank are you currently?
Hovering 13~10, spamming a Ramp Druid deck that I'm working on. so it's more an indicator of that deck. Hoping to get a good sample size before I release it.
It's true, Warlock never left, hehe.
Galleon's deck is something I'd use as a deck template for Rogue, incredibly solid for sure and so are other Rogue decks that feature high-end gameplay. Rogues benefit a lot off of consistency and cantrips because they're incredibly strong when you have something to combo with and keep momentum at the same time. A regular play for another class is to play Novice, then deal 4 damage with another 3~4 mana spell, Rogues can do it with 4 mana. If that's available in every situation you play, then you're going to run over bad hands.
pretty nice deck. I subbed in a leeroy, 2 sinister strikes and a cairne. Basically as long as you have guys out on the field with +spell damage and a few spells handy theres close to zero chance you will lose. The damage and control is extremely high when the cards are nice to you.
-1 Shiv / +1 Novice Engineer Better draw power w/ board presence, more combo starters. An early minion to trade with.
-2 Loot Hoarders / +2 Novice Engineer Better momentum late game in exchange for control early game, it might have the ability to grab you a card you need.
-2 Defias Ringleader / +2 Shattered Sun Clerics or +2 Argent Commander Defias is nothing but early game pressure, don't really trade any better than other cards - adding SSC will generate card advantage by trading Loots or Novice up.
I'm about to do the whole Novice + Loot Hoarder + Harvest Golem + SSC + Argus + Argent template everyone and their mother runs. For good reason, it's one of the best in the game, but I don't want a deck like that. I can make a template deck of it soon. Ogre/Kobold stays and I'm going to make him work.
Don't have the cards: -1 Assassin's Blade / +1 Perdition's Blade Much sadness
-1 Assassinate or -1 Shiv/ +1~2 Blade Flurry I don't have any Blade Flurries either. If I did, I'd make this into a more aggressive deck for sure, maybe throw in Leeroy.
Sidenote: Yes, I'm very stubborn about Headcrack. Wish it was still 2 mana. If it's still being stupid, I'll remove it. Never! Maybe
I'm slowly figuring this deck out, I caved and created two Blade Flurries, they're excellent as expected!
So, here's my thoughts on the deck after making these changes: -2 Fan of Knives / +2 Blade Flurry -1 Perdition's Blade / +1 Leeroy Jenkins -2 Loot Hoarders / +2 Novice Engineer -2 Shiv / +1 Defender of Argus, +1 Tinkmaster Overspark -2 Harvest Golem / +2 Argent Commander
The deck hovered around single digit ranks incredibly consistently, which is something I've had trouble in the past using a spell damage heavy Rogue deck. On a more interesting note, I won all of my games versus Warlocks, regular rush, control, murlocs. There's something about the Blade Flurry, extra 2 damages from SI7/Perditions and spell damage that makes this deck incredibly AoE heavy and counters any rush decently well. Some were close, some weren't, but what matters is I had a good control of the board until some big drop like Ironbark or Ancient of War came in.
It's far from perfect, and I loaded two more legendaries into it (to what I feel is slightly a cop-out) but it feels like a step in the right direction. I got have the problem down, now I just need an easier way to deal with huge drops that Druids put out.
According to our friends over at the MG analysis deck, Cantrip Rogue has been using Ragnaros more often than not:
You have in the deck, two Kobold, two Ogre Magi, two Azure Drake, one Thalnos. Try not to overplay your hand, Equality will wipe everything! You only need one or two Spell Damage minions out to be able to push around our opponent.
Blade Flurry with Perdition's Blade or with +1 Spell Damage will take care of Mirror Image after early game, so that's good.
Glad you enjoy the deck, but yeah, Paladin can be a problem often because of so much sustain.
The best way I've found to handle them it just straight up burst when you have the opening. Maybe bait them low into Lay on Hands or another heal. It's the sustain and Tirion/Sunwalker that's a problem more than anything else.
Leeroy + Faceless will often do the trick and catch them off guard. Tinkmaster + Faceless to hard counter Tirion, and if you get that 5/3 Ashbringer, game is usually over. That's why Faceless happens to be a strong pick if you put in the other legendaries.
I crafted Leeroy recently on a whim. Slightly regretting now, but maybe I just haven't found a deck I liked him in yet >_>
Well, what can I do. Hopefully there's a home for him somewhere, but it looks like only Rogues for the moment.
Next up at Cairne and Hogger, hopefully.
