Lore-wise, the Rogue class is about physically hiding, not hidden information, which is something anyone is technically capable of. Rogue's sneakiness and propensity for ambushes is embodied by Stealth.
Mechanically, secrets are just stuff that triggers on the opponent's turn. And let's face it, a lot of the time there's nothing surprising about them.
I'm not sure I agree with that. Rogues run the spy networks, and have an entire tree named Subtlety.
Subtlety is about physically hiding, i.e., stealth.
And while it's true that Rogues are involved in a lot of espionage missions (because they are good at physically hiding), they are not the only ones who do so. Literally anyone can be a spy. That is why you never know who the spies are. Everyone has secrets.
In fact, a dishonorable Rogue might be especially bad at keeping secrets if he thought that squealing would serve his own interests.

Lore wise it makes sense, but in terms of actual gameplay it might be tough. The reason is that Blizzard wants to make each class have secrets at their own unique mana cost, and a secret that costed more than 3 would be awful without insane synergy. Maybe 0 mana secrets would be cool, but then the second problem is that 0 mana rogue spells can be extremely problematic and they would have to print like 5 of them to make them actually secret. Maybe they should have done it from the beginning, but now it is never going to happen.
uhmm they could make rogue secrets uncollectible tokens and make them like a discover/adapt/choose one mechanic attached to various battecry minions.
so for example a 2 mana 2/2 Battlecry: Choose a rogue secret and put it in play, that way they could be bound to different mana costs because they would be battlecries from minions so a 2 mana and a 4 mana minion with the same ability would be possible, this would make rogue secrets, really secret,
Druids have secrets too. Fatespinner has got a build-in secret.
So the best could be, rogues get secrets by creatures like druids Fatespinner. I find the concept of Secrets by minions good. And rogue NEED secrets. But in this game, druid is gettin all, rogues nothing.
Gadgetzan Auctioneer is in the classic set, he's here to stay. They've also nerfed him, so I highly doubt that they will put him in the hall of fame.
Its one of the cards they're keeping an eye on since it limits design space for every class. Druids stopped playing it but only because of Ultimate Infestation which is insane on its own. Rotating Auctioneer means they can give Rogue better cards which is why there's a chance they'd do it eventually.

I'm referring to the fact that the spy networks in both Orgimmar and Stormwind are also the Rogue guilds. SI: 7 is basically the CIA.
Rogues are frequently referred to as masters of deceptions and have a number of dummy targets, shadow reflections, and disguise abilities, so yes. It's really hard to argue that any class would rely on secrets tactically more so than the Rogue.
They originally had secrets and then they gave them to paladin for class identity. They would have ended up with 1 mana secrets and considering how miracle rogues have been resistant up to today, it would have been busted
Exactly this. As I remember reading somewhere, there were supposed to be rogue secrets in the development, but then paladin had problem because of their lack of identity, so they gave secrets to paladin instead of rogue. I agree that secrets in rogue would make much more sense, but I don't mind as it is.

My argument was never that others are more suited than Rogues, just that Rogues don't have a corner on the market.
But that's all very much beside the point, as the word "secret" in Hearthstone is mechanical only, so it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks about it flavorwise.
If it makes you feel better, just replace the keyword "secret" with "countermove" in your head, and we can all get on with our lives, because no matter what you call them, Rogues are not going to get them.

Because some drunk dev thought it would be more appropriate to give them to the Noble, Righteous & Straightforward Paladins instead...
Still banging my head against the wall about that decision, especially once you realise 2 of those secrets have anti-synergy with the paladin hero power...
