Hey guys. The goal of Surviving Standard is to highlight an interesting deck and then play a few games on the ladder. Grinding standard can be frustrating so we will try to "survive" by having as much fun as possible.
There is no hurry to complete the quest like the decks of old. You will always begin games with the plan of bouncing Swashburglar for value. In the mid game you will be bouncing Plague Scientist and Vilespine Slayer to control threats. Eventually you will might complete the quest with these first 3 options or you will fall into enough Skeletons or Flame Elementals by using Shadowcaster and Vanish.
THE MULLIGAN
The most important card in the entire deck is actually Swashburglar as it is always going to be your initial bounce plan. Vilespine Slayer is a very strong keep if you are going second with The Coin.

I've faced couple of quest rogues close to rank 10 standard and I can say the deck seemed strong. They can still consistently complete quest by turn 5 or 6.
If it beats jade druid and murloc paladin (tech crabs helps) this could be a viable ladder choice.
See? This is the kind of deck the Rogue Quest should'vs spawned. A deck which requires a brain to play. +1 for sure man, good creativity
I agree. While the nerf was disheartening, it did kill the popular aggro quest style that limited what you could do with it. If you weren't running it, you just put yourself at a disadvantage in the mirror. I'm honestly glad to see someone experimenting with the quest still, so +1 from me, too.
I also was messing with a slower quest and went down the elemental path. Seems to be working for me pretty well. PS Valeera the Hollow is quite good with this deck as well. As she can double up some of your plays.
I think the Skeletons will ultimately get cut here. Bone Baron and Grim Necromancer are nice but slow and unreliable. They are win-more when you are ahead, and dead weight when you are behind.
Still, I do think there is some life left in Quest Rogue. Plague Scientist is amazing, and Valeera the Hollow gives you some clever ways to hit your 5th Copy -- as well as offering perfect inevitability with just a single Shadowcaster.

DECK DESCRIPTION
Much like Dragons from Below Rogue, this is a long-term The Caverns Below deck using the new tools from Knights which include: Plague Scientist, Bone Baron, Grim Necromancer, and Saronite Chain Gang.
DECK GOALS

TECH CHOICES
Old quest rogue decks could afford to run Hungry Crab or Golakka Crawlers. The nerf to The Caverns Below makes these tech choices unrealistic.
THINGS TO NOTE
The power in Plague Scientist is it's interaction with the pirate cards Patches the Pirate and Southsea Deckhand. These charge pirates are generally best saved for the scientist. Be careful with Shadowcaster and Saronite Chain Gang as it will copy a 1/1 minion. This can still be useful for quest completion however.

How does it fare againsteta decks, most notably Pirate Warrior and Druid?
Went 4 in 6 win-loss. So maybe with some practice I might get to a 50-50. Lots of fun to play Plague Scientist also :)
