Do you think that there might be a more value based, less all-in build for the card? For example, upon completion of the quest, Novice Engineer becomes a larger version of Queen Carnessa's raptors. Considering how rogue's minions are in general small, the additional value obtained via Crystal Core might be worth it, and the added resiliency may prevent it from insta-losing from a bad hand.
On the other hand, the requirements are quite steep without becoming anti-tempo, and rogue has never been much for honest minion trading. The 5/5 buff simply might be too slow and insignificant without going for one-mana SMOrcs.

It doesn't make sense to make it slower, past a certain point, mass 5/5's is actually manageable, and then you've lost all the strength of the deck.
