Since I couldn't find any topic about this, I decided to make one myself.
I'd like to know your opinions about new Rogue cards, individually, to have a better perception of what we got with this expansion. I'm not talking about nerfs, decks or combos, but new cards.
So let's start with order of rarity :
- Xaril, Poisoned Mind : the new legendary is really fun to me. A card that draws 2 random powerful low-cost spells is definitely a must-have in Rogue. But its poor stats makes me wondering if it's worth. I've seen myself always playing Tomb Pillager or Violet Teacher instead of this on turn 4. He's not a combo enabler either, but works well with Gadgetzan Auctioneer and Malygos. Still can't choose if he's worth the spot.
- Shadowcaster : my true crush of the expansion, I find this card hilariously fun to play, and with an awesome art. But I don't know if the tempo loss has not too much of an impact, and haven't won any game thanks to her.
- Blade of C'Thun : didn't drew him, didn't see him in games, so I have no idea. It has really poor stats and I don't believe C'Thun Rogue can be viable.
- Thistle Tea : ahah, this card is so bad. 6 mana for 3 of the same card is far too expensive and you get screwed more often than not.
- Undercity Huckster : I'm not really fan of this card, it almost never drew me anything useful, but it's the only playable Rogue 2 drop and the 1 HP makes the difference in comparison with Loot Hoarder. I'm playing it anyway because Blade Flurry is gone :(
- Journey Below : kinda disappointed on this one. I thought it would be great, like Museum Curator is, but in the end you don't have the body, and Rogue has really bad Deathrattle minions. Never got anything useful.
- Southsea Squidface : this card is terrible. The stats are bad an the effect is not worth it. Without Blade Flurry, weapons buffs got really weak, and you must have your 1/2 dagger up on turn 4 to have some value.
- Shadow Strike : I thought it would be good but in the end I'm disappointed. 3 mana to kill a 4 drop is not that interesting, Eviscerate does the job better. You can't even target face with Malygos. I don't like this card.
- Bladed Cultist : I don't see the point of a combo T1 minion. Really not. Blizz plz.
- I just want to add that it seems that no new neutral minion will be added to Rogue. In the end I feel this expansion really destroyed Rogue while it was already almost dead for half a year. We lost lots of important cards while not having any decent addition.
So this is my opinion about the new cards, with a few hours of playing them. Let me know what's yours, because there is definitely some things I didn't see.
(Edit) It is kind of impossible to discuss cards out of deck context, so I've included the deck I use here.
I don't play deathrattle/raptor list, so I've only tried Xaril, Poisoned Mind and Shadowcaster. Both perform extremely well and allow for such crazy combos that I often find myself roping while figuring them all out. Too much fun, miracle lives.
Shadow Strike is not for playing against turn 4 threat most of the times (well, unless something like Flamewreathed Faceless appears and you can trade some 2 attack minion against it), but really helps against almost any popular fatty nowadays (and if it is something like Emperor Thaurissan, then you don't even need help).
Bladed Cultist is in fact really cool, despite it's poor 1-drop stats. First of all, this can be comoed pretty easily in the early game where it belongs, so more often than not you simply have a 1 mana 2/3. The dream, of course, is The Coin/BackstabCard Name +2xBladed Cultist. But also helps a lot triggering your other combos, if you need those more than a +1/+1.
Blade of C'Thun is really slow, but in the end, as many decks are actually aiming to unleash their C'Thuns, can see play against those pretty easily, and can be a huge swing (like sacrificing a Rag or even C'Thun).
The other cards I either have'nt got them from my packs... or are'nt really working (Huckster is some decent board pressence, but I ended most of the times with cards like Light's Justice or Slam[/card, and Xaril always ive me the [card]Shadowstep toxin instead of something I would really need in that situation).
Journey Below is just the best card. Rogue doesn't have necessarily the best deathrattles, but there's one for every situation of the game.
Bladed Cultist is an Arena card, move right along constructed players.
Undercity Huckster is pretty good, a cheapish replacement for Thanos. Better than Undercity Valiant at least.
Shadow Strike is just a solid card, run at least 1 in every Rogue deck.
Squidward is another Arena card, plus he's pretty decent when he shows up for Journey Below.
Xaril is good. Don't think he's mandatory, but good.
Shadowcaster is just so fun to play, comboes with literally every minion you'd want to put into a Rogue deck.
Thistle Tea is an Arena card, once again move along, constructed players.
Blade of Chinchin is awesome. Slow, but when you need lategame removal, he's your guy. Plus, combine with Shadowcaster or Xaril's Shadowstep and now your opponent is too scared to play a big threat for the rest of the game.
