Yeah I have to agree with you about Confessor. As Hearthstone continues to expand its cards, it is inevitably going to be creating more low mana cost legendaries, like Eydis Darkbane and Fjola Lightbane, and the most recent one Sir Finley Mrrgleton. Confessor is slowly becoming worse, and although the RNG aspect of it is fun, I can't justify crafting her over the others.
I opened Confessor Paletress in a pack, so I have been using her in my Priest decks (both Control and Dragon) this season. I actually find her to be really good. In Hearthstone in general, random effects are on average stronger than consistent effects, so a deck built on random effects tends to work well in the long run.
Well, I guess I haven't been doing spectacularly with my Priest decks, only getting to Rank 6 so far over the course of more than 150 games, but there have been tons of memorable moments:
Lost against a Control Warrior, because Paletress gave me a Nat Pagle and I died to fatigue
Won a Control Priest mirror match as Ragnaros after Paletress gave me a Majordomo Executus and I used all my tricks to keep the board clear (Lightbomb, Auchenai + Circle, Pyro) and just bombarded the other Priest to death with my hero power
Several wins where the opponent has not been able to deal with Paletress and new legendaries keep pouring in to meet all the threats they can field
While all four legendaries are strong, and I guess Sylvanas Windrunner might be the strongest in the current meta, Paletress is the most fun I have ever had in Hearthstone. In a fast meta, there are also numerous instances where she is better than Ysera, because I often find myself in positions where I need to heal each turn.
Here are a couple of videos of matches where I used her, in case you're interested:
Thanks for your post! I consider her a luxury and not a staple in today's Priest decks, and I can't bring myself to craft her, but I'm always looking for fun decks that are not repetitive.
I was planning to craft Ysera, but Arch-Thief Rafaam feels like a good replacement now. What are your thoughts? (Don't say BGH please.)
But that's exactly why Rafaam isn't a great replacement for Ysera. You'd almost be better off with Chromaggus if you're looking for a budget replacement for Ysera. I think Rafaam will likely see *some* competitive play, but more of a replacement for decks that run value Nefarian instead of Ysera unless it's a sub for Ysera for budgetary reasons. Ysera is far more resilient than Rafaam and can potentially provide much more card advantage. With that being said, Rafaam's artifacts are pretty nuts. I'm going to try him in my CW (in place of the value Nefarian I added to help break parity in mirror).
I'm not looking for a budget replacement; my DP is the combo version with Dr. Boom. Before that I played the deck with Nefarian & Dr. 7, but at some point I gave up after too many losses in mirror matches. Chromaggus may be good with Ysera but not without her (The BGH Rule).
I also want to play Control Priest that has late game power, and I just recently got a Grommash for CW so I was waiting for my dust to accumulate to craft Ysera. But I feel like the new card is really strong, so I guess no need to hurry.
Sorry, but what is the combo version? Something with like Divine Spirit plus Inner Fire ? If that's the case Ysera is DEFINITELY better as a potential 24/24. Sorry, that's the only "combo" Priest I'm really aware of.
As for your last point, I think people tend to get the feeling that Ysera isn't "powerful" end game as she's low Attack and her effect is slow. But the thing is that's the kind of effect hard control decks do like. Something that is going to be hard to answer that will just eventually overwhelm the enemy essentially by itself. Rafaam might be able to do that but his effects are more all in than Ysera typically.
i voted for silvanas but i see great value in Vol'jin and i think Ysera can be swapped with another big dragon like chromaggus or even nefarian but i don't play priest so what the f do i know :P
Until we see his eventual nerf, it's Dr Boom for me. Ysera has always been a "win more" card, and there have been games where Sylv wouldn't be of any use to me. Dr Boom is value king, and always useful regardless of whether he hits turn 7 or later. I did run a Control Priest deck once that had both the Boomster and Kel'Thu in it. 2 Boombots a turn made that particular game feel VERY entertaining ;)
If we a strictly talking Control Priest focussed Legendaries, then yes Ysera.
Paletress is the most fun I have ever had in Hearthstone.

Thanks for the vids man, Ill check them out! Ive watched some Confessor in action, she does seem like a ton of fun! I don't think she's the strongest card, and I also think that she'll continually lose power as weak legendary minions are introduced, but at the end of the day, its about fun right?

I find her to be quite strong, actually. Granted, she's not totally consistent, but she can turn games around at a speed that Ysera cannot, and she is usable in situations where you need to heal all the time.
Just today, I got Anub'arak from her in a Priest mirror. You know how often we run silence in Priest nowadays.. Yeah, that was basically game over. With Ysera, I would probably have lost as I was somewhat behind and the opponent still had his Cabal + Shrinkmeister waiting for Ysera.
Anecdotal evidence, I know, I should gather some actual statistics. For what it's worth, I did not manage to lose any games because Paletress let me down today.
One of the competitors at the World Championships, sorry I cannot recall who, commented in an interview that his favorite card is Unstable Portal, because every time he draws it, he knows he can just win the game. Paletress is the same for Priest, although with an end game flavor instead of early tempo advantage.
Thanks I finally got round to watching your vids, looks really fun. You got multiple uses of her inspire too, which is the dream. Question though, are you afraid that as blizzard keeps introducing low cost legends like the new LOE legends and the lightbane darkbane sisters, that confessor will slowly lose value?

Of course that is a concern, same as with Piloted Shredder and other cards that create random cards. However, realistically, I'm not too worried about it. LOE, for example, adds 5 new legendaries that are generally pretty weak for Paletress as they are all Battlecry-focused, although one of them is a 7/8 body, but the existing pool of legendaries already includes 87 cards pre-LOE, so the effect is not huge by any means.
Now, if new expansions are added to the game every few months, sure, Paletress can become worse, but it's going to be a very long time until that happens - and if new legendaries do not have battlecry effects (which you do not get, and which take a toll on the stat budget), they may just as well make Paletress better.
So, if you're thinking about playing with Paletress, it might get worse in the next 6-12 months, sure, but is time span that long in any way relevant? Any card could become obsolete in that time.
I ended up crafting Confessor Paletress first, despite her being dead last in the polls. While I still think that Ysera is perhaps the strongest choice for control priest, and Sylvanas Windrunneris the most practical choice (since she's used in a variety of decks), I still went with Confessor first. Vol'jin wasn't a real contender since I've seen a lot less Handlock after the Patron nerf, and in that matchup, I can still rely on Lighbombs and SWD.
I ended up choosing Confessor for 2 reasons: She's a decent finisher, and most importantly, she seemed really fun. I was starting to find playing Hearthstone a little dull and it caused me to not play as much. Now I can't wait to play and see what wacky legendaries are gonna pop out. Already started to play more HS, and so far, I've pumped out a Malygos, Acidmaw, King Krush, and Nat Pagle. She is already providing a level of fun that the other 3 legendaries can't probably give.
Still have enough dust to craft another legendary, and I'll give it a good amount thought and reread all of your posts to help me decide which to craft. Thanks for all your input guys!

This one time, at band camp, I got Malygos from Paletress against a handlock who had just went all Jaraxxus on me. Oh, and I had a Holy Nova in my hand.. :)

[card]Sylvanas Windrunner[/card]
Even in a aggro meta, you can leave sylvannas in the deck but with Ysera is different.

The question wasn't versatility amongst other decks. It was a poll for a control priest and Ysera is the better option.
